Research on the Service of University Smart Library in Smart Society
With the gradual advancement of the construction of smart society, how to respond to the urgent needs of social development for knowledge services under the new situation is an important topic in the construction of smart libraries. This paper expounds the essential characteristics of knowledge production in smart society and the development of knowledge service concept of Smart Library, analyzes the characteristics of knowledge production mode in smart society from the perspective of knowledge production, and discusses the development trend of knowledge service mode of University Smart Library and the way to realize the transformation of knowledge service mode
Endophytic Beauveria bassiana promotes plant biomass growth and suppresses pathogen damage by directional recruitment
IntroductionEntomopathogenic fungi (EPF) can colonize and establish symbiotic relationships with plants as endophytes. Recently, EPF have been reported to suppress plant pathogens and induce plant resistance to diseases. However, the potential mechanisms via which EPF as endophytes control major plant diseases in situ remain largely unknown.MethodsPot and field experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanisms via which an EPF, Beauveria bassiana, colonizes tomato, under Botrytis cinerea infection stress. B. bassiana blastospores were inoculated into tomato plants by root irrigation. Tomato resistance to tomato gray mold caused by B. cinerea was evaluated by artificial inoculation, and B. bassiana colonization in plants and rhizosphere soil under B. cinerea infection stress was evaluated by colony counting and quantitative PCR. Furthermore, the expression levels of three disease resistance-related genes (OXO, CHI, and atpA) in tomato leaves were determined to explore the effect of B. bassiana colonization on plant disease resistance performance in pot experiments.ResultsB. bassiana colonization could improve resistance of tomato plants to gray mold caused by B. cinerea. The incidence rate, lesion diameter, and disease index of gray mold decreased in both the pot and field experiments following B. bassiana colonization. B. bassiana was more likely to accumulate in the pathogen infected leaves, while decreasing in the rhizosphere soil, and induced the expression of plant resistance genes, which were up-regulated in leaves.DiscussionThe results indicated that plants could “recruit” B. bassiana from rhizosphere soil to diseased plants as directional effects, which then enhanced plant growth and resistance against pathogens, consequently inhibiting pathogen infection and multiplication in plants. Our findings provide novel insights that enhance our understanding of the roles of EPF during pathogen challenge
Magnetic ordering and structural phase transitions in strained ultrathin SrRuO/SrTiO superlattice
Ruthenium-based perovskite systems are attractive because their Structural,
electronic and magnetic properties can be systematically engineered.
SrRuO/SrTiO superlattice, with its period consisting of one unit cell
each, is very sensitive to strain change. Our first-principles simulations
reveal that in the high tensile strain region, it transits from a ferromagnetic
(FM) metal to an antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulator with clear tilted octahedra,
while in the low strain region, it is a ferromagnetic metal without octahedra
tilting. Detailed analyses of three spin-down Ru-t orbitals just below
the Fermi level reveal that the splitting of these orbitals underlies these
dramatic phase transitions, with the rotational force constant of RuO
octahedron high up to 16 meV/Deg, 4 times larger than that of TiO.
