A Millimeter-wave Galactic Plane Survey with the BICEP Polarimeter
In order to study inflationary cosmology and the Milky Way Galaxy's composition and magnetic field structure, Stokes I, Q, and U maps of the Galactic plane covering the Galactic longitude range 260° < ℓ < 340° in three atmospheric transmission windows centered on 100, 150, and 220 GHz are presented. The maps sample an optical depth 1 ≾ AV ≾ 30, and are consistent with previous characterizations of the Galactic millimeter-wave frequency spectrum and the large-scale magnetic field structure permeating the interstellar medium. The polarization angles in all three bands are generally perpendicular to those measured by starlight polarimetry as expected and show changes in the structure of the Galactic magnetic field on the scale of 60°. The frequency spectrum of degree-scale Galactic emission is plotted between 23 and 220 GHz (including WMAP data) and is fit to a two-component (synchrotron and dust) model showing that the higher frequency BICEP data are necessary to tightly constrain the amplitude and spectral index of Galactic dust. Polarized emission is detected over the entire region within two degrees of the Galactic plane, indicating the large-scale magnetic field is oriented parallel to the plane of the Galaxy. A trend of decreasing polarization fraction with increasing total intensity is observed, ruling out the simplest model of a constant Galactic magnetic field orientation along the line of sight in the Galactic plane. A generally increasing trend of polarization fraction with electromagnetic frequency is found, varying from 0.5%-1.5% at frequencies below 50 GHz to 2.5%-3.5% above 90 GHz. Complete next-to-leading order calculation for pion production in nucleon-nucleon collisions at threshold
Based on a counting scheme that explicitly takes into account the large
momentum sqrt(M m_pi) characteristic for pion production in nucleon-nucleon
collisions we calculate all diagrams for the reaction NN --> NN pi at threshold
up to next-to-leading order. At this order there are no free parameters and the
size of the next-to-leading order contributions is in line with the expectation
from power counting. The sum of loop corrections at that order vanishes for the
process pp --> pp pi^0 at threshold. The total contribution at next-to-leading
order from loop diagrams that include the delta degree of freedom vanishes at
threshold in both reaction channels pp --> pp pi^0, pn pi^+.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
Gravitational collapse of Type II fluid in higher dimensional space-times
We find the general solution of the Einstein equation for spherically
symmetric collapse of Type II fluid (null strange quark fluid) in higher
dimensions. It turns out that the nakedness and curvature strength of the shell
focusing singularities carry over to higher dimensions. However, there is
shrinkage of the initial data space for a naked singularity of the Vaidya

Immunological Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome and Thrombotic Microangiopathy: Severe Complications in a Child With Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
Some patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection deteriorate shortly after starting highly
active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), the so-called immunological reconstitution inflammatory syndrome
(IRIS).1 Although having a spontaneous resolution in many instances, it can be fatal.1 Worse prognosis is seen
in younger children, severe immunosuppression and central nervous system IRIS, or infections with specific
agents, namely, Criptococcus.2 Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) has also been described in
children with HIV infection, in the context of an immunological system dysregulation.3 Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) became rare with the introduction of HAART, being mostly associated with advanced disease.4 HIV-associated TMA has specific clinical aspects as well as a worse prognosis than idiopathic or congenital TMA.4-9 The authors present the case of a 10-month-old boy with advanced HIV infection who developed IRIS complicated with HLH and TMA during the course of his treatment.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Molecular characterization and genetic diversity of potato cultivars using SSR and RAPD markers.
This study aimed to evaluate the genetic diversity and identify potato cultivars by RAPD and SSR markers. The genomic DNA of 16 potato cultivars was amplified with 25 RAPD primers that generated 92 polymorphic bands and 20 SSR primer pairs that produced 136 polymorphic bands. The dendrograms generated by cluster analysis distinguished the cultivars genetically although the dendrograms were not correlated in the comparison of the two markers used. The PIC values demonstrated the high information content of the primers used and 16 potato varieties were identified based on six RAPD primers and three SSR primer pairs. Thus, by means of RAPD and SSR markers the genetic diversity was assessed and the 16 commercial potato cultivars analyzed in this study were identified
Stable Gravastars of Anisotropic Dark Energy
Dynamical models of prototype gravastars made of phantom energy are
constructed, in which an infinitely thin spherical shell of a perfect fluid
with the equation of state divides the whole spacetime
into two regions, the internal region filled with a dark energy (or phantom)
fluid, and the external Schwarzschild region. It is found that in some cases
the models represent the "bounded excursion" stable gravastars, where the thin
shell is oscillating between two finite radii, while in other cases they
collapse until the formation of black holes or normal stars. In the phase
space, the region for the "bounded excursion" gravastars is very small in
comparison to that of black holes, but not empty, as found in our previous
papers. Therefore, although the existence of gravastars can not be completely
excluded from current analysis, the opposite is not possible either, that is,
