A Product Life Cycle Ontology for Additive Manufacturing

    Get PDF
The manufacturing industry is evolving rapidly, becoming more complex, more interconnected, and more geographically distributed. Competitive pressure and diversity of consumer demand are driving manufacturing companies to rely more and more on improved knowledge management practices. As a result, multiple software systems are being created to support the integration of data across the product life cycle. Unfortunately, these systems manifest a low degree of interoperability, and this creates problems, for instance when different enterprises or different branches of an enterprise interact. Common ontologies (consensus-based controlled vocabularies) have proved themselves in various domains as a valuable tool for solving such problems. In this paper, we present a consensus-based Additive Manufacturing Ontology (AMO) and illustrate its application in promoting re-usability in the field of dentistry product manufacturing

DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATE WITH HOLE

AbstractĆ¢ā‚¬ā€ Fiber reinforced composites are finding increasing applications in the aerospace, marine, transportation, electrical, chemical, construction and consumer goods industries. In some of these applications the composites are subjected to dynamic loads. The composite structures may sometimes be provided with different types of holes for the purpose of assembling the components and units inside the structure, for passing the cables and control mechanisms, for inspection, maintenance and attachment to other units. The effects of the variations of behavior for different shape of holes by maintaining same length/height ratio and hole area ratio are studied. Scope of this paper is to find out the best location of the holes. The ANSYS software is used for analyzing the plates under different boundary conditions and different orientation of laminate. Eight-noded Shell99 is used throughout the analysis which is a linear element. Different boundary conditions are considered for CFFF-(clamped free free free) and conditions and length to height ratio considered are 50 and 200.The hole area ratio is maintained as constant throughout the analysis as 0.04.Two different layers of laminate is considered those are 4 no's and having six different orientations each. The influence of the thickness parameter is inherent at higher modes of vibration. In this report we study the dynamic behavior of various laminates with different holes

Endovascular Embolization by Transcatheter Delivery of Particles: Past, Present, and Future.

Minimally invasive techniques to occlude flow within blood vessels, initially pioneered in the 1970s with autologous materials and subsequently advanced with increasingly sophisticated engineered biomaterials, are routinely performed for a variety of medical conditions. Contemporary interventional radiologists have at their disposal a wide armamentarium of occlusive agents to treat a range of disease processes through a small incision in the skin. In this review, we provide a historical perspective on endovascular embolization tools, summarize the current state-of-the-art, and highlight burgeoning technologies that promise to advance the field in the near future

An Ontological Approach to Representing the Product Life Cycle

    Get PDF
The ability to access and share data is key to optimizing and streamlining any industrial production process. Unfortunately, the manufacturing industry is stymied by a lack of interoperability among the systems by which data are produced and managed, and this is true both within and across organizations. In this paper, we describe our work to address this problem through the creation of a suite of modular ontologies representing the product life cycle and its successive phases, from design to end of life. We call this suite the Product Life Cycle (PLC) Ontologies. The suite extends proximately from The Common Core Ontologies (CCO) used widely in defense and intelligence circles, and ultimately from the Basic Formal Ontology (BFO), which serves as top level ontology for the CCO and for some 300 further ontologies. The PLC Ontologies were developed together, but they have been factored to cover particular domains such as design, manufacturing processes, and tools. We argue that these ontologies, when used together with standard public domain alignment and browsing tools created within the context of the Semantic Web, may offer a low-cost approach to solving increasingly costly problems of data management in the manufacturing industry

Spatiotemporal Analysis of the Impacts of Climate Change on UAE Mangroves

    Get PDF
Mangroves are imperative to coastal systems, providing security against extreme weather events by acting as natural barriers. These halophytic plants play a crucial role in mitigating global warming and act as an invaluable resource for consumption. Despite proving to be resilient, mangroves exhibit sensitivity to climatic (e.g., Land Surface Temperature, Salinity, etc.) and man-made factors (e.g., Land Use/Land Cover Changes). Numerous past studies recording the relationship between mangrove growth & development with the aforesaid constituents, but those were mostly restricted to visual observation/pattern recognition and single type of regression analysis. Also, the evaluation of simultaneous exploration of multiple aspects influencing mangrove evolution was not prominent. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to focus on the impact of both salinity and land surface temperature on mangrove biomass by the joint-venture of remote sensing, geographic information system and several machine learning algorithms. The study considered appropriate mangrove site selections with pre-processing of the acquired satellite images. Also, mathematical computations were performed on the raster layers to determine the previously mentioned natural aspects. Finally, several types of regression analysis were conducted to delineate potential patterns, governing mangrove vegetation health by virtue of temperature and salinity. Mangroves’ relationship with temperature and salinity showed insignificant coefficient of determination. However, the generated response curves postulated that high mangrove biomass could be achieved for a specific temperature window (30-33ā—¦C) and vegetation health could deteriorate at increasing salinity. Overall, combined effects of surface temperature and salinity on mangrove vegetation were significantly more (i.e., Maximum coefficient of determination of 0.31) than individual component alone

    A Fully-Integrated Quad-Band GSM/GPRS CMOS Power Amplifier

    Get PDF
Concentric distributed active transformers (DAT) are used to implement a fully-integrated quad-band power amplifier (PA) in a standard 130 nm CMOS process. The DAT enables the power amplifier to integrate the input and output matching networks on the same silicon die. The PA integrates on-chip closed-loop power control and operates under supply voltages from 2.9 V to 5.5 V in a standard micro-lead-frame package. It shows no oscillations, degradation, or failures for over 2000 hours of operation with a supply of 6 V at 135Ā° under a VSWR of 15:1 at all phase angles and has also been tested for more than 2 million device-hours (with ongoing reliability monitoring) without a single failure under nominal operation conditions. It produces up to +35 dBm of RF power with power-added efficiency of 51%

Management of fracture calcaneum by reconstruction locking plate

    Get PDF
Background: There is a considerable amount of literature on calcaneal fractures and their treatment; however the best management approach has yet to be determined. The results of ORIF and conservative treatment have been described and compared in several studies. These studies show improved outcome after operative management. Methods: This is a study of 30 patients with ages ranged from 18 to 65 years with displaced intraarticular fractures of the calcaneus treated by open reduction and internal fixation. 4 patients had bilateral fractures. Out of 34 fractures in 30 patients, 22 fracture calcaneum were joint depression type and 12 fractures were tongue type. Results: In 17 cases normal Bohler angle (i. e. 200-400) was achieved. There were 3 cases of post operative delayed wound healing, 2 cases of superficial wound infection and 1 case of sural nerve complication in the form of loss of sensation on lateral aspect of foot. According to American Orthopaedic Foot And Ankle Society (AOFAS) score, 13.33% of the patients had excellent results, 63.33% had good results, 13.33% had fair result and 10% had poor results. Conclusions: Operative fixation of displaced intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus by reconstruction locking plate, restores the calcaneal height, allows early mobilization and weight-bearing, and maximizes the chances for good joint function
