    Experimental Construction of Optical Multi-qubit Cluster States From Bell States

    Cluster states serve as the central physical resource for the measurement-based quantum computation. We here present a simple experimental demonstration of the scalable cluster-state-construction scheme proposed by Browne and Rudolph. In our experiment, three-photon cluster states are created from two Bell states using linear optical devices. By observing a violation of three-particle Mermin inequality of =3.10±0.03|| = 3.10\pm0.03 , we also for the first time report a genuine three-photon entanglement. In addition, the entanglement properties of the cluster states are examined under σz\sigma_z and σx\sigma_x measurements on a qubit.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitte

    On the geometry of tensor network states

    We answer a question of L. Grasedyck that arose in quantum information theory, showing that the limit of tensors in a space of tensor network states need not be a tensor network state. We also give geometric descriptions of spaces of tensor networks states corresponding to trees and loops. Grasedyck's question has a surprising connection to the area of Geometric Complexity Theory, in that the result is equivalent to the statement that the boundary of the Mulmuley-Sohoni type variety associated to matrix multiplication is strictly larger than the projections and re-labelings of matrix multiplication.     Nitrate is not only an important nutrient but also a signaling molecule for plants. A few of key molecular components involved in primary nitrate responses have been identified mainly by forward and reverse genetics as well as systems biology, however, many underlining mechanisms of nitrate regulation remain unclear. In this study, we show that the expression of NRT1.1, which encodes a nitrate sensor and transporter (also known as CHL1 and NPF6.3), is modulated by NIN-like protein 7 (NLP7). Genetic and molecular analyses indicate that NLP7 works upstream of NRT1.1 in nitrate regulation when NH4+ is present, while in absence of NH4+, it functions in nitrate signaling independently of NRT1.1. Ectopic expression of NRT1.1 in nlp7 resulted in partial or complete restoration of nitrate signaling (expression from nitrate-regulated promoter NRP), nitrate content and nitrate reductase activity in the transgenic lines. Transcriptome analysis revealed that four nitrogen-related clusters including amino acid synthesis-related genes and members of NRT1/PTR family were modulated by both NLP7 and NRT1.1. In addition, ChIP and EMSA assays results indicated that NLP7 may bind to specific regions of the NRT1.1 promoter. Thus, NLP7 acts as an important factor in nitrate signaling via regulating NRT1.1 under NH4+ conditions

    Quantum simulation of artificial Abelian gauge field using nitrogen-vacancy center ensembles coupled to superconducting resonators

    We propose a potentially practical scheme to simulate artificial Abelian gauge field for polaritons using a hybrid quantum system consisting of nitrogen-vacancy center ensembles (NVEs) and superconducting transmission line resonators (TLR). In our case, the collective excitations of NVEs play the role of bosonic particles, and our multiport device tends to circulate polaritons in a behavior like a charged particle in an external magnetic field. We discuss the possibility of identifying signatures of the Hofstadter "butterfly" in the optical spectra of the resonators, and analyze the ground state crossover for different gauge fields. Our work opens new perspectives in quantum simulation of condensed matter and many-body physics using hybrid spin-ensemble circuit quantum electrodynamics system.
