Interactions of asbestos-activated macrophages with an experimental fibrosarcoma

Supernatants from in vivo asbestos-activated macrophages failed to show any cytostatic activity against a syngeneic fibrosarcoma cell line in vitro. UICC chrysotile-induced peritoneal exudate cells also failed to demonstrate any growth inhibitory effect on the same cells in Winn assays of tumor growth. Mixing UICC crocidolite with inoculated tumor cells resulted in a dose-dependent inhibition of tumor growth; this could, however, be explained by a direct cytostatic effect on the tumor cells of high doses of crocidolite, which was observed in vitro

The possibility to decrease biological activity of chrysotile-asbestos

The paper presents a study of natural chrysotile and 15 samples modified using different temperature and pressure. The morphology, dimensions, chemical composition, crystalline structure, and technologic characteristics of the samples studied were similar. The numbers of negatively charged centers on the surface of fibers were about the same in all the samples. In two modified asbestos samples the number of positively charged centers was less than in the native one. In these samples the energy of interaction of charged centers with macromolecules of rodamin and eozin was also less than in the sample of natural chrysotile. It directly correlated with cytotoxicity and mutagenicity of them. The principal possibility to decrease the biological activity of asbestos has been discussed

Using the multiparameter method of EEG analysis with a complex study of coherent interband links with topographic mapping and localization of equivalent dipole sources of individual EEG components, characteristic signs of changes in intercentral neuronal connections at different stages of a vegetative state were obtained, features of structural and functional interrelations for patients in a vegetative state in benzodiazepine test interpretation of which identification can represent and interest for the output prediction and selection of adequate therapy.
