Column size effects of DER fluids
The static yield stress of dielectric electrorheological(DER) fluids of
infinite column state and chain state are calculated from the first principle
method. The results indicate that the column surface contributions to ER
effects is very small and both states will give correct results to the real DER
fluids.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Density Functional Theory Studies of Magnetically Confined Fermi Gas
A theory is developed for magnetically confined Fermi gas at low temperature
based on the density functional theory. The theory is illustrated by numerical
calculation of density distributions of Fermi atoms K with parameters
according to DeMarco and Jin's experiment[Science, 285(1999)1703]. Our results
are in good agreement with the experiment. To check the theory, we also
performed calculations using our theory at high temperature and compared very
well to the result of classical limit.Comment: 6 page
Numerical framework for transcritical real-fluid reacting flow simulations using the flamelet progress variable approach
An extension to the classical FPV model is developed for transcritical
real-fluid combustion simulations in the context of finite volume, fully
compressible, explicit solvers. A double-flux model is developed for
transcritical flows to eliminate the spurious pressure oscillations. A hybrid
scheme with entropy-stable flux correction is formulated to robustly represent
large density ratios. The thermodynamics for ideal-gas values is modeled by a
linearized specific heat ratio model. Parameters needed for the cubic EoS are
pre-tabulated for the evaluation of departure functions and a quadratic
expression is used to recover the attraction parameter. The novelty of the
proposed approach lies in the ability to account for pressure and temperature
variations from the baseline table. Cryogenic LOX/GH2 mixing and reacting cases
are performed to demonstrate the capability of the proposed approach in
multidimensional simulations. The proposed combustion model and numerical
schemes are directly applicable for LES simulations of real applications under
transcritical conditions.Comment: 55th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, Dallas, T
Broadband RCS Reduction of Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Bandstop Frequency Selective Surface
In this article, a simple and effective approach is presented to reduce the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of microstrip patch antenna in ultra broad frequency band. This approach substitutes a metallic ground plane of a conventional patch antenna with a hybrid ground consisting of bandstop Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) cells with partial metallic plane. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach, the influence of different ground planes on antenna’s performance is investigated. Thus, a patch antenna with miniaturized FSS cells is proposed. The results suggest that this antenna shows 3dB RCS reduction almost in the whole out-of operating band within 1-20GHz for wide incident angles when compared to conventional antenna, while its radiation characteristics are sustained simultaneously. The reasonable agreement between the measured and the simulated results verifies the efficiency of the proposed approach. Moreover, this approach doesn’t alter the lightweight, low-profile, easy conformal and easy manufacturing nature of the original antenna and can be extended to obtain low-RCS antennas with metallic planes in broadband that are quite suitable for the applications which are sensitive to the variation of frequencies
The StoreGate: a Data Model for the Atlas Software Architecture
The Atlas collaboration at CERN has adopted the Gaudi software architecture
which belongs to the blackboard family: data objects produced by knowledge
sources (e.g. reconstruction modules) are posted to a common in-memory data
base from where other modules can access them and produce new data objects. The
StoreGate has been designed, based on the Atlas requirements and the experience
of other HENP systems such as Babar, CDF, CLEO, D0 and LHCB, to identify in a
simple and efficient fashion (collections of) data objects based on their type
and/or the modules which posted them to the Transient Data Store (the
blackboard). The developer also has the freedom to use her preferred key class
to uniquely identify a data object according to any other criterion. Besides
this core functionality, the StoreGate provides the developers with a powerful
interface to handle in a coherent fashion persistable references, object
lifetimes, memory management and access control policy for the data objects in
the Store. It also provides a Handle/Proxy mechanism to define and hide the
cache fault mechanism: upon request, a missing Data Object can be transparently
created and added to the Transient Store presumably retrieving it from a
persistent data-base, or even reconstructing it on demand.Comment: Talk from the 2003 Computing in High Energy and Nuclear Physics
