Aerodynamic characteristics of rectangular planform, all-movable controls combined with slender body of revolution at mach 3 to 6.2
Analysis and computer programs to calculate acoustic wave properties of baffled chambers
Analytical methods and four computer programs have been developed for calculating wave motion in closed, baffled chambers with rigid and non-rigid boundaries. Application of these methods to design of injector-face baffles in liquid propellant engines will provide significant insight into effects of baffles on combustion stability
Electroproduction of the d* dibaryon
The unpolarized cross section for the electroproduction of the isoscalar
di-delta dibaryon is calculated for deuteron target using a
simple picture of elastic electron-baryon scattering from the and the components of the deuteron. The calculated
differential cross section at the electron lab energy of 1 GeV has the value of
about 0.24 (0.05) nb/sr at the lab angle of 10 (30) for the
Bonn B potential when the dibaryon mass is taken to be 2.1 GeV. The cross
section decreases rapidly with increasing dibaryon mass. A large calculated
width of 40 MeV for combined with a small
experimental upper bound of 0.08 MeV for the decay width appears to have
excluded any low-mass model containing a significant admixture of the
configuration.Comment: 11 journal-style pages, 8 figure

Spin-Seebeck effect in a strongly interacting Fermi gas
We study the spin-Seebeck effect in a strongly interacting, two-component
Fermi gas and propose an experiment to measure this effect by relatively
displacing spin up and spin down atomic clouds in a trap using spin-dependent
temperature gradients. We compute the spin-Seebeck coefficient and related
spin-heat transport coefficients as functions of temperature and interaction
strength. We find that when the inter-spin scattering length becomes larger
than the Fermi wavelength, the spin-Seebeck coefficient changes sign as a
function of temperature, and hence so does the direction of the
spin-separation. We compute this zero-crossing temperature as a function of
interaction strength and in particular in the unitary limit for the inter-spin
scattering
Universal Behavior in Large-scale Aggregation of Independent Noisy Observations
Aggregation of noisy observations involves a difficult tradeoff between
observation quality, which can be increased by increasing the number of
observations, and aggregation quality which decreases if the number of
observations is too large. We clarify this behavior for a protypical system in
which arbitrarily large numbers of observations exceeding the system capacity
can be aggregated using lossy data compression. We show the existence of a
scaling relation between the collective error and the system capacity, and show
that large scale lossy aggregation can outperform lossless aggregation above a
critical level of observation noise. Further, we show that universal results
for scaling and critical value of noise which are independent of system
capacity can be obtained by considering asymptotic behavior when the system
capacity increases toward infinity.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure
Derivation of linearized transfer functions for switching-mode regulations. Phase A: Current step-up and voltage step-up converters
Small-signal models are derived for the power stage of the voltage step-up (boost) and the current step-up (buck) converters. The modeling covers operation in both the continuous-mmf mode and the discontinuous-mmf mode. The power stage in the regulated current step-up converter on board the Dynamics Explorer Satellite is used as an example to illustrate the procedures in obtaining the small-signal functions characterizing a regulated converter
