    Hydrodynamic Performance of Open-frame Deep Sea Remotely Operated Vehicles Based on Computational Fluid Dynamics Method

    The resistance performance and motion stability of deep sea remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) subjected to underwater motion conditions are studied on the basis of the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes method combined with the six-degree-of-freedom equation of motion to quickly and accurately predict them. In the modeling process, we consider the complexity of ROV geometry and thus reduce the model to a series of regular geometries to maximize the position and weight of the original components. The grid and value slots of an ROV are divided, and the surface is reconstructed. The forward, backward, transverse, floating, and submerged resistance of ROVs are simulated and compared with existing experimental forces to determine the accuracy of the calculation method. Then, the oblique navigation of the ROV on the horizontal and vertical planes is studied. Furthermore, the motion response of the ROV to direct horizontal motion, heave, pitch, and yaw are studied. The force, moment, and motion time curves are obtained. The stability of ROV motion is analyzed to provide technical support for the safety of ROVs

    Changes in snow depth under elevation‐dependent warming over the Tibetan Plateau

    Abstract Snow plays an essential role in regulating climate change, the hydrological cycle, and various biological processes. Passive microwave snow depth data and gridded data from the Climate Research Unit (CRU_TS4.04) are utilized in this study to investigate spatiotemporal variations of snow depth over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), with special focus on the vertical dimension. The response of snow to elevation‐dependent warming (EDW) is determined accordingly. High mountains experience more rapid warming than lower elevations. During 1980–2014, the total snow depth over the TP decreased; areas with the most significant decreasing trends are mainly concentrated in the northwestern and southwestern parts of the TP. The plateau‐wide decrease in snow depth (−0.24 cm/decade) is mainly affected by increasing temperature (0.30°C/decade). The reduction in snow depth trend intensifies as sub‐regional mean elevation increases from 3,332 m (IID2) to 5,074 m (ID1). A stronger snow depth decrease in high‐elevation sub‐regions generally corresponds to higher warming rates, which demonstrates EDW. The most pronounced correlation between snow depth decrease rate and elevation occurs in the southeastern TP, which covers the largest elevation range on the plateau (from 2,000 to 6,000 m)

    Inhibition of Endothelial Cell Proliferation and Tumor Angiogenesis by Up-Regulating NDRG2 Expression in Breast Cancer Cells

    The N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2) is involved in tumor cell differentiation and apoptosis, but its function in tumor angiogenesis remains to be established. Here, we employed adenovirus overexpressing NDRG2 (Ad-NDRG2) to efficiently up-regulate target gene expression in the NDRG2-low-expressing, breast cancer cell line MCF-7. Moreover, VEGF secretion was decreased in MCF-7 cells infected by Ad-NDRG2, and medium conditioned by these infected cells could significantly inhibit the proliferation, tube formation and invasion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Further study indicated that the angiogenesis promoting factors VEGF and HIF-1α were down-regulated, whereas the angiogenesis suppressing factors p53 and VHL were up-regulated in MCF-7 cells infected by Ad-NDRG2. Finally, in a nude mouse model, intratumoral injections of Ad-NDRG2 every 3 days for 20 days significantly inhibited the growth and angiogenesis of xenografted MCF-7 tumors. In summary, these data indicate that NDRG2 may be involved in angiogenesis by impacting the expression of angiogenesis related factors. Thus, specific overexpression of NDRG2 by adenovirus represents a promising approach for the treatment of tumor angiogenesis

    Does the aura surrounding healthy-related imported products fade in China? ERP evidence for the country-of-origin stereotype.

    Chinese consumers' craze about imported products, especially foods and drugs, peaked after various safety incidents, such as the contamination of Chinese dairy products. Recently, this boom has gradually receded because of the constant quality problems of imported products and the stricter safety supervision of domestic products. Researchers have measured consumer's perception toward domestic and imported products in various ways. In the current research, we investigated whether the country-of-origin stereotype has weakened in Chinese young consumers at the neurological level. By using a word-pair paradigm, 21 young participants were required to classify positive or negative words while event-related potentials were recorded. The results showed that reaction time to identify negative words following presentation of imported products (imported-negative condition) was longer than domestic products (domestic-negative condition). The amplitudes of N270 and LPP evoked in the imported-negative condition were significantly larger than those in the domestic-negative condition, possibly reflecting the higher expectation conflict when participate identified the adjectives as negative primed by imported healthy-related products. These findings revealed that young Chinese consumers still evaluated imported products better than domestic products

While China’s corn production is mainly used for domestic consumption, policy changes in China’s corn markets have trade implications for the global corn, beef, and pork sectors.</p

    Robust Speed Tracking Control for Future Electric Vehicles under Network-Induced Delay and Road Slope Variation

    Integrated motor-transmission (IMT) powertrain systems are widely used in future electric vehicles due to the advantages of their simple structure configuration and high controllability. In electric vehicles, precise speed tracking control is critical to ensure good gear shifting quality of an IMT powertrain system. However, the speed tracking control design becomes challenging due to the inevitable time delay of signal transmission introduced by the in-vehicle network and unknown road slope variation. Moreover, the system parameter uncertainties and signal measurement noise also increase the difficulty for the control algorithm. To address these issues, in this paper a robust speed tracking control strategy for electric vehicles with an IMT powertrain system is proposed. A disturbance observer and low-pass filter are developed to decrease the side effect from the unknown road slope variation and measurement noise and reduce the estimation error of the external load torque. Then, the network-induced delay speed tracking model is developed and is upgraded considering the damping coefficient uncertainties of the IMT powertrain system, which can be described through the norm-bounded uncertainty reduction method. To handle the network-induced delay and parameter uncertainties, a novel and less-conservative Lyapunov function is proposed to design the robust speed tracking controller by the linear matrix inequality (LMI) algorithm. Meanwhile, the estimation error and measurement noise are considered as the external disturbances in the controller design to promote robustness. Finally, the results demonstrate that the proposed controller has the advantages of strong robustness, excellent speed tracking performance, and ride comfort over the current existing controllers

    Seasonal and Regional Variability of Long-Wave Effective Radiation in China and Associated Modulating Factors

    Variations in all-sky and clear-sky long-wave effective radiation (LER) in China during the period 2001–2016 were determined using monthly radiative datasets from the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES). Annual and seasonal spatial distributions are found to be quite similar and show a decreasing trend from northwest to southeast, although highest values are found in spring. Mean LER under clear-sky conditions is approximately 20–30 Wm−2 higher than that under all-sky conditions. There is a consistent downward trend in annual and seasonal variations of LER under different weather conditions in China especially after 2007. In northwest China, the eastern Tibetan Plateau, and southeast and northeast China, LER is significantly reduced in two weather conditions and this is more pronounced in spring. However, decreases in clear-sky LER are more obvious. Empirical orthogonal function (EOF) results for LER differences between all-sky conditions and clear-sky conditions were used to analyze regional characteristics and modulating factors. The first mode shows that the LER differences of two weather conditions over China become larger and significant after 2007. The second mode reflects the spatial characteristics, and four climate regions are divided according to the second pattern. According to the definition of LER, regression analysis shows that downward long-wave radiation has a greater influence on LER. When considering cloud effects and other modulating factors, LER has higher correlation with relative humidity in climate regions 3 and 4. However, there are higher negative correlations with middle and high clouds in regions 1 and 2, which are modulated by cloud characteristics. When these factors influence LER together, their correlation is significant in all regions (correlation coefficients are on average higher than 0.7). In summary, changes of LER can well reflect the change of climate system
