In the present paper, we report on the occurrence of the cockroach Pycnoscelus surinamensis (Linnaeus, 1758) in Brachymyrmex cordemoyi Forel, 1895 nests, indicating a possible symbiosis between these two species. Also, the finding of intradomicile P. surinamensis nymphs may indicate this species is extending its habitat to human habitations, i.e. changing its ecological category from peridomestic to domestic. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2010.5313739Atkinson, T.H., Koehler, P.G., Patterson, R.S., Catalogue and Atlas of the cockroaches (Dictyoptera) of North America North of Mexico (1991) Misc Publ Entomol Soc Am, 78, pp. 1-86Baumholtz, M.A., Parish, L.C., Witkowski, J.A., Nutting, W.B., The medical importance of cockroaches (1997) International Journal of Dermatology, 36 (2), pp. 90-96Bragança, M.A.L., Lima, J.D., Composição, Abundância e Índice de Infestação de Espécies de Formigas em um Hospital Materno-Infantil de Palmas, TO (2010) Neotrop Entomol, 39, pp. 124-130Bell, W.J., Roth, L.M., Nalepa, C.A., (2007) Cockroaches: Ecology, Behavior, and Natural History, , The Johns Hopkins University Press, BaltimoreBolette, D.P., Descriptions of Cystacanths of Mediorhynchus orientalis and Mediorhynchus wardi (Acanthocephala: Gigantorhynchidae) (2000) Comp Parasitol, 67, pp. 114-117Bolton, B., Alpert, G., Ward, P.S., Naskrecki, P., (2006) Bolton Catalogue of Ants of the World: 1758-2005, , Harvard University Press, CambridgeCornwell, P.B., (1968) The Cockroach, , Hutchinson and Co., Ltd., LondonDelabie, J.H.C., Agosti, D., Nascimento, I.C., Litter ant communities of the Brazilian Atlantic rain forest region (2000) Sampling Ground-dwelling Ants: Case Studies from de World's Rain Forests, pp. 1-17. , Agosti D, Majer JD, Alonso L, Schultz T (eds) Bulletin 18, Curtin University School of Environmental Biology, PerthDeleporte, P., Dejean, A., Grandcolas, P., Pellens, R., Relationships between the parthenogenetic cockroach Pycnoscelus surinamensis (Dictyoptera: Blaberidae) and ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) (2002) Sociobiology, 39, pp. 259-267Deyrup, M., Fisk, F., A myrmecophilous cockroach new to the United States (Blattaria: Polyphagidae) (1984) Entomol News, 95, pp. 183-185Forattini, O.P., Rabello, E.X., Castanho, M.L.S., Pattoli, D.G.B., Aspectos ecológicos da tripanossomose americana.
