Global monopole as dual-vacuum solution in Kaluza-Klein spacetime

    Get PDF
By application of the duality transformation, which implies interchange of active and passive electric parts of the Riemann curvature (equivalent to interchange of Ricci and Einstein tensors) it is shown that the global monopole solution in the Kaluza-Klein spacetime is dual to the corresponding vacuum solution. Further we also obtain solution dual to flat space which would in general describe a massive global monopole in 4-dimensional Euclidean space and would have massless limit analogus to the 4-dimensional dual-flat solution.Comment: 8 pages, LaTEX versio

Objectives: to create awareness, to screen samples of school adolescents and then to reach their community through them by doing surveillance for sickle cell disease. Design: Field based cross-sectional study. Settings: St Xavier`s high school and Vanraj high school of Umarpada taluka of Surat district. Subjects: School adolescents, their parents and friends. Method: After taking permission from school authority, blood samples of 948 school adolescents were taken for DTT test and then for electrophoresis. Blood samples of motivated parents and friends of those adolescents found positive for DTT was taken in subsequent visit and results were communicated to them. Results: Blood samples of 948 school adolescents, out of 1081 were tested for DTT test. It was positive in 242 samples, giving a prevalence of 25.5% for sickle cell disease. On subjecting the positive blood samples to electrophoresis, the proportion of sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease was found to be 92% and 8% respectively. Then electrophoresis was done in 64 parents and friends, 24 (37.5%) of them were found positive of which, 14 (58%) were having sickle cell trait and 10 (42%) having sickle cell disease. Conclusion: approaching community can be possible through school adolescents for conduction of surveillance of sickle cell anemi

Detection of Sugar-Lectin Interactions by Multivalent Dendritic Sugar Functionalized Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

We show that single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) decorated with sugar functionalized poly (propyl ether imine) (PETIM) dendrimer is a very sensitive platform to quantitatively detect carbohydrate recognizing proteins, namely, lectins. The changes in electrical conductivity of SWNT in field effect transistor device due to carbohydrate - protein interactions form the basis of present study. The mannose sugar attached PETIM dendrimers undergo charge - transfer interactions with the SWNT. The changes in the conductance of the dendritic sugar functionalized SWNT after addition of lectins in varying concentrations were found to follow the Langmuir type isotherm, giving the concanavalin A (Con A) - mannose affinity constant to be 8.5 x 106 M-1. The increase in the device conductance observed after adding 10 nM of Con A is same as after adding 20 \muM of a non - specific lectin peanut agglutinin, showing the high specificity of the Con A - mannose interactions. The specificity of sugar-lectin interactions was characterized further by observing significant shifts in Raman modes of the SWNT.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figure

Titanium lag screw osteosynthesis in the management of mandibular fractures

Aims and objectives: To evaluate the efficiency of titanium lag screws in the management of oblique and sagittally displaced mandibular fractures. Also to analyze various complications encountered through this technique. Materials and methods: Twenty cases presenting with mandibular oblique, sagittaly displaced mandibular fractures requiring were selected in our study. Titanium lag screws were placed such that their axes bisect the angle between a perpendicular drawn to the fracture line and perpendicular to the bone surface. Postoperative follow up was done for 3to 9 months Results: Majority of the fractures (10) were parasymphysis fractures, 3 with associated fractures. Intermaxillary fixation was used in two of these cases as the fracture fragments were severely displaced (Table1). In two patients, a single lag screw combined with a small conventional miniplate and a bone graft was used, due to loss of bone along the inferior border of the mandible in the fractured site. Two lag screws were used in severely displaced symphysis fractures and when two fracture sites were seen. Adequate rigidity and stability of fractured segments was achieved in all the cases. Conclusion : Titanium lag screw fixation was found to have good rigidity, stability, economic and less time consuming in certain type of mandibular fractures, though there exists few contraindications regarding its usage. It is definitely a technique sensitive procedure, requiring strict adherence to the principle if lag screw placement and adequate knowledge about internal anatomy of the mandible

With the advent of modern technology has made our life simple, comfortable luxurious compared to the previous years. Now a day’s people are more habituated to vehicles for travelling purpose because of its ease and time consumption. Thus there is 31increase in usage of vehicles leading to increase in traffic causing many people to die due to road accidents. This paper is about a system that prevents the accident of vehicles which gives more likely to lower the accidents takes place daily on roads and at the same time if any accident occurs the system will locate the vehicles location and informs to local emergency authorities automatically helps to take immediate and appropriate actions. This system is based on Arduino developed with Global Positioning System (GPS) to identify the vehicle's location and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technologies. A motion sensor gyroscope with 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer is used that measures the vehicles velocity and tilting position when the vehicle hits by something. When the vehicle velocity is more than the defined maximum for the particular location a warning will be given automatically and if any accident occurs the geographical coordinates of place are located by GPS and sends an SMS to the authorities nearby

A duality relation for fluid spacetime

    Get PDF
We consider the electromagnetic resolution of gravitational field. We show that under the duality transformation, in which active and passive electric parts of the Riemann curvature are interchanged, a fluid spacetime in comoving coordinates remains invariant in its character with density and pressure transforming, while energy flux and anisotropic pressure remaining unaltered. Further if fluid admits a barotropic equation of state, p=(γ1)ρp = (\gamma - 1) \rho where 1γ21 \leq \gamma \leq 2, which will transform to p=(2γ3γ21)ρp = (\frac{2 \gamma}{3 \gamma - 2} - 1) \rho. Clearly the stiff fluid and dust are dual to each-other while ρ+3p=0\rho + 3 p =0, will go to flat spacetime. However the n (ρ3p=0)(\rho - 3 p = 0) and the deSitter (ρ+p=0(\rho + p = 0) universes ar e self-dual.Comment: 5 pages, LaTeX version, Accepted in Classical Quantum Gravity as a Lette

Background: Azaheterocycles are an important class of compounds because of their highly potent medicinal activities, and the imidazole subcategory is of special interest in regard to drug discovery research. Findings: An expeditious synthetic protocol of 2-aryl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazoles has been accomplished by reacting phenylglyoxal monohydrate, ammonium acetate, and aldehyde under sonication. Following this green approach a series of 2-aryl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazoles has been synthesized using diversely substituted aldehydes. Conclusions: A rapid and simple synthetic procedure to synthesize diversely substituted 2-aryl-4-phenyl-1H-imidazoles has been reported. Other salient features of this protocol include milder conditions, atom-economy, easy extraction, and minimum wastes. The present procedure may find application in the synthesis of biologically active molecules

Identification of Pearl Millet blast resistant source against different pathotypes

Pearl Millet leaf blast caused by Pyricularia grisea (teleomorph: Magnaporthe grisea), is one of the most important diseases of pearl millet in India. The disease can be best managed by breeding blast resistant hybrid cultivars. For identification of resistance in the elite hybrid parent lines, designated B-Lines and R-lines (200 each) were screened under greenhouse conditions against six diverse pathotype-isolates of M.Grisea
