Search for long-lived states in antiprotonic lithium
The spectrum of the (L_i^3 + p-bar + 2e) four-body system was calculated in
an adiabatic approach. The two-electron energies were approximated by a sum of
two single-electron effective charge two-center energies as suggested in [6].
While the structure of the spectrum does not exclude the existence of
long-lived states, their experimental observability is still to be clarified
The effect of transmucosal 0.2mg/kg Midazolam premedication on dental anxiety, anaesthetic induction and psychological morbidity in children undergoing general anaesthesia for tooth extraction
<b>Background:</b> The project aims were to evaluate the benefit of transmucosal Midazolam 0.2mg/kg pre-medication on anxiety, induction behaviour and psychological morbidity in children undergoing general anaesthesia (GA) extractions. <b>Method:</b> 179 children aged 5-10 years (mean 6.53 years) participated in this randomised, double blind, placebo controlled trial. Ninety children had Midazolam placed in the buccal pouch. Dental anxiety was recorded pre operatively and 48 hours later using a child reported MCDAS-FIS scale. Behaviour at anaesthetic induction was recorded and psychological morbidity was scored by the parent using the Rutter Scale pre-operatively and again one-week later. Subsequent dental attendance was recorded at one, three and six months after GA. <b>Results:</b> Whilst levels of mental anxiety did not reduce overall, the most anxious patients demonstrated a reduction in anxiety after receiving midazolam premedicationmay (p=0.01). Neither induction behaviour nor psychological morbidity improved. Irrespective of group, parents reported less hyperactive (p= 0.002) and more prosocial behaviour (p=0.002) after the procedure:;, older children improved most (p=0.048), Post GA Dental attendance was poor and unrelated to after the procedure and unaffected by premedication. <b>Conclusion:</b> 0.2mg/kg buccal Midazolam provided some evidence for reducing anxiety in the most dentally anxious patients. However, induction behaviour, psychological morbidity and subsequent dental attendance were not found to alter between the premedication groups
Thermodynamics of Large N Gauge Theories with Chemical Potentials in a 1/D Expansion
In order to understand thermodynamical properties of N D-branes with chemical
potentials associated with R-symmetry charges, we study a one dimensional large
N gauge theory (bosonic BFSS type model) as a first step. This model is
obtained through a dimensional reduction of a 1+D dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills
theory and we use a 1/D expansion to investigate the phase structure. We find
three phases in the \mu-T plane. We also show that all the adjoint scalars
condense at large D and obtain a mass dynamically. This dynamical mass protects
our model from the usual perturbative instability of massless scalars in a
non-zero chemical potential. We find that the system is at least meta-stable
for arbitrary large values of the chemical potentials in D \to \infty limit. We
also explore the existence of similar condensation in higher dimensional gauge
theories in a high temperature limit. In 2 and 3 dimensions, the condensation
always happens as in one dimensional case. On the other hand, if the dimension
is higher than 4, there is a critical chemical potential and the condensation

Logarithmic perturbation theory for quasinormal modes
Logarithmic perturbation theory (LPT) is developed and applied to quasinormal
modes (QNMs) in open systems. QNMs often do not form a complete set, so LPT is
especially convenient because summation over a complete set of unperturbed
states is not required. Attention is paid to potentials with exponential tails,
and the example of a Poschl-Teller potential is briefly discussed. A numerical
method is developed that handles the exponentially large wavefunctions which

Holographic Conformal Window - A Bottom Up Approach
We propose a five-dimensional framework for modeling the background geometry
associated to ordinary Yang-Mills (YM) as well as to nonsupersymmetric gauge
theories possessing an infrared fixed point with fermions in various
representations of the underlying gauge group. The model is based on the
improved holographic approach, on the string theory side, and on the
conjectured all-orders beta function for the gauge theory one. We first analyze
the YM gauge theory. We then investigate the effects of adding flavors and show
that, in the holographic description of the conformal window, the geometry
becomes AdS when approaching the ultraviolet and the infrared regimes. As the
number of flavors increases within the conformal window we observe that the
geometry becomes more and more of AdS type over the entire energy range.Comment: 20 Pages, 3 Figures. v2: references adde
Towards multi-scale dynamics on the baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler
We construct explicitly a new class of backgrounds in type-IIB supergravity
which generalize the baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler. We apply a
solution-generating technique that, starting from a large class of solutions of
the wrapped-D5 system, yields the new solutions, and then proceed to study in
detail their properties, both in the IR and in the UV. We propose a simple
intuitive field theory interpretation of the rotation procedure and of the
meaning of our new solutions within the Papadopoulos-Tseytlin ansatz, in
particular in relation to the duality cascade in the Klebanov-Strassler
solution. The presence in the field theory of different VEVs for operators of
dimensions 2, 3 and 6 suggests that this is an important step towards the
construction of the string dual of a genuinely multi-scale (strongly coupled)

