The aim of the research was to study steppe cherry cultivars of various environmental origin in the context of their productivity, environmental plasticity and stability in the environments of Chelyabinsk Province. Evaluation of the studied set of cultivars helped to identify adaptable steppe cherries: ‘Izobilnaya’ (4.39 t/ha; KA = 1.54), ‘Shchedraya’ (4.42 t/ha; KA = 1.37), ‘Galimovka’ (3.83 t/ha; KA = 1,36), ‘Mayak’ (4.04 t/ha; KA = 1.30), ‘Ashinskaya’’ (t/ha 3.42; KA = 1.28) and ‘Mechta Zauralya’ (3.29 t/ha; KA = 1.07). The most interesting among them are intensive-type cultivars responding well to improved growing conditions, such as the steppe cherry cultivars developed at Sverdlovsk Horticultural Breeding Station: ‘Shchedraya’ (bi = 1.99), ‘Mechta Zauralya’ (1.85) and ‘Mayak’ (1.47). The Chelyabinsk cultivar ‘Galimovka’, submitted for state trials in 2018, falls under the category of environmentally plastic and stable cultivars (bi = 0.77; Si2 = 0.5), while cv. ‘Ashinskaya’ demonstrated during the tests a neutral genotype, as it poorly responded to changing environmental conditions (bi = 0.32; Si2 = 0.1). A new cultivar, ‘Vita’, with a fairly high yield (3.05 t/ha), developed at Sverdlovsk Horticultural Breeding Station, belongs to the environmentally plastic category (bi = 1.10), but its yield stability proved to be insufficient in the environments of the Southern Urals (Si2 = 2.2)

In this study we applied autologous fat tissue stromal vascular fraction (SVF) cells in combination with microfracturing technique in a 36-year-old man with an osteochondral lesion of the medial femoral condyle 8 months after the injury. Cell material was generated by fat tissue liposuction from the anterior abdominal wall with subsequent extraction of the SVF and injected through a mini-arthrotomy portal with subsequent fibrin sealant fixation. The follow-up period was 2 years. Clinical score improved from 23 to 96 according to IKDC and from 10 to 90 according to EQ-VAS at 24 months follow-up. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before the surgery revealed an osteochondral lesion with development of significant trabecular edema that remained unchanged for 6 months despite conservative treatment. MRI 1 and 2 years after the surgery showed the recovery of the damaged cartilage thickness with somewhat uneven structure and a decrease in the trabecular edema of the femoral condyle. The use of SVF cells with fibrin sealant fixation might be a promising approach in the treatment of osteochondral joint lesions. Further studies are required

Donor-acceptor recombination emission in hydrogen-terminated nanodiamond: Novel single-photon source for room-temperature quantum photonics

In fluorescence spectra of nanodiamonds (NDs) synthesized at high pressure from adamantane and other organic compounds, very narrow (~1 nm) lines of unknown origin are observed in a wide spectroscopic range from ~500 to 800 nm. Here, we propose and experimentally substantiate the hypothesis that these mysterious lines arise from radiative recombination of donor-acceptor pairs (DAPs). To confirm our hypothesis, we study the fluorescence spectra of undoped and nitrogen-doped NDs of different sizes, before and after thermal oxidation of their surface. The results obtained with a high degree of confidence allowed us to conclude that the DAPs are formed through the interaction of donor-like substitutional nitrogen present in the diamond lattice, and a 2D layer of acceptors resulting from the transfer doping effect on the surface of hydrogen-terminated NDs. A specific behavior of the DAP-induced lines was discovered in the temperature range of 100-10 K: their energy increases and most lines are split into 2 or more components with decreasing temperature. It is shown that the majority of the studied DAP emitters are sources of single photons, with an emission rate of up to >1 million counts/s at room temperature, which significantly surpasses that of nitrogen-vacancy and silicon-vacancy centers under the same detection conditions. Despite an observed temporal instability in the emission, the DAP emitters of H-terminated NDs represent a powerful room-temperature single-photon source for quantum optical technologies

Use of Gene-Activated Demineralized Bone Allograft in the Therapy of Ulnar Pseudarthrosis. Case Report

© 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York. This paper presents a clinical case of successful ulnar pseudarthrosis treatment using a gene-activated bone allograft containing VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) and BMP2 (bone morphogenetic protein 2) in the form of a multicystron plasmid. Demineralized bone matrix with applied recombinant plasmid DNA was grafted into the bone defect using the classical open surgical approach. Two months after the surgery, the patient noticed the disappearance of pain including pain during activity. On X-rays of ulna, signs of union in the form of callus formation were found

Successful Surgery of Severely Comorbid Cystic Pulmonary Hypoplasia

Background. Cystic pulmonary hypoplasia is a malformation of terminal bronchial tree as a cystic dilatation of various size at the level of subsegmental bronchi or bronchioles, which accounts for 60–80% of the overall malformation incidence.Materials and methods. We present a descriptive case of general clinical picture, diagnostic radiological examination and choosing a strategy for surgical diagnosis and treatment of cystic pulmonary hypoplasia. Patient K., 57 yo, was admitted to the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Dispensary with fibroatelectasis of the right lung lower lobe and underlying subcompensated diabetes type II, inspected by a phthisiatrician, thoracic surgeon and referred for surgical treatment. Results and discussion. A careful history inspection and Xray data in most cases suffice to successfully diagnose the congenital type of cystic pulmonary defects. Treatment in such patients is personalised, with preference towards surgical intervention. A correct diagnosis is usually conditioned by a detailed and careful examination of the lung morbid morphology during surgery.Conclusion. Modern instrumental methods, with multispiral computed tomography in particular, are key to correctly diagnose a malformation. Relevant case reports are of interest and importance to advance research into causative factors of the disease

Background. The study aimed to improve treatment outcomes in diabetic foot syndrome patients by use of invasive pressure monitoring during arterial radiological interventions.Materials and methods. A total of 36 patients with type 2 diabetes and purulent necrotic lesions of lower extremities have been treated at the surgery unit of Bashkir State Medical University Clinic during 2019—2020, with 12 persons forming the main cohort and receiving the measures complemented with the newly developed “X-ray endovascular intraoperative significance evaluation of lower limb arterial stenosis” technique (Patent RU 2737215 of 26.11.2020). The control cohort comprised 24 patients following pertinent standard treatment and recommendations in this pathology. Results and discussion. Immediate treatment outcomes were evaluated by person in the main and control cohorts. Longterm outcomes were observed at 6, 12 and 24 months since hospital discharge in 10 (83.3 %) patients of the main and 19 (79.2 %) — of the control cohort. In a 2-year run, the limb was kept in 8 (66.7 %) patients having the new revascularisation technique and in 10 (41.7 %) persons of the control cohort (p < 0.05).Conclusion. The use of endovascular radiology for limb revascularisation and intraoperative significance monitoring of lower limb arterial stenosis allow the volume determination of balloon angioplasty and statement of revascularisation completeness
