Characterisation of Rhizobia on the Basis of Antibiotic Responses

    Get PDF
Rhizobium spp. were isolated from root nodules of 10 cultivated & three wild legume hosts. All the isolated Rhizobia were individually tested for their antibiotic response. Biodiscs of five antibiotics having three different concentrations viz: 0.5%, 1% & 1.5% were tested against the isolated Rhizobia using plate culture method. The affectivity of the antibiotics was revealed in terms of zone formation & was measured in mm

Five isolates of Pleurotus spp. viz. Pleurrtus florida. P. sajor-caju, P. eous, P. flabellatus, P. sp. were cultured on PDA media and maintained on PDA slants. All the isolated species were tested for biomass production in various media viz. Richard’s Broth, Asthana Hawker’s. Czapecks’ Dox, Potato Dextrose and Malt Extract  Broth media. The maximum biomass was recorded on Potato dextrose media in P. florida, (1.86 g). The minimum biomass was recorded on Asthana Hawker’s media in P.florida & P.eous (1.15g). All the isolated spp. were tested for the effect of pH variations. A pH range between 3 to 8 was recorded. The maximum biomass was recorded at 5.0 pH. The biomass gradually decreased in an acidic environment, similarly higher pH also did not favoured the growth as well as biomass

Adoption of fishery enterprises and empowerment options for fisherwomen of India Women play a crucial role in the growth and development of any agrarian economy. The economic status of women is widely accepted as an indicator for assessing the exact stage of development of society. As compared to men, wOmen in small and marginal farms undertake heavy load of work both in the farms and in the house, with very limited access to and control over the resources necessary for farming and house keeping. Though women are not actively involved in marine fi sheries, they contribute substantially in the pre and post harvest operation

Integrated coastal management for sustainable development

This paper examines how the coastal areas are highly productive rich in biodiversity and support intense economic and social activities. Indian subcontinent has a vast coastline extending 8129 km with enormous potential for development. These coastal areas are often the sites of wealthiest settlements and the most dynamic growth centres and as a consequence rapid development has taken place utilising the vast resources sustaining the life of coastal villages and the 'fishermen, besides economic gains for the country as a whol

The principles and practice of open fracture care, 2018

    Get PDF
The principles of open fracture management are to manage the overall injury and specifically prevent primary contamination becoming frank infection. The surgical management of these complex injuries includes debridement and lavage of the open wound with combined bony and soft tissue reconstruction. Good results depend on early high quality definitive surgery usually with early stable internal fixation and associated soft tissue repair. While all elements of the surgical principles are very important and depend on each other for overall success the most critical element appears to be achieving very early healthy soft tissue cover. As the injuries become more complex this involves progressively more complex soft tissue reconstruction and may even requiring urgent free tissue transfer requiring close co-operative care between orthopaedic and plastic surgeons. Data suggests that the best results are obtained when the whole surgical reconstruction is completed within 48-72 h

Irreducible pseudo 2-factor isomorphic cubic bipartite graphs

A bipartite graph is {\em pseudo 2--factor isomorphic} if all its 2--factors have the same parity of number of circuits. In \cite{ADJLS} we proved that the only essentially 4--edge-connected pseudo 2--factor isomorphic cubic bipartite graph of girth 4 is K3,3K_{3,3}, and conjectured \cite[Conjecture 3.6]{ADJLS} that the only essentially 4--edge-connected cubic bipartite graphs are K3,3K_{3,3}, the Heawood graph and the Pappus graph. There exists a characterization of symmetric configurations n3n_3 %{\bf decide notation and how to use it in the rest of the paper} due to Martinetti (1886) in which all symmetric configurations n3n_3 can be obtained from an infinite set of so called {\em irreducible} configurations \cite{VM}. The list of irreducible configurations has been completed by Boben \cite{B} in terms of their {\em irreducible Levi graphs}. In this paper we characterize irreducible pseudo 2--factor isomorphic cubic bipartite graphs proving that the only pseudo 2--factor isomorphic irreducible Levi graphs are the Heawood and Pappus graphs. Moreover, the obtained characterization allows us to partially prove the above Conjecture

    Flavonoids: an overview

    Get PDF
Flavonoids, a group of natural substances with variable phenolic structures, are found in fruits, vegetables, grains, bark, roots, stems, flowers, tea and wine. These natural products are well known for their beneficial effects on health and efforts are being made to isolate the ingredients so called flavonoids. Flavonoids are now considered as an indispensable component in a variety of nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, medicinal and cosmetic applications. This is attributed to their anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic properties coupled with their capacity to modulate key cellular enzyme function. Research on flavonoids received an added impulse with the discovery of the low cardiovascular mortality rate and also prevention of CHD. Information on the working mechanisms of flavonoids is still not understood properly. However, it has widely been known for centuries that derivatives of plant origin possess a broad spectrum of biological activity. Current trends of research and development activities on flavonoids relate to isolation, identification, characterisation and functions of flavonoids and finally their applications on health benefits. Molecular docking and knowledge of bioinformatics are also being used to predict potential applications and manufacturing by industry. In the present review, attempts have been made to discuss the current trends of research and development on flavonoids, working mechanisms of flavonoids, flavonoid functions and applications, prediction of flavonoids as potential drugs in preventing chronic diseases and future research directions

Occupational Engagement and Health in Older South Asian Immigrants

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to investigate the elements that shape how healthy active South Asian elder immigrants engage in daily activities to maintain their health. A descriptive grounded theory approach was employed using semi-structured interviews and a daily activity chart. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 12 South Asian elders, 7 males and 5 females, who immigrated after retirement to the South San Francisco Bay area. Open, axial, and selective coding of the transcribed data led to two broad themes, control and interdependence. These themes may be viewed as dynamic and interconnected forces that shape and determine the elder\u27s choice and orchestration of daily occupations. They are mediated by the sub-themes of social dynamics, cultural values, and health. Results indicate that well South Asian elder immigrants have a holistic and pragmatic outlook towards health, accept the constraints of their new environment and find ways to engage in healthy occupations. Their choice and engagement of occupations in turn facilitates adaptation to life in the United States. Barriers to health occur when the interdependent nature of lives and the individual control over occupational choices are out of balance or are disrupted
