Nonlinear studies on the effect of non-uniform heat generation/absorption on hydromagnetic flow of nanofluid over a vertical plate

    Get PDF
The analytical and numerical studies are performed to investigate the non-uniform heat generation/absorption effect on the boundary layer flow of an incompressible, electrically conducting nanofluid over a vertical plate in the presence of thermal radiation. The highly nonlinear governing equations along with the boundary conditions are converted into ordinary differential equations by appropriate similarity transformations. The transformed highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved both analytically and numerically using homotopy analysis method and fourth order Runge–Kutta method with shooting technique respectively, for the various values of physical parameters. The results show that the presence of both space and temperature dependent heat generation enhances the velocity and temperature profiles and reduces the solid volume fraction of nanofluid profile. Comparison between present analytical and numerical results is found to be good

Thermo-Hydraulic Performance of Pin-Fins in Wavy and Straight Configurations

    No full text
Pin-fins configurations have been investigated recently for different engineering applications and, in particular, for a cooling turbine. In the present study, we investigated the performance of three different pin-fins configurations: pin-fins forming a wavy mini-channel, pin-fins forming a straight mini-channel, and a mini-channel without pin-fins considering water as the working fluid. The full Navier–Stokes equations and the energy equation are solved numerically using the finite element technique. Different flow rates are studied, represented by the Reynolds number in the laminar flow regime. The thermo-hydraulic performance of the three configurations is determined by examining the Nusselt number, the pressure drop, and the performance evaluation criterion. Results revealed that pin-fins forming a wavy mini-channel exhibited the highest Nusselt number, the lowest pressure drop, and the highest performance evaluation criterion. This finding is valid for any Reynolds number under investigation

A study of unsteady MHD free convection flow through a porous vertical flat plate immersed in a porous medium in presence of magnetic field with radiation has been analyzed. Introducing a time dependent suction to the plate, a similarity procedure has been adopted by taking a time dependent similarity parameter. In this analysis we consider a Darcy-Forchhemier model and the corresponding momentum and energy equations have been solved numerically, for cooling and heating of the plate by employing Nachtsheim-Swigert iteration technique along with the sixth order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. Non-dimensional velocity and temperature profiles are then presented graphically for different values of the parameter entering into the problem. During the process of numerical computations the skin-friction coefficient (viscous drag) and the rate of heat transfer (Nusselt number), which are of physical interest, are sorted out and presented in the form of tables

Heat Transfer in a Porous Medium over a Stretching Surface 22 HEAT TRANSFER IN A POROUS MEDIUM OVER A STRETCHING SURFACE WITH INTERNAL HEAT GENERATION AND SUCTION OR INJECTION IN THE PRESENCE OF RADIATION

Abstract: Heat transfer in a porous medium over a stretching surface with internal heat generation and suction or injection has been analyzed numerically in the presence of radiation. In this analysis, the governing equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations and solved them numerically using Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique. The local similarity solutions for the flow and the heat transfer characteristics are presented graphically for various material parameters entering into the problem. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the local skin friction coefficient (viscous drag) and the Nusselt number (rate of heat transfer) are also displayed graphically

Pattern of Stroke among Adult (A-MMD) and Childhood Onset (C-MMD) Moyamoya Disease

Background: Though relatively rare, moyamoya disease (MMD) may have varied presentation in different age group. Different stroke types are major presentation of this enigmatic disease. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the stroke subtypes among adult (A-MMD) and childhood onset (C-MMD) patients with Moyamoya disease (MMD).
Methodology: This was a hospital based observational study, conducted in the department of Neurology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh in between July, 2007 to June, 2016. Sample size included 36 children and 14 adult patients of MMD presenting with either ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, within one month of the index event.
Result: Majority of participants were below 10 years of age with a mean age at onset of 16.56(±10.6) years. There was a female predominance. Patients younger than 20 years, presented mostly with ischemic stroke (32 versus 4 patients); whereas those above 20 years of age presented mostly with hemorrhagic stroke (6 versus 8 patients). The difference was statistically significant (p value = 0.006). Large artery infarct (15) and hemodynamic infarct (17) were common among patients in children; whereas intracerebral hemorrhage (dICH, lICH, IVH among 3, 4 and 1 patients respectively) was frequent (8) among the adult (p value = 0.006).
Conclusion: While different pattern of ischemic stroke is common among children with MMD, the adults present mostly with hemorrhagic stroke subtypes.
