    Social media streams contain large and diverse amount of information, ranging from daily-life stories to the latest global and local events and news. Twitter, especially, allows a fast spread of events happening real time, and enables individuals and organizations to stay informed of the events happening now. Event detection from social media data poses different challenges from traditional text and is a research area that has attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, we survey a wide range of event detection methods for Twitter data stream, helping readers understand the recent development in this area.     Factors influencing sleep disturbances among spouse caregivers of cancer patients in Northeast China.

    BACKGROUND: In China, spouse caregivers of cancer patients (SCCPs) are involved in all aspects of patient care and experience psychological distress which could result in sleep disturbance and fatigue. However, few studies have explored the differences between SCCPs and the general population, or what factors affect SCCPs' sleep. This study aims to (1) Compare the differences in sleep disturbances and fatigue severity between SCCPs and the age- and gender-matched general population, and (2) Identify selected personal characteristics, including coping style that affect sleep disturbances in SCCPs. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: The Stress and Coping Model was used to guide this study. Participants were recruited from the northeast part of China and included 600 people from the general population and 300 SCCPs. Participants completed a socio-demographic form, Fatigue Scale-14, trait Coping Style Questionnaire, and Symptom Checklist-90. RESULTS: The majority of the participants were middle age, most of whom (78.7%) spent more than 8 hours each day taking care of their spouses. Compared to the general population, the SCCPs experienced significant sleep disturbances with a mean of 7.30 (SD = 1.27), and fatigue severity with a mean of 8.11 (SD = 3.25). Among the selected SCCPs' personal characteristics, current poor health status (Ξ² = 0.14, P<0.001), having a spouse under mixed treatment (Ξ² = 0.13, p<0.001), and financial burden (Ξ² = 0.14, P<0.001) are the significant predictors for sleep disturbances. Positive coping is the predictor for fewer sleep disturbances (Ξ² = 0.27, P<0.001). Those who reported sleep disturbances also experienced higher physical and mental fatigue severity (P<0.001). CONCLUSION: Intervention to improve coping style in SCCPs is needed. Further research is also needed to explore the other mediators and moderators that regulate sleep disturbance and health outcomes in the SCCPs

    Investigation of Growth Mechanism of Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation Coating on Al-Ti Double-Layer Composite Plate

    The aluminum&ndash;titanium (Al-Ti) double-layer composite plate is a promising composite material, but necessary surface protection was required before its application. In this paper, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was employed to fabricate a ceramic coating on the surface of a Al-Ti double-layer composite plate. To investigate the coating growth mechanism on the Al-Ti double-layer composite plate, a single-Al plate and a single-Ti plate were introduced for comparison experiments. Results showed that, the composite of Al and Ti accelerated the coating growth rate on the part-Ti portion of the composite plate, and that of the part-Al portion was decreased. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis indicated that the equivalent circuit of the Al-Ti coating was formed by connecting two different circuits in parallel. The reaction behavior revealed that the electric energy during the PEO would leak from the circuit with the weaker blocking effect, and confirmed that the electric energy distribution followed the law of low-resistance distribution. Finally, the mechanism was extended to the PEO treatment on general metal matrix composites to broaden the application theory of the technology

    Investigating the Responses of Microbial Communities to Banana <i>Fusarium</i> Wilt in Suppressive and Conducive Soils Based on Soil Particle-Size Differentiation

    The microbiota plays a primary role in inhibiting plant pathogens in the soils. However, the correlation between soil particles and local microbial communities has not been fully confirmed. In this study, we contrasted the different assemblages of microbial communities between suppressive and conducive soils via the differentiation of soil particle-size fractions (PSFs). We further extracted the direct and indirect interactive associations among the soil biotic and abiotic factors by using samples from two continuous banana cropping systems. Notable differences were shown in PSF composition, biological traits (microbial communities and enzyme patterns) and physiochemical parameters between suppressive and conducive soils among the different soil fractions. For example, compared with conducive soils, suppressive soils have higher nutrient contents, fungal abundance and diversity and enzyme activities, and the extent of these differences was explored for fractions of different sizes. Moreover, the microbial taxonomic composition strongly varied between disease-suppressive and disease-conducive soils. For instance, there were significant differences in the relative abundance among key microbiology communities, such as Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Proteobacteria and Ascomycota, especially for antagonistic microorganisms (i.e., Streptomyces, Pseudomonas, Trichoderma, etc.) across various soil fractions. In addition, structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that the complex associations among soil PSFs, physiochemical parameters and microbial communities were mediated by multiple pathways, which then drive the soil enzyme activities and may further influence the suppressiveness of the soil. These results demonstrate that the resident microbial communities in specific soil particles may play a crucial role in the development of soil suppressiveness against banana Fusarium wilt disease

    Interfacial Bonding Energy on the Interface between ZChSnSb/Sn Alloy Layer and Steel Body at Microscale

    To investigate the performance of bonding on the interface between ZChSnSb/Sn and steel body, the interfacial bonding energy on the interface of a ZChSnSb/Sn alloy layer and the steel body with or without Sn as an intermediate layer was calculated under the same loadcase using the molecular dynamics simulation software Materials Studio by ACCELRYS, and the interfacial bonding energy under different Babbitt thicknesses was compared. The results show that the bonding energy of the interface with Sn as an intermediate layer is 10% larger than that of the interface without a Sn layer. The interfacial bonding performances of Babbitt and the steel body with Sn as an intermediate layer are better than those of an interface without a Sn layer. When the thickness of the Babbitt layer of bushing is 17.143 Γ…, the interfacial bonding energy reaches the maximum, and the interfacial bonding performance is optimum. These findings illustrate the bonding mechanism of the interfacial structure from the molecular level so as to ensure the good bonding properties of the interface, which provides a reference for the improvement of the bush manufacturing process from the microscopic point of view
