Paraná is the fourth largest grape producing state in Brazil and the cultivation of Vitis vinifera L. cultivars for winemaking is expanding is several regions of the state. The objective of this work was to characterize the potential of wine grape production based on the Géoviticulture Multicriteria Climatic Classification System for Paraná. A 30-year database constituted of 21 IAPAR (Agronomic Institute of Paraná) meteorological stations and 455 rainfall stations from Instituto das Águas do Paraná (Paraná State Water Institute) generated the following climatic indexes: dryness index (DI), heliothermal index (HI) and cool night index (CI) for the periods of October to March and April to September. According to the results, the viticultural climate of some regions in the state of Paraná belongs to the climatic groups where are found several traditional wine-producing regions in the world, showing potential for the expansion of winemaking in the state. Viticultural climate, associated with latitude in Paraná and with thermal conditions for vine growing cycle all over the year, make production displacement possible in the West, North and Northeastern regions and the production of the best quality grapes for winemaking in the fall and winter period, due to the most favorable cold night index and the lowest rainfall volume. In the coldest regions of the state (Center, South and East), it is only possible to have one production cycle, since the risk of frosts prevents the exploration of grapes in different periods

In Brazil, studies of zoning in wine have contributed to the development of geographical indications. As for the geographical identity, the geology of the criteria has been a subject of research. The region of the Serra Gaúcha, located in northeastem Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has a geodiversity that induce the formation of soils and terrain, comprising natural and cultural factors that imply different responses of agronomic vine. These features value the production of wines with unique qualities, which can define different terroirs. The region is at the limit of the geomorphologic units Serra Geral and Planalto dos Campos Gerais, generated from the rocks of the Serra Geral Formation. ln the Pinto Bandeira geographical indication for fine wines occurs in the most of area, the Caxias Facies of Serra Geral Formation, which is composed of intermediate to acid rocks (rhyodacite), originated 131 million years ago during a vo1canic fissural event of continental extension. The rocks are grayish mesocratic and show fine granular to microphaneritic texture. The area cultivated with vineyards in the Pinto Bandeira geographical indication is located on higher altitudes and lower slopes terrains, on the tops of the plateaus, occupied by rocks of Caxias Facies. Soils formed on parent material of the Caxias Facies are a set of argisoils, cambisoils and nitosoils. To integrate the information was prepared a base map in O1S for zoning studies and also to spatializing different descriptors of natural factors. To construct the geological sketch, photo-interpretation techniques were employed high-resolution aerial photos associated with field work. The digital image processing was used to construct the digital elevation model from high resolution orbital data and its derivatives such as altimetry, slope and exposure, as well as the geological structures and land forms

Autochthonous yeast populations from different brazilian geographic indications.

Yeasts are versatile microorganisms which show heterogeneity in their abilities of aromatic molecules formation. The metabolic conversions may improve the production of a particular compound already formed by the microorganism or promote the production of a completely new biochemicals. These conversions depend on the environment. The microbiome of terroir is unique. If the term terroir is a set of physical properties of a vineyard that contribute to the specific characteristics of its wine, the microorganisms will undoubtedly form an integral part of this concept. There are yeasts, filamentous fungi and bacteria that can affect the quality of the wine. The aim of the present study was to identify the autochthonous yeast populations of grape berries collected from regions with Geographic Indications or under construction. The identification was carried out by an approach, combining Maldi-Tof-MS, PCR-RFLP of the internal transcribed spacer with 5.8S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and sequences of the D1/D2 domain of the 26S rRNA gene. Some species are common to different GIs and in some of them other species are completely absent, besides some places are contiguous areas. In some areas, Hanseniaspora opuntiae, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia myanmarensis and Hanseniaspora uvarum were the predominant species.Também publicado em: CONGRESSO MUNDIAL DA VINHA E DO VINHO, 39., 2016, Bento Gonçalves. Detection of a slow-flow component in contrast-enhanced ultrasound of the synovia for the differential diagnosis of arthritis

Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) is a sensitive imaging technique to assess tissue vascularity, that can be useful in the quantification of different perfusion patterns. This can particularly important in the early detection and differentiation of different types of arthritis. A Gamma-variate can accurately quantify synovial perfusion and it is flexible enough to describe many heterogeneous patterns. However, in some cases the heterogeneity of the kinetics can be such that even the Gamma model does not properly describe the curve, especially in presence of recirculation or of an additional slowflow component. In this work we apply to CEUS data both the Gamma-variate and the single compartment recirculation model (SCR) which takes explicitly into account an additional component of slow flow. The models are solved within a Bayesian framework. We also employed the perfusion estimates obtained with SCR to train a support vector machine classifier to distinguish different types of arthritis. When dividing the patients into two groups (rheumatoid arthritis and polyarticular RA-like psoriatic arthritis vs. other arthritis types), the slow component amplitude was significantly different across groups: mean values of a1 and its variability were statistically higher in RA and RA-like patients (131% increase in mean, p = 0.035 and 73% increase in standard deviation, p = 0.049 respectively). The SVM classifier achieved a balanced accuracy of 89%, with a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 78%. © 2017 SPIE

From macro to nano: Linking quantitative CEUS perfusion parameters to CD4+ T cells subtypes in spondyloarthtitis

    Get PDF
The onset and progression of immune-mediated inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis, are linked to the IL23-IL17 immune axis, so that many therapeutic strategies aim at modulating this pathway. However, there is so far no possibility of an in vivo direct monitoring, without a biopsy, of the specific T cells involved in this modulation. Synovial perfusion, and thus synovial angiogenesis, has been recognized as a sensitive and early marker of inflammation that can be evaluated via quantitative analysis of contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging data. © 2017 IEEE
