Alcohol Use, Abuse, and Dependency in Shanghai

    Get PDF
The use of alcohol for social and ceremonial occasions was recorded in Chinese history as early as 1760 B.C. during the Yin Dynasty (Ci-Hai Encyclopedia, 1979:936). The cultural tradition of ancient China placed alcoholic beverages at the center of social occasions, which presumably was the origin of the adage: Without wine, there is no li (or etiquette). Thus, the use of alcoholic beverages has always been accompanied by the concept of propriety and the discharging of one\u27s role obligations m social functions, rather than that of personal indulgence

Multiple magnetoplasmon polaritons of magneto-optical graphene in near-field radiative heat transfer

Graphene, as a two-dimensional magneto-optical material, supports magnetoplasmon polaritons (MPP) when exposed to an applied magnetic field. Recently, MPP of a single-layer graphene has shown an excellent capability in the modulation of near-field radiative heat transfer (NFRHT). In this study, we present a comprehensive theoretical analysis of NFRHT between two multilayered graphene structures, with a particular focus on the multiple MPP effect. We reveal the physical mechanism and evolution law of the multiple MPP, and we demonstrate that the multiple MPP allow one to mediate, enhance, and tune the NFRHT by appropriately engineering the properties of graphene, the number of graphene sheets, the intensity of magnetic fields, as well as the geometric structure of systems. We show that the multiple MPP have a quite significant distinction relative to the single MPP or multiple surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in terms of modulating and manipulating NFRHT

Phase-resolved spectral analysis of 4U 1901+03 during its outburst

The high mass X-ray binary 4U 1901+03 was reported to have the pulse profile evolving with the X-ray luminosity and energy during its outburst in February-July 2003: the pulse peak changed from double to single along with the decreasing luminosity. We have carried out a detailed analysis on the contemporary phase-resolved energy spectrum of 4U 1901+03 as observed by Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). We find that, both the continuum and the pulse spectra are phase dependent. The optical depth derived from the pulse spectrum is in general larger than that from the continuum. Fe Ka emission line is only detected in the spectrum of the continuum and is missing in the pulse spectrum. This suggests an origin of Fe emission from the accretion disk but not the surface of the neutron star.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, accepted by Ap

The title compound, C14H10Br2N2O2, was synthesized by the reaction of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde with an equimolar quantity of 3-bromobenzohydrazide in methanol. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 10.5 (4)°. In the crystal structure, molecules are linked through intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form chains parallel to the c axis, and an intramolecular O—H⋯N interaction also occurs