Differently from nearly all the previous studies, these transitions can be
probed optically through the diagonal and off-diagonal dielectric tensor
elements. For one percent change in strain, our experimental spin moment change
is -0.140.06 , quantitatively consistent with our theoretical value

The association between serum total folic acid concentration and severe difficulty falling asleep in US adults: NHANES 2005–2008
ObjectiveThe present study aimed to explore the correlation of serum total folic acid concentration with severe difficulty falling asleep among US adults.MethodsCross-sectional data were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2006 and 2007 to 2008 cycles. Participants were divided into the severe difficulty falling asleep (SDFA) group and the control group according to the monthly frequency of having difficulty falling asleep. Serum total folic acid was taken as independent and dependent variables, respectively. The correlation of serum total folic acid concentration with severe difficulty falling asleep was examined using multivariable logistic regression models, where the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidential intervals (CIs) were calculated.ResultsOverall, 8,926 individuals from the NHANES 2005 to 2006 and 2007 to 2008 waves were included in the analysis, of whom 683 participants had severe difficulty falling asleep. Higher serum total folic acid concentration (ng/ml) was associated with lower odds of severe difficulty falling asleep after adjusting for potentially confounding factors (OR = 0.98; 95% CI: 0.97–1.00), while participants at the highest quartile had the least odds of severe difficulty falling asleep (OR = 0.55; 95% CI: 0.40–0.74). The subgroup analysis based on gender, smoking history, and diabetes showed that this negative correlation was more significant in males, smokers, and nondiabetic population after adjusting for confounding factors.ConclusionHigh levels of serum folic acid were significantly related to less odds of severe difficulty in falling asleep among US adults, suggesting that folic acid supplementation may be beneficial to the prevention and even treatment of severe difficulty falling asleep
Group membership and adolescents’ third-party punishment: a moderated chain mediation model
Third-party punishment (TPP) reflects people’s social preference for fairness norms and is fundamental to maintaining fairness norms on a large scale. Several empirical studies have shown that the offender’s group membership impacts TPP, but the detailed mechanisms have yet to be fully elucidated. The current study used the third-party punishment game task to explore the relationship between group membership, perceived unfairness, anger, and adolescents’ TPP. A total of 306 teenagers aged 12 to 15 were chosen as subjects through cluster sampling. The results showed that group membership (classmate vs. stranger) and gender can affect adolescents’ TPP together, which manifests as adolescents enacting significantly harsher punishments on strangers than on classmates, especially for boys. Group membership indirectly affects TPP through the mediating effects of perceived unfairness, anger and through a chain mediation of perceived unfairness and anger. Moreover, gender positively moderate the relationship between group membership and perceived unfairness. Specifically, group membership significantly affects boys’ perceived unfairness, but cannot predict girls’ perceived unfairness. The above results can be used to guide adolescents toward appropriate justice concepts and moral awareness, thus enhancing TPP
The link between diabetic retinal and renal microvasculopathy is associated with dyslipidemia and upregulated circulating level of cytokines
PurposeTo investigate the mechanisms underlying the correlations between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic nephropathy (DKD) and examine whether circulating cytokines and dyslipidemia contribute to both DR and DKD in patients with 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsA total of 122 patients with T2DM were enrolled and categorized into the DM group (without no DR and DKD), DR group [non-proliferative DR (NPDR), and proliferative DR (PDR)] with no DKD), DR complicated with DKD groups (DR+DKD group). The biochemical profile, including fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid profile were estimated, and plasma inflammatory and angiogenic cytokines [monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A, C, D, and placental growth factor (PlGF)] were analyzed by protein microarrays. The atherogenic plasma index (API) was defined as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)/high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C); atherogenic index (AI) was calculated as [(total cholesterol (TC) -HDL-C)/HDL-C], and atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) was defined as log (TG/HDL-C).ResultsBy multivariable disordered regression analysis, after controlling for duration of DM and hypertension, LDL-C (p = 0.019) and VEGF-D (p = 0.029) resulted as independent risk factors for DR. Albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) (p = 0.003) was an independent risk factor for DR with DKD. In DR, NPDR, and PDR groups, grades of A1, A2, and A3 of albuminuria increased with the severity of DR. In A1, A2, and A3 grade groups, the severity of DR (DM, NPDR, and PDR) increased with higher albuminuria grades. Kendall's tau-b correlation coefficient analysis revealed that FBG (p = 0.019), circulating level of PlGF (p = 0.002), and VEGF-D (p = 0.008) were significantly positively correlated with the grades of uACR (p < 0.001), and uACR grades were significantly correlated with DR severity (p < 0.001).ConclusionsThe occurrence and severity of DR are closely correlated with kidney dysfunction. Among the three kidney functional parameters, uACR resulted as the better indicator of DR severity and progression than glomerular filtration (eGFR) and serum creatinine (Scr). Impaired FBG was associated with microalbuminuria, emphasizing that well-controlled FBG is important for both DR and DKD. Dickeya fangzhongdai was prevalent and caused taro soft rot when coexisting with the Pectobacterium complex, with a preference for Araceae plants
