Bangladesh Apparels Export to the US Market - An Examination of Her Competitiveness vis-à-vis China
The rise of China has major repercussions for a country such as Bangladesh which has emerged as an important player in the global apparels market. True, the global pie in apparels trade is expected to expand considerably in view of the increase in demand, and also on account of the envisaged closure of large number of apparels/textile unit in the developed countries (mostly lower-end apparels/textile segment which were likely to become a sunset sector) and there will be space for more than one player. Evidently, impact and implications of competition from China will have to be examined and scrutinized at country level and for disaggregated items of apparels (since the impact for particular countries will be felt only at the disaggregated product level). It needs to be mentioned here that an earlier paper by the CPD has looked into the possible implications of Chinas rise in the context of the EU market. This particular paper will try to analyse the aforesaid issues as they relate to the US market.Bangladesh, Apparels Exports, Competetiveness, China, US market
Bangladesh Apparels Export to the US Market: An Examination of Her Competitiveness vis-à-vis China
The paper tries to focus whether China's ascendancy will have any tangible impact on Bangladesh's export oriented RMG sector and identifies some of the apparel categories in which both the countries have common interests in the US market by analyzing the RCA index and recent performance of both the countries in view of the recent US-China MoU. The paper tries to assess the impact of China's accession to the WTO on Bangladesh's export oriented apparels sector by undertaking an indepth examination of the relative competitiveness correlates of Bangladesh and China in the US market and study their implications for Bangladesh's apparels export to the US market. Towards this, the study investigates the export performance of Bangladesh and China in the US market and price dynamics, and identifies the sources of strengths and weaknesses of Bangladesh vis-à-vis China.Apparels, Export, US market, China, Bangladesh
Technologya nd Protocolsf or Translational Researchin ElectricalS timulation
Noninvasive electrical stimulation techniques like transcranial direct currents stimulation (tDCS) have been demonstrated to modulate neural function. Weak constant current is applied via scalp electrodes leading to subthreshold changes in neuron membrane potentials. Neuromodulation of the cortex using direct current (DC) stimulation may be a viable treatment for neurological disorders, enhancing cognitive function as well as facilitating neural plasticity. Theoretically, tDCS can employ many electrodes montages to emphasize directionality, focality, or intensity (Datta 2008, 2009, Dmochowski 2011) but what remains unclear is how these parameters influence cortical neurons considering their orientation and the local synaptic circuit in the region of interest. The aim of this thesis is to establish the framework for further investigation in modulating synaptic potentiation using direct current in the context of clinically relevant techniques, like tDCS. Mechanistic studies of electric field effects on neuronal ensembles first require electrophysiological characterization of a target brain region, such as the primary motor cortex that is involved in motor rehabilitation. Furthermore, when considering synaptic effects, it is important to consider local and regional synaptic circuits. Using experimental techniques this thesis establishes the parameter space for studying DC field effects on synaptic plasticity in the rat primary motor cortex
Corporate Governance and Its Benefits: Does It Really Matter for Banks?
Corporate governance is one of the force that keeps all the pillars of a corporation and in turn, collectively that of the economy, in their places. Now, six years later, there is no doubt that if this elementary force is not made a subject of extensive research and practice, the world as a whole will inevitably succumb to the drastically changing environment of the 21st century, globalized and industrialized world and the threats it poses. We begin this paper by explaining why governance of banks differs from governance of nonfinancial firms and its importance in banking industry. We then look at some areas of governance: corporate governance principles, parties, boards, risk management, and market discipline. We discuss promising solutions and areas where further research is needed. Keywords: Corporate governance, banks, financial institutions, organizational development and benefits
Document Layout Analysis on BaDLAD Dataset: A Comprehensive MViTv2 Based Approach
In the rapidly evolving digital era, the analysis of document layouts plays a
pivotal role in automated information extraction and interpretation. In our
work, we have trained MViTv2 transformer model architecture with cascaded mask
R-CNN on BaDLAD dataset to extract text box, paragraphs, images and tables from
a document. After training on 20365 document images for 36 epochs in a 3 phase
cycle, we achieved a training loss of 0.2125 and a mask loss of 0.19. Our work
extends beyond training, delving into the exploration of potential enhancement
avenues. We investigate the impact of rotation and flip augmentation, the
effectiveness of slicing input images pre-inference, the implications of
varying the resolution of the transformer backbone, and the potential of
employing a dual-pass inference to uncover missed text-boxes. Through these
explorations, we observe a spectrum of outcomes, where some modifications
result in tangible performance improvements, while others offer unique insights
for future endeavors
Agendas for future Training Transfer Research: Pakistan’s Perspective
This work was financed by Regina Public Interest Research Group and the Faculty of Graduate Study and Research of the University of Regina, Canada. Abstract Research on training transfer has been mostly conducted in developed countries. This paper is unique because it attempts to research training transfer from a developing country’s perspective. This paper is about the origins, evolution, current state and trends in training transfer research and practice in Pakistani organizations. The paper begins with a discussion on education and training. It discusses the evolution of education and training in Pakistan and explains the four systems of education in Pakistan at the primary, high school, and college levels. Then, this paper explores the origins of training in Pakistan. While exploring the origins of training in Pakistan, this section gives a detailed account on the training and consulting industry of Pakistan. The paper concludes with suggestions for further research that would contribute in the fields of training transfer and human resource development. Keywords: Training transfer, human resource development, education, Pakistan, management.DOI: 10.7176/DCS/9-4-06Publication date: April 30th 201
Impact of Television Advertisements on buying pattern of Women in Dhaka City
Television advertising plays an important role on changing the consumer behavior and also provides new patterns for purchasing or using any type of goods and services. It is the most convenient way to reach the female consumers because they are more deployed by advertisement promises that the product will give them something special for satisfaction. The paper aims to assess the impact of television advertisement on purchasing decision of women for acquiring goods and services. This study is based on a survey of 460 randomly selected women from three places i.e. Dhanmondi R.A., Jhigatola, and Circular Road of Dhanmondi area in Dhaka City. The results reveal that advertisements play a vigorous role in familiarizing a new product in the family list and taking right decision during shopping. 74.3% of the respondents after watching TV advertisement want to buy the new brand introduced in the market and 66.3% are of the opinion that T.V. advertisements help them to make better choice during shopping
