The e-learning cycle and continuous improvement for e-entrepreneurs
The purpose of this paper is to explore the integration of learning, continuous improvement and innovation theories as a basis for enhancing the education of e-entrepreneurs. Conceptual development of emerging interdisciplinary literature is combined with example analysis to develop the Circle of E-learning uniquely augmented by hermeneutics, action research and the creative destruction cycle of innovation using applied examples of e-entrepreneurship. Four R’s are discussed in the Circle of E-learning; Review, Revise, Reconstruct, and Reveal. Observations for each of the 4R’s are made regarding continuous improvement of the education of e-entrepreneurs. Findings are that the procedural pivot points indicated by the 4R’s can be helpful for administrators and educators to improve operations and outcomes in management and professional development situations.<br /
Quantitative assessment of serum Beta-2 Microglobulin in liver transplant recipients and relationship to liver graft rejection
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the usefulness of serum beta 2-microglobulin determination in the diagnosis of acute liver allograft rejection.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Liver transplant unit.
PATIENTS: Twenty consecutive patients who underwent liver transplantation because of a non-virus-related end-stage liver disease.
METHODS: Serum samples were collected before the transplant, at days 7, 30 and 90 and whenever a clinical complication developed after liver transplantation. beta 2-Microglobulin was quantified using a new quantitative automated microparticle enzyme immunoassay.
RESULTS: Serum beta 2-microglobulin levels increased significantly (P < 0.05) during rejection episodes and correlated with the degree of hepatocyte injury as assessed using serum aspartate aminotransferase levels. Increased beta 2-microglobulin levels were also found in surgical or infectious post-transplant complications. A significant difference in beta 2-microglobulin values was recorded between patients with rejection and only those with bacterial sepsis.
CONCLUSION: Although highly sensitive in recognizing damage to the graft, determination of beta 2-microglobulin was not sufficiently specific to differentiate between rejection and other post-transplantation complications
The e-interview in qualitative research
In this chapter the authors consider using email as a method for carrying out in-depth, qualitative research interviews. Prompted by an experience of conducting e-interviews, they set out some of their key characteristics, embedding their discussion in the methodological and conceptual literature on qualitative interview and on-line research. The authors then offer a methodological consideration of e-interviewing, focusing on three broad areas: the practical, the interpersonal, and the ethical, highlighting the ways in which e-interviewing transforms aspects of each. They end by offering a view of the future of e-interviewing in the broader landscape of on-line qualitative research methods in general and interviewing in particular