Bacterial soft rot caused by coinfection with Dickeya spp. and Pectobacterium spp. in hosts can cause successive changes in fields, and it is difficult to prevent the spread of and control the infection. Pectobacterium spp. are prevalent in the growing areas of tuberous crops, including taro and potato. Recently, Dickeya fangzhongdai has emerged as a virulent pathogen in taro. To determine the prevalence status of the causal agents and evaluate the potential spreading risks of D. fangzhongdai, screening and taxonomic classification were performed on phytopathogenic bacteria collected from different taro-growing areas in Guangdong Province, China, and biological and genomic characteristics were further compared among typical strains from all defined species. The causative agents were verified to be phytobacterial strains of D. fangzhongdai, Pectobacterium aroidearum and Pectobacterium colocasium. P. aroidearum and P. colocasium were found to form a complex preferring Araceae plants and show intensive genomic differentiation, indicating their ancestor had adapted to taro a long time prior. Compared with Pectobacterium spp., D. fangzhongdai was more virulent to taro corms under conditions of exogenous infection and more adaptable at elevated temperatures. D. fangzhongdai strains isolated from taro possessed genomic components of additional T4SSs, which were accompanied by additional copies of the hcp-vgrG genes of the T6SS, and these contributed to the expansion of their genomes. More gene clusters encoding secondary metabolites were found within the D. fangzhongdai strains than within the Pectobacterium complex; interestingly, distinct gene clusters encoding zeamine and arylpolyene were both most similar to those in D. solani that caused potato soft rot. These comparisons provided genomic evidences for that the newly emerging pathogen was potentially equipped to compete with other pathogens. Diagnostic qPCR verified that D. fangzhongdai was prevalent in most of the taro-growing areas and coexisted with the Pectobacterium complex, while the plants enriching D. fangzhongdai were frequently symptomatic at developing corms and adjacent pseudostems and caused severe symptoms. Thus, the emerging need for intensive monitoring on D. fangzhongdai to prevent it from spreading to other taro-growing areas and to other tuberous crops like potato; the adjustment of control strategies based on different pathopoiesis characteristics is recommended
Experimental observation of non-Abelian earring nodal links in phononic crystals
Nodal lines are symmetry-protected one-dimensional band degeneracies in
momentum space, which can appear in numerous topological configurations such as
nodal rings, chains, links, and knots. Very recently, non-Abelian topological
physics has been proposed in space-time inversion (PT) symmetric systems, and
attract widespread attention. One of the most special configurations in
non-Abelian system is the earring nodal link, composing of a nodal chain
linking with an isolated nodal line, is signature of non-Abelian topology and
cannot be elucidated using Abelian topological classifications. However, the
earring nodal links have not been yet observed in real system. Here we design
the phononic crystals with earring nodal links, and verify its non-Abelian
topologicial charge in full-wave simulations. Moreover, we experimentally
observed two different kinds of earring nodal links by measuring the band
structures for two phononic crystals. Specifically, we found that the order of
the nodal chain and line can switch after band inversion but their link cannot
be severed. Our work provides experimental evidence for phenomena unique to
non-Abelian band topology and our simple acoustic system provides a convenient
platform for studying non-Abelian charges.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
Training semantic long-term memory retrieval transfers to executive function and reading fluency
The retrieval of information from long-term memory is a fundamental cognitive ability, crucial for most aspects of successful human functioning. Whether and how long-term memory retrieval (LTMR) can be improved with training has clear societal importance but also theoretical value for furthering our understanding of underlying mechanisms. Here, we provide electrophysiological evidence for the plasticity of semantic LTMR. Thirty-five university students were randomly assigned to adaptive semantic LTMR training (using a Posner task) or to a non-adaptive version of the training. Before and after training they were assessed on measures of semantic LTMR, working memory, central executive function (interference control, switching), reading fluency, and fluid intelligence. Adaptive LTMR training (relative to non-adaptive training) led to significant improvements in semantic LTMR. The intervention group (in contrast to the control group) also showed a significant reduction in the mean amplitude of the N400 ERP component and 700–1000 ms measured during a semantic LTMR task, suggesting that changes in retrieval occurred at an early/automatic point and retrieval processing in semantic processing. Moreover, transfer effects were observed for switching, working memory and reading fluency, but not for interference control or fluid intelligence. These results point to the plasticity of semantic LTMR, and suggest that improvement in this ability can transfer to other domains for which LTMR is key
