Detection algorithms for the Nano nose

The Nano nose is an instrument with an array of nano sized optical sensors that produces digital patterns when exposed to radiation passing through a gaseous mixture. The digital patterns correspond to the amount of photocurrent registered on each of the sensors. The problem is to find the gas constituents in the gaseous mixture and estimate their concentrations. This thesis outlines an algorithm using a combination of a mixed gas detector and a gas concentration predictor. The mixed gas detector is an array of neural networks corresponding to the number of gases. There are two techniques outlined for the implementation of the gas concentration predictor which are the partial least squares regression (PLS) and the Kalman filter. The output of the developed algorithm would not only show the detection of the individual constituents in the gaseous mixture but also provide the prediction of their concentrations. The algorithm designed is entirely re-configurable providing greater amount of flexibility and has detected the constituents along with the prediction of their concentrations of a mixture of three gases

    Oral histoplasmosis

    No full text
Histoplasmosis is a systemic fungal disease that takes various clinical forms, among which oral lesions are rare. The disseminated form of the disease that usually occurs in association with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is one of the AIDS-defining diseases. Isolated oral histoplasmosis, without systemic involvement, with underlying immunosuppression due to AIDS is very rare. We report one such case of isolated oral histoplasmosis in a HIV-infected patient

The nano nose is an instrument with an array of nano sized optical sensors that produces digital patterns when exposed to radiation passing through a gaseous mixture. This paper outlines an algorithm using a combination of neural networks and partial least squares (PLS) regression, Kalman filter capable of processing these digital patterns and generate an output. This output would not only show the detection of the individual constituents in the gaseous mixture but also the prediction of their concentrations. The developed algorithm in the experiments conducted, has performed detection and prediction of quite low concentrations of constituent gases successfully with a prediction error of less than 10% in the presence of noise

Pomegranate Elixir in Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

The Pomegranate is an unusual, seedy fruit with a tart, yet sweet & sore taste, which admittedly, can take some getting used to it. It contains more artery-cleansing antioxidants as compared to red wine. It has a good medicinal property in all abound. Pomegranate fruit is not only rich in nutrients and has medicinal properties. The whole plant, i.e., roots, bark, leaves, stem, flowers and the fruit has good medicinal values. But it’s worth in persevering with the pomegranate, because a glass of its juice or big bowl of its seeds can provide with more heart healthy, antioxidants than any other fruit juice in the world. From the ancients period the pomegranate is used for the infertility treatment as well to prevent the women with poly cystic ovarian syndrome by regulating periods regularly

Custom instruction generation using temporal partitioning techniques for a reconfigurable functional unit

    Get PDF
Abstract. Extracting appropriate custom instructions is an important phase for implementing an application on an extensible processor with a reconfigurable functional unit (RFU). Custom instructions (CIs) are usually extracted from critical portions of applications. It may not be possible to meet all of the RFU constraints when CIs are generated. This paper addresses the generation of mappable CIs on an RFU. In this paper, our proposed RFU architecture for an adaptive dynamic extensible processor is described. Then, an integrated framework for temporal partitioning and mapping is presented to partition and map the CIs on RFU. In this framework, two mapping aware temporal partitioning algorithms are used to generate CIs. Temporal partitioning iterates and modifies partitions incrementally to generate CIs. Using this framework brings about more speedup for the extensible processor. 1

Comparison of clinical outcomes between “heads-up” 3D viewing system and conventional microscope in macular hole surgeries: A pilot study

    No full text
Purpose: To compare clinical outcomes of patients undergoing macular hole surgery with heads-up three-dimensional (3D) viewing system and conventional microscope. Methods: In all, 50 eyes of 50 patients with stage 3 or 4 macular hole were randomized and macular hole surgery [inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique] was performed in 25 eyes using 3D viewing system and 25 eyes using conventional microscope. All surgeries were performed by a single surgeon. Patients were followed up for a period of 3 months. Logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) visual acuity, macular hole index, intraoperative parameters such as total surgical time, total ILM peel time, number of flap initiations, duration of Brilliant Blue G dye exposure, illumination intensity, postoperative logMAR visual acuity, and macular hole closure rates were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results: The mean age was 67.92 ± 7.95 and 67.96 ± 4.78 years in both groups, respectively (P = 0.98). Gender (P = 0.38) and right versus left eye (P = 0.39) were also comparable. Preoperative and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (P = 0.86, 0.92), macular hole index (P = 0.96), total surgical time (P = 0.56), total ILM peel time (P = 0.49), number of flap initiations (P = 0.11), and macular hole closure rates (P = 0.61) were not statistically significant when compared between the two groups. Illumination intensity of microscope (100% vs 45%) and endoillumination (40% vs 13%) were significantly less in the 3D viewing system. Conclusion: The clinical outcomes of macular hole surgery using 3D viewing system are not inferior to that of conventional microscopes, and it has the added advantages of better ergonomics, reduced phototoxicity, peripheral visualization, magnification, and less asthenopia, and it serves as a good educational tool

EVALUATION OF RISK FACTORS AND THEIR PROGNOSTIC VALUE IN PATIENTS WITH ISCHEMIC STROKE.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the risk factors in patients with ischemic stroke, to find out the prognosis of ischemic stroke regarding risk factors, and to identify the patients having modifiable risk factors so that care can be taken to prevent recurrences. Methods: This was a Prospective observational study with 100 Patients with ischemic stroke. Patients were recruited from November 2017–October 2018. NIHSS score was used to classify the severity of the stroke. The Barthel index was used to assess prognosis at the time of discharge. Results: The mean age of study population was 61.4± 13.7 years. There was no statistically significant(P=0.28) difference in the outcome of the patients with respect to gender. There was a statistically significant(P=0.04) difference in the severity of the patients respective to gender. Among 100 patients 55 had hypertension and the Relative Risk of hypertension was found to be 1.22, indicating hypertension is the most predominant risk factor. Conclusion: Hypertension is the most prevalent risk factor in the present study. As per our study finding’s hypertension, diabetes mellitus, a history of smoking, and a history of alcohol intake were the preventable risk factors leading to the severe stroke and poor functional outcome. Patients with multiple risk factors had severe stroke and poor functional outcome when compared to the patients with single or no risk factors. Patients with severe stroke based on NIHSS score had the poor functional outcome
