Free electron lasers with short Rayleigh length
To decrease power loading on cavity mirrors, a GauBsian mode with a very short Rayleigh length could be employed.
We study the physics of the FEL interaction while shortening the Rayleigh length in the FEL oscillator. The results can

Scattering amplitudes at finite temperature
We present a simple set of rules for obtaining the imaginary part of a self
energy diagram at finite temperature in terms of diagrams that correspond to

Electroproduction of the d* dibaryon
The unpolarized cross section for the electroproduction of the isoscalar
di-delta dibaryon is calculated for deuteron target using a
simple picture of elastic electron-baryon scattering from the and the components of the deuteron. The calculated
differential cross section at the electron lab energy of 1 GeV has the value of
about 0.24 (0.05) nb/sr at the lab angle of 10 (30) for the
Bonn B potential when the dibaryon mass is taken to be 2.1 GeV. The cross
section decreases rapidly with increasing dibaryon mass. A large calculated
width of 40 MeV for combined with a small
experimental upper bound of 0.08 MeV for the decay width appears to have
excluded any low-mass model containing a significant admixture of the

Change in well-being amongst participants in a four-month pedometer-based workplace health program
Background: There is increasing uptake of workplace physical activity programs to prevent chronic disease. While they are frequently evaluated for improvement in biomedical risk factors there has been little evaluation of additional benefits for psychosocial health. We aimed to evaluate whether participation in a four-month, team-based, pedometer-based workplace health program known to improve biomedical risk factors is associated with an improvement in well-being, immediately after the program and eight-months after program completion.Methods. At baseline (2008), 762 adults (aged 40 Âą 10 SD years, 42% male) employed in primarily sedentary occupations and voluntarily enrolled in a physical activity program were recruited from ten Australian worksites. Data was collected at baseline, at the completion of the four-month program and eight-months after program completion. The outcome was the WHO-Five Well-being Index (WHO-5), a self-administered five-item scale that can be dichotomised as 'poor' (less than 52%) or 'positive' (more than or equal to 52%) well-being.Results: At baseline, 75% of participants had positive well-being (mean: 60 Âą 19 SD WHO-5 units). On average, well-being improved immediately after the health program (+3.5 units, p < 0.001) and was sustained eight-months later (+3.4 units from baseline, p < 0.001). In the 25% with poor well-being at baseline, 49.5% moved into the positive well-being category immediately after program completion, sustained eight-months later (p < 0.001).Conclusions: Clinically relevant immediate and sustained improvements in well-being were observed after participation in the health program. These results suggest that participation in workplace programs, such as the one evaluated here, also has the potential to improve well-being
B_c Meson Production in Nuclear Collisions at RHIC
We study quantitatively the formation and evolution of B_c bound states in a
space-time domain of deconfined quarks and gluons (quark-gluon plasma, QGP). At
the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) one expects for the first time that
typical central collisions will result in multiple pairs of heavy (in this case
charmed) quarks. This provides a new mechanism for the formation of heavy
quarkonia which depends on the properties of the deconfined region. We find
typical enhancements of about 500 fold for the B_c production yields over
expectations from the elementary coherent hadronic B_c-meson production
scenario. The final population of bound states may serve as a probe of the

Progress in the determination of the cross section
Improving previous calculations, we compute the cross section using QCD sum rules. Our sum rules for the , , and hadronic
matrix elements are constructed by using vaccum-pion correlation functions, and
we work up to twist-4 in the soft-pion limit. Our results suggest that, using
meson exchange models is perfectly acceptable, provided that they include form
factors and that they respect chiral symmetry. After doing a thermal average we

Sexual and social stimuli elicit rapid and contrasting genomic responses
Sensory physiology has been shown to influence female mate choice, yet little is known about the mechanisms within the brain that regulate this critical behaviour. Here we examine preference behaviour of 58 female swordtails, Xiphophorus nigrensis, in four different social environments (attractive and unattractive males, females only, non-attractive males only and asocial conditions) followed by neural gene expression profiling. We used a brain-specific cDNA microarray to identify patterns of genomic response and candidate genes, followed by quantitative PCR (qPCR) examination of gene expression with variation in behaviour. Our microarray results revealed patterns of genomic response differing more between classes of social stimuli than between presence versus absence of stimuli. We identified suites of genes showing diametrically opposed patterns of expression: genes that are turned âonâ while females interact with attractive males are turned âoffâ when interacting with other females, and vice versa. Our qPCR results identified significant predictive relationships between five candidate genes and specific mate choice behaviours (preference and receptivity) across females exposed to males, with no significant patterns identified in female or asocial conditions or with overall locomotor activity. The identification of stimulus- and behaviour-specific responses opens an exciting window into the molecular pathways associated with social behaviour and mechanisms that underlie sexual selection
