In the title bis-tolane derivative, C29H24O2, the central benzene ring forms dihedral angles of 29.12 (9) and 26.46 (9)° with the other two benzene rings. The dihedral angle between two terminal benzene rings is 55.58 (8)°
Application of the indirect fluorescent antibody assay in the study of malaria infection in the Yangtze River Three Gorges Reservoir, China

Abstract

Background

China Yangtze Three Gorges Project (TGP) is one of the biggest construction projects in the world. The areas around the Three Gorge Dam has a history of tertian malaria and subtertian malaria epidemic, but there are no overall data about malaria epidemics before the completion of the project. The objective of this study was to get a reliable baseline on malaria infection in the Yangtze River Three Gorges reservoir area and to provide reference data for future studies about the impact of the project on malaria epidemics.

Methods

Two surveys of malaria infection were carried out in area, at six-month intervals in May and October 2008. About 3,600 dual specimens blood film samples for parasite diagnosis and filter paper blood spots for serology (using the immunofluorescence antibody test) were collected from the general population, including school populations, whenever possible.

Results

The overall percentage of positive response of the same population during post-transmission periods was about twice (1.40/0.72) of that in pre-transmission. Positive individuals under 15 years of age were detected in all the localities.

Conclusion

A certain extent of malaria infection existed in this area. Additional studies are needed to determine the length of malaria experience, and chemotherapeutic intervention as well as the distribution of main vectors for transmission in this area.</p
Effect of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on the Smad expression of hepatic fibrosis rats
AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the impact of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on Smad expression of hepatic fibrosis rats.MethodsA total of 48 adult female SD rats were randomly divided into three groups, normal control group (n=10), observation group (n=19) with liver fibrosis model rats injected with BMSCs cells; model group (n=19), with liver fibrosis model rats injected with physiological saline. Serum index, TGF-β1 and Smad expression were detected.ResultsType III procollagen, IV collagen, hyaluronic acid, laminin levels of observation group were significantly lower than those of model group (P<0.05). The content and expression of TGF-β1 in serum and liver tissue of observation group were significantly lower than those of model group(P<0.05). Compared with normal control group, the Smad3, Smad4 mRNA and protein expression of model group were significantly increased, the Smad7 mRNA and protein expression were significantly reduced (P<0.05). Compared with model group, Smad3, Smad4 mRNA and protein expression of observation group were significantly reduced, and Smad7 mRNA expression were significantly increased (P<0.05).ConclusionsBMSCs can regulate Smad expression to some extent, and reduce the degree of liver fibrosis
Interaction Embeddings for Prediction and Explanation in Knowledge Graphs
Knowledge graph embedding aims to learn distributed representations for
entities and relations, and is proven to be effective in many applications.
Crossover interactions --- bi-directional effects between entities and
relations --- help select related information when predicting a new triple, but
haven't been formally discussed before. In this paper, we propose CrossE, a
novel knowledge graph embedding which explicitly simulates crossover
interactions. It not only learns one general embedding for each entity and
relation as most previous methods do, but also generates multiple triple
specific embeddings for both of them, named interaction embeddings. We evaluate
embeddings on typical link prediction tasks and find that CrossE achieves
state-of-the-art results on complex and more challenging datasets. Furthermore,
we evaluate embeddings from a new perspective --- giving explanations for
predicted triples, which is important for real applications. In this work, an
explanation for a triple is regarded as a reliable closed-path between the head
and the tail entity. Compared to other baselines, we show experimentally that
CrossE, benefiting from interaction embeddings, is more capable of generating
reliable explanations to support its predictions.Comment: This paper is accepted by WSDM201

A Semi-supervised Graph Attentive Network for Financial Fraud Detection
With the rapid growth of financial services, fraud detection has been a very
important problem to guarantee a healthy environment for both users and
providers. Conventional solutions for fraud detection mainly use some
rule-based methods or distract some features manually to perform prediction.
However, in financial services, users have rich interactions and they
themselves always show multifaceted information. These data form a large
multiview network, which is not fully exploited by conventional methods.
Additionally, among the network, only very few of the users are labelled, which
also poses a great challenge for only utilizing labeled data to achieve a
satisfied performance on fraud detection.
To address the problem, we expand the labeled data through their social
relations to get the unlabeled data and propose a semi-supervised attentive
graph neural network, namedSemiGNN to utilize the multi-view labeled and
unlabeled data for fraud detection. Moreover, we propose a hierarchical
attention mechanism to better correlate different neighbors and different
views. Simultaneously, the attention mechanism can make the model interpretable
and tell what are the important factors for the fraud and why the users are
predicted as fraud. Experimentally, we conduct the prediction task on the users
of Alipay, one of the largest third-party online and offline cashless payment
platform serving more than 4 hundreds of million users in China. By utilizing
the social relations and the user attributes, our method can achieve a better
accuracy compared with the state-of-the-art methods on two tasks. Moreover, the
interpretable results also give interesting intuitions regarding the tasks.Comment: icd
Passive Removal of Silicone Oil with Temporal Head Position through Two 23-Gauge Cannulas
Purpose. To report a new approach for removal of silicone oil. Methods. All surgeries were performed using 23-gauge vitrectomy system with two transconjunctival sutureless cannulas. At the beginning, most of the silicone oil was removed by traditional microinvasive vitrectomy system through inferior-temporal cannula. Then, the blood transfusion tube is removed from the inferior-temporal cannula, and the fluid-air exchange is performed. A passive fluid-air exchange was performed to aspirate the residual silicone oil after gradually turning the patient’s head temporally by approximately 90° gradually. Results. After the surgery, all patients had a clear anterior chamber and vitreous cavity on slit lamp and B scan examination, respectively. The mean time taken for silicone oil removal and total surgery was 8.0±1.4 minutes and 12.4±2.5 minutes, respectively. The mean intraocular pressure 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery was 9.0±5.8 mmHg, 11.3±7.6 mmHg, 16.1±6.9 mmHg, 17.7±4.8 mmHg, and 17.1±3.5 mmHg, respectively. Conclusion. This new approach may provide a safe and fast method to remove the silicone oil

Directed formation of tri-connected Cu(I) coordination polymers
Natural Science Foundation of China [21125102, 21021061]Two new tri-connected copper(I) coordination polymers have been synthesized, featuring a 1D staircase-like structure and an interpenetrating 2D polycyclohexane framework. The geometries are controlled by steric factors that are generated from the terminal blocking ligand 2-diphenylphosphino-n-methyl pyridine (n = 3, 6) with the methyl group at different substituted positions
