    The crystal of the title compound, (C22H22N2)[ZnCl4], consists of 2,2′-(butane-1,4-di­yl)diisoquinolinium organic cations and [ZnCl4]2− complex anions. The cation is located across a twofold axis and the ZnII atom of the anion is located on the other twofold axis. The centroid–centroid distance between parallel pyridine rings of neighboring mol­ecules is 3.699 (3) Å, but the face-to-face separation of 3.601 (3) Å suggests there is no significant π–π stacking in the crystal structure

    In-Vitro Study on the Antibacterial and Antioxidant Activity of Four Commercial Essential Oils and In-Situ Evaluation of Their Effect on Quality Deterioration of Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) during Cold Storage

    The antioxidant and antibacterial properties of four essential oils (oregano essential oil (OEO), tea tree essential oil (TTEO), wild orange essential oil (WOEO), and clove leaf essential oil (CLEO)) were determined. The in-vitro experiment indicated that CLEO had the highest total phenolic content and DPPH scavenging activity, and OEO displayed the highest antibacterial effect, so they were applied to maintain the quality of shrimp for further study. In-situ study, the total viable counts of shrimp were inhibited from 9.05 log CFU/g to 8.18 and 8.34 log CFU/g by 2% of OEO and CLEO treated alone on 10 d. The melanosis ratio was also retarded from 38.16% to 28.98% and 26.35% by the two essential oils. The inhibitory effects of OEO and CLEO on the increase of PPO activity, weight loss, and TCA-soluble peptides, and the decreasing tendency of whiteness, the contents of myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic proteins were also founded. The samples treated with 1% OEO + 1% CLEO had better quality than those treated alone. Therefore, the combination of OEO and CLEO had a synergistic effect, which displayed the highest efficiency to prevent the melanosis, bacterial growth, and protein hydrolysis of shrimp.Peer reviewe

    Effects of Modified Atmosphere Packaging with Varied CO2 and O2 Concentrations on the Texture, Protein, and Odor Characteristics of Salmon during Cold Storage

    The effect of gas ratio on the growth of bacteria has been well demonstrated, but some adverse effects of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on seafoods have also been found. To provide a better understanding of the effects of CO2 and O2 concentrations (CO2 from 40% to 100% and O2 from 0% to 30%) in MAP on the texture and protein contents and odor characteristics of salmon during cold storage, the physiochemical, microbial, and odor indicators were compared with those without treatment (CK). Generally, MAP treatments hindered the increase of microbial counts, total volatile basic nitrogen, and TCA-soluble peptides, and decreased the water-holding capacity, hardness, springiness, and sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar protein contents. The results also indicated that 60%CO2/10%O2/30%N2 was optimal and decreased the total mesophilic bacterial counts by 2.8 log cfu/g in comparison with CK on day 12. In agreement, the concentration of CO2 of 60% showed the lowest myofibrillar protein degradation, and less subsequent loss of hardness. The electronic nose characteristics analysis indicated that 60%CO2/20%O2/20%N2 and 60%CO2/10%O2/30%N2 had the best effect to maintain the original odor profiles of salmon. The correlation analysis demonstrated that microbial growth had a strong relationship with myofibrillar and sarcoplasmic protein content. It can be concluded that 60%CO2/10%O2/30%N2 displayed the best effect to achieve the goal of preventing protein degradation and odor changes in salmon fillets

    Effects of immersing treatment of curcumin and piperine combined with vacuum packaging on the quality of salmon (Salmo salar) during cold chain logistics

    In order to study the effects of the compound preservatives (curcumin and piperine (CP)) and vacuum packaging (VP) on the quality of salmon during cold chain logistics suffered from temperature abuse, the physiochemical indexes (texture, water holding capacity (WHC), total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), free amino acids (FAA) contents), microbial indicators (total mesophilic bacteria count (MBC), total psychrotrophic bacteria count (PBC), H2S-producing bacteria count (HSBC)) were determined, and the moisture changes were explored by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR). The results showed that the treatment of curcumin and piperine in combination with vacuum packaging could maintain the quality of salmon suffered from temperature abuse most effectively. At the end of storage, the MBC of VP+CP was only 4.95 log CFU/g, which was about 1 log CFU/g lower than the control sample stored at the same condition. The combined treatment also retarded the increase of TVB-N, TBARS, and the decrease of hardness, springiness, and a* value, as well as water migration in salmon, contributing to higher water holding capacity and better appearance. Besides, VP+CP retarded the decrease of free glutamate, which contributed to umami taste. Due to the biological activity and safety of the preserves, the combined treatment could be a promising method for preservation of seafood.Peer reviewe

