Hawking radiation of Dirac particles via tunneling from Kerr black hole
We investigated Dirac Particles' Hawking radiation from event horizon of Kerr
black hole in terms of the tunneling formalism. Applying WKB approximation to
the general covariant Dirac equation in Kerr spacetime background, we obtain
the tunneling probability for fermions and Hawking temperature of Kerr black
hole. The result obtained by taking the fermion tunneling into account is
consistent with the previous literatures.Comment: 7 pages, no figures, to appear in CQ
Quantum Mechanical Search and Harmonic Perturbation
Perturbation theory in quantum mechanics studies how quantum systems interact
with their environmental perturbations. Harmonic perturbation is a rare special
case of time-dependent perturbations in which exact analysis exists. Some
important technology advances, such as masers, lasers, nuclear magnetic
resonance, etc., originated from it. Here we add quantum computation to this
list with a theoretical demonstration. Based on harmonic perturbation, a
quantum mechanical algorithm is devised to search the ground state of a given
Hamiltonian. The intrinsic complexity of the algorithm is continuous and
parametric in both time T and energy E. More precisely, the probability of
locating a search target of a Hamiltonian in N-dimensional vector space is
shown to be 1/(1+ c N E^{-2} T^{-2}) for some constant c. This result is
optimal. As harmonic perturbation provides a different computation mechanism,
the algorithm may suggest new directions in realizing quantum computers.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, revtex
Statistical significance of rich-club phenomena in complex networks
We propose that the rich-club phenomena in complex networks should be defined
in the spirit of bootstrapping, in which a null model is adopted to assess the
statistical significance of the rich-club detected. Our method can be served as
a definition of rich-club phenomenon and is applied to analyzing three real
networks and three model networks. The results improve significantly compared
with previously reported results. We report a dilemma with an exceptional
example, showing that there does not exist an omnipotent definition for the
rich-club phenomenon.Comment: 3 Revtex pages + 5 figure

In vivo clonal expansion and phenotypes of hypocretin-specific CD4(+) T cells in narcolepsy patients and controls
Individuals with narcolepsy suffer from abnormal sleep patterns due to loss of neurons that uniquely supply hypocretin (HCRT). Previous studies found associations of narcolepsy with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DQ6 allele and T-cell receptor alpha (TRA) J24 gene segment and also suggested that in vitro-stimulated T cells can target HCRT. Here, we present evidence of in vivo expansion of DQ6-HCRT tetramer(+)/TRAJ24(+)/CD4(+) T cells in DQ6(+) individuals with and without narcolepsy. We identify related TRAJ24(+) TCRalphabeta clonotypes encoded by identical alpha/beta gene regions from two patients and two controls. TRAJ24-G allele(+) clonotypes only expand in the two patients, whereas a TRAJ24-C allele(+) clonotype expands in a control. A representative tetramer(+)/G-allele(+) TCR shows signaling reactivity to the epitope HCRT87-97. Clonally expanded G-allele(+) T cells exhibit an unconventional effector phenotype. Our analysis of in vivo expansion of HCRT-reactive TRAJ24(+) cells opens an avenue for further investigation of the autoimmune contribution to narcolepsy development
Back reaction, covariant anomaly and effective action
In the presence of back reaction, we first produce the one-loop corrections
for the event horizon and Hawking temperature of the Reissner-Nordstr\"om black
hole. Then, based on the covariant anomaly cancelation method and the effective
action technique, the modified expressions for the fluxes of gauge current and
energy momentum tensor, due to the effect of back reaction, are obtained. The
results are consistent with the Hawking fluxes of a (1+1)-dimensional blackbody
at the temperature with quantum corrections, thus confirming the robustness of
the covariant anomaly cancelation method and the effective action technique for
black holes with back reaction.Comment: 17 page
Posttranscriptional regulation of PARG mRNA by HuR facilitates DNA repair and resistance to PARP inhibitors
The majority of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDAC) rely on the mRNA stability factor HuR (ELAV-L1) to drive cancer growth and progression. Here, we show that CRISPR-Cas9–mediated silencing of the HuR locus increases the relative sensitivity of PDAC cells to PARP inhibitors (PARPi). PDAC cells treated with PARPi stimulated translocation of HuR from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, specifically promoting stabilization of a new target, poly (ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase (PARG) mRNA, by binding a unique sequence embedded in its 30 untranslated region. HuR-dependent upregulation of PARG expression facilitated DNA repair via hydrolysis of polyADP-ribose on related repair proteins. Accordingly, strategies to inhibit HuR directly promoted DNA damage accumulation, inefficient PAR removal, and persistent PARP-1 residency on chromatin (PARP-1 trapping). Immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that the PARP-1 protein binds and posttranslationally modifies HuR in PARPi-treated PDAC cells. In a mouse xenograft model of human PDAC, PARPi monotherapy combined with targeted silencing of HuR significantly reduced tumor growth compared with PARPi therapy alone. Our results highlight the HuR–PARG axis as an opportunity to enhance PARPi-based therapies. ©2017 AACR
Probing the plateau-insulator quantum phase transition in the quantum Hall regime
We report quantum Hall experiments on the plateau-insulator transition in a
low mobility In_{.53} Ga_{.47} As/InP heterostructure. The data for the
longitudinal resistance \rho_{xx} follow an exponential law and we extract a
critical exponent \kappa= .55 \pm .05 which is slightly different from the
established value \kappa = .42 \pm .04 for the plateau transitions. Upon
correction for inhomogeneity effects, which cause the critical conductance
\sigma_{xx}^* to depend marginally on temperature, our data indicate that the
plateau-plateau and plateau- insulator transitions are in the same universality
class.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures (.eps
Conjugation-Length Dependence of Spin-Dependent Exciton Formation Rates in Pi-Conjugated Oligomers and Polymers
We have measured the ratio, r = of the formation cross
section, of singlet () and triplet () excitons
from oppositely charged polarons in a large variety of -conjugated
oligomer and polymer films, using the photoinduced absorption and optically
detected magnetic resonance spectroscopies. The ratio r is directly related to
the singlet exciton yield, which in turn determines the maximum
electroluminescence quantum efficiency in organic light emitting diodes (OLED).
We discovered that r increases with the conjugation length, CL; in fact a
universal dependence exists in which depends linearly on ,
irrespective of the chain backbone structure. These results indicate that
-conjugated polymers have a clear advantage over small molecules in OLED
applications.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