The Holographic Dual of 2+1 Dimensional QFTs with N=1 SUSY and Massive Fundamental Flavours
The Maldacena Nastase solution is generalised to include massive fundamental
matter through the addition of a flavour profile. This gives a holographic dual
to N=1 SYM-CS with massive fundamental matter with a singularity free IR. We
study this solution in some detail confirming confinement and asymptotic
freedom. A recently proposed solution generating technique is then applied
which results in a new type-IIA supergravity solution. In a certain limit the
geometry of this solution is asymptotically AdS_4X Y, where Y is the metric at
the base of the Bryant-Salamon G_2 cone, which has topology S^3XS^3.Comment: 31 pages plus appendices, 6 figures. v3: Typos corrected, version to

Holographic Wilsonian flows and emergent fermions in extremal charged black holes
We study holographic Wilsonian RG in a general class of asymptotically AdS
backgrounds with a U(1) gauge field. We consider free charged Dirac fermions in
such a background, and integrate them up to an intermediate radial distance,
yielding an equivalent low energy dual field theory. The new ingredient,
compared to scalars, involves a `generalized' basis of coherent states which
labels a particular half of the fermion components as coordinates or momenta,
depending on the choice of quantization (standard or alternative). We apply
this technology to explicitly compute RG flows of charged fermionic operators
and their composites (double trace operators) in field theories dual to (a)
pure AdS and (b) extremal charged black hole geometries. The flow diagrams and
fixed points are determined explicitly. In the case of the extremal black hole,
the RG flows connect two fixed points at the UV AdS boundary to two fixed
points at the IR AdS_2 region. The double trace flow is shown, both numerically
and analytically, to develop a pole singularity in the AdS_2 region at low
frequency and near the Fermi momentum, which can be traced to the appearance of
massless fermion modes on the low energy cut-off surface. The low energy field
theory action we derive exactly agrees with the semi-holographic action
proposed by Faulkner and Polchinski in arXiv:1001.5049 [hep-th]. In terms of
field theory, the holographic version of Wilsonian RG leads to a quantum theory
with random sources. In the extremal black hole background the random sources
become `light' in the AdS_2 region near the Fermi surface and emerge as new

The decline and rise of neighbourhoods: the importance of neighbourhood governance
There is a substantial literature on the explanation of neighbourhood change. Most of this literature concentrates on identifying factors and developments behind processes of decline. This paper reviews the literature, focusing on the identification of patterns of neighbourhood change, and argues that the concept of neighbourhood governance is a missing link in attempts to explain these patterns. Including neighbourhood governance in the explanations of neighbourhood change and decline will produce better explanatory models and, finally, a better view about what is actually steering neighbourhood change
Development of DYNAMIX Policy Mixes - Deliverable 4.2, revised version, of the DYNAMIX project
This report documents the development of the initial dynamic policy mixes that were developed for assessment in the DYNAMIX project. The policy mixes were designed within three different policy areas: overarching policy, land-use and food, and metals and other materials. The policy areas were selected to address absolute decoupling in general and, specifically, the DYNAMIX targets related to the use of virgin metals, the use of arable land and freshwater, the input of the nutrients nitrogen and phosphorus, and emissions of greenhouse gases.
Each policy mix was developed within a separate author team, using a common methodological framework that utilize previous findings in the project. Specific drivers and barriers for resource use and resource efficiency are discussed in each policy area. Specific policy objectives and targets are also discussed before the actual policy mix is presented. Each policy mix includes a set of key instruments, which can be embedded in a wider set of supporting and complementary policy instruments. All key instruments are described in the report through responses to a set of predefined questions.
The overarching mix includes a broad variety of key instruments. The land-use policy mix emphasizes five instruments to improve food production through, for example, revisions of already existing policy documents. It also includes three instruments to influence the food consumption and food waste. The policy mix on metals and other materials primarily aims at reducing the use of virgin metals through increased recycling, increased material efficiency and environmentally justified material substitution. To avoid simply shifting of burdens, it includes several instruments of an overarching character