    Twofold Structured Features-Based Siamese Network for Infrared Target Tracking

    Nowadays, infrared target tracking has been a critical technology in the field of computer vision and has many applications, such as motion analysis, pedestrian surveillance, intelligent detection, and so forth. Unfortunately, due to the lack of color, texture and other detailed information, tracking drift often occurs when the tracker encounters infrared targets that vary in size or shape. To address this issue, we present a twofold structured features-based Siamese network for infrared target tracking. First of all, in order to improve the discriminative capacity for infrared targets, a novel feature fusion network is proposed to fuse both shallow spatial information and deep semantic information into the extracted features in a comprehensive manner. Then, a multi-template update module based on template update mechanism is designed to effectively deal with interferences from target appearance changes which are prone to cause early tracking failures. Finally, both qualitative and quantitative experiments are carried out on VOT-TIR 2016 dataset, which demonstrates that our method achieves the balance of promising tracking performance and real-time tracking speed against other out-of-the-art trackers.Comment: 13 pages,9 figures,references adde

    Gene Clusters Located on Two Large Plasmids Determine Spore Crystal Association (SCA) in Bacillus thuringiensis Subsp. finitimus Strain YBT-020

    Crystals in Bacillus thuringiensis are usually formed in the mother cell compartment during sporulation and are separated from the spores after mother cell lysis. In a few strains, crystals are produced inside the exosporium and are associated with the spores after sporulation. This special phenotype, named ‘spore crystal association’ (SCA), typically occurs in B. thuringiensis subsp. finitimus. Our aim was to identify genes determining the SCA phenotype in B. thuringiensis subsp. finitimus strain YBT-020. Plasmid conjugation experiments indicated that the SCA phenotype in this strain was tightly linked with two large plasmids (pBMB26 and pBMB28). A shuttle bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library of strain YBT-020 was constructed. Six fragments from BAC clones were screened from this library and discovered to cover the full length of pBMB26; four others were found to cover pBMB28. Using fragment complementation testing, two fragments, each of approximately 35 kb and located on pBMB26 and pBMB28, were observed to recover the SCA phenotype in an acrystalliferous mutant, B. thuringiensis strain BMB171. Furthermore, deletion analysis indicated that the crystal protein gene cry26Aa from pBMB26, along with five genes from pBMB28, were indispensable to the SCA phenotype. Gene disruption and frame-shift mutation analyses revealed that two of the five genes from pBMB28, which showed low similarity to crystal proteins, determined the location of crystals inside the exosporium. Gene disruption revealed that the three remaining genes, similar to spore germination genes, contributed to the stability of the SCA phenotype in strain YBT-020. Our results thus identified the genes determining the SCA phenotype in B. thuringiensis subsp. finitimus

    The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C24H26N2)[ZnCl4], consists of two 2,2′-(hexane-1,6-di­yl)diisoquinolinium cations and two [ZnCl4]2− complex anions. The [ZnCl4]2− anions have a distorted tetra­hedral geometry. The dihedral angles between the isoquinoline rings of the two cations are nearly equal [16.1 (2) and 16.3 (2)°]. In the crystal structure, the ordered linear formation is aggregated by weak inter­molecular π–π stacking inter­actions between neighboring isoquinoline pyridine rings with a centroid–centroid distance of 3.779 (4) Å

    In order to explore an environmental removal method of grain mycotoxins and to overcome the problem of poor stability of biodegradation method, the Tibetan yeast strains were selected as the research object, and the strains with better degradation effects on zearalenone (ZEN) were screened to explore the functions and mechanisms in this study.The results showed that Tibet Rhodotorula mucilaginosa had a good degradation effect on ZEN, and the degradation effect gradually improved with the increase of the bacterial concentration.Through the evaluation of the toxin removal effect of different yeast treatment solutions, it was found that the removal mechanism of the yeast on ZEN was mainly adsorption, accompanied by a certain degree of intracellular biodegradation.The degradation products of ZEN were determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.It was found that the degradation products may be zearalenol and zearalenone, and the safety of the degradation products needed further verification.The stress tolerance test of Tibet R.mucilaginosa showed that it had a certain tolerance to low temperature and oxidative stress
