A study on moral values as reflected by two main characters in William Shakespeare s Macbeth

This study is concerned to find out the Elizabethan moral values which are described by Shakespeare in his play Macbeth. A deep analysis on the two main characters, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, is done to explore their moral values seen from Christianity and the perspective of moral experts. This study applies approach which take account of three disciplines literature, religion and morality. The literary analysis helps to clarify the good and bad qualities of the two characters. The religious point is applied to explore the influence of Christian moral values, in relation to Elizabethan moral values, from which the Elizabethan people are Christians. Further, morality is used to reveal whether the balance of the two characters id, ego, and super ego also give influence to their downfalls

Improving Students’ English Skill through Teaching Literature as its Unique Discourse

This study presents an analysis of the teaching literature. Approaches to literature teaching seem to be much influenced by current approaches to both language and education. There seems, however, to be a tendency to treat literature as merely another subject on the curriculum. Such a tendency has ultimately led to the neglect of features which mark literature as a discourse and an area of study demanding different techniques of description and different pedagogical approaches. Nowadays, many English teachers have left “Pattern Practice” in increasing the student’speaking ability. The reason is that they are more interested applying “Communicative Approach”. Learning from the fact, the researcher is interested in conducting a research in order to know which approach is more effective. In relation to that, the researcher uses 80 students of the third semester student of Diploma III Finance and Banking Program, University of Merdeka Malang in academic year 1999/2000 as the sample of this research. After the two classes student are taught by using “communicative approach” and those from the other two classes are taught by giving “Pattern Practice” for one semester, then they are tested in order to know their speaking ability. The result is that the average score of the “Pattern Practice” classes is better than is “Communicative Approach” classes. Furthermore, after the data analysed by using not only T-Test but also Chi-Square Test they show that they are significant. It means that the English teaching that using “Pattern Practice” more effective than that using “Communicative Approach”

How Indonesian EFL learners perceive error corrections

This study aims to obtain an in-depth understanding of error corrections in speaking from learners’ perspectives due to the fact that error corrections are often provided without considering the learners’ point of view. Although the results of the research discussing effectiveness of error corrections in speaking remain unclear, especially in an English as Foreign Language (EFL) setting, they naturally exist particularly in the process of learning and teaching EFL. To examine the EFL learners’ perceptions on corrections in speaking, nine EFL students were interviewed the effect of applying snowball sampling technique. The study meets the characteristics of qualitative research. The focus of the study is spoken error corrections, which naturally exist in an instructed Foreign Language learning situation and the researcher is the key instrument in that the researcher asks questions and interacts with the research subjects. The results of the interviews, which are audio recorded and transcribed, are analyzed to develop a descriptive model that encompasses all cases of the phenomena. The findings reveal that mispronunciation, grammatical errors, and lexical errors are important to be taken into account

The research population is all students of SMK in Malang Raya with proportional sampling random sampling technique and the total sample is 130 students. Primary data were analyzed by structural equation model. Based on the results of data analysis revealed that the learning model influences the formation of entrepreneurial intentions. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperkaya khasanah keilmuan manajemen dalam konteks kinerja inovasi. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian penjelasan dengan metode kuantitatif. Pemberdayaan Pemuda Karang Taruna Dalam Membangun Desa Wisata Melalui Pelatihan English For Guiding

Desa Mulyorejo Kecamatan Ngantang merupakan satu dari 13 desa wisata yang dikembangan di Kabupaten Malang. Desa ini memiliki potensi wisata yang tinggi diantaranya view alam yang sangat indah dan lokasinya berdekatan dengan destinasi wisata yang sudah tekenal sebelumnya yaitu Bendungan Selorejo. Terlebih lagi, posisi Desa Mulyorejo terletak pada jalur utama yang menghubungkan Malang dengan kota-kota lain seperti Kediri, Jombang, dan sebagainya, serta merupakan tempat transit baik turis lokal maupun asing. Namun demikian, karena rendahnya tingkat pendidikan termasuk kemampuan berbahasa Inggris, masyarakat belum bisa mengoptimalkan Desa Mulyorejo sebagai desa wisata. Tujuan dari Program Pengembangan Desa Mitra (PPDM) ini adalah untuk memberikan kesadaran kepada pemuda karang taruna akan pentingnya pendidikan terutama Bahasa Inggris dan memberikan pelatihan English for Guiding kepada tiga kelompok karang taruna. Metode pelaksanaan program ini mengadaptasi pola pelaksanaan penelitian tindakan (action research) yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Hasil dari program PPDM ini adalah masyarakat lebih sadar pentingnya pendidikan dan kepariwisataan dalam mengembangkan desa wisata Mulyorejo serta 77,78% anggota karang taruna yang diberi pelatihan English for Guiding bisa menyapa turis dan menjelaskan lokasi wisata di Desa Mulyorejo dalam Bahasa Inggris

The empowerment of Karang Taruna at Mulyorejo Village, Ngantang-Malang District aims to arouse awareness to youth of Karang Taruna about the importance of education. In addition, this activity aims to increase awareness of the importance of English by providing English language training for tourism to the Karang Taruna group so that they have basic knowledge and skills in English. Besides, it is hoped to be useful when dealing with foreign tourists in line with the village of Mulyorejo as a village travel. English language training for Tourism will be carried out in four stages of activities that adopt the pattern of action research, namely preparation, implementation, observation and evaluation, and reflection. The preparation stage is carried out by conducting a preliminary survey to look at the conditions in the field regarding the potential of Karang Taruna. Furthermore, the implementation includes counseling the importance of English language education and training for Tourism. In this implementation phase, various learning methods are used, namely lecture method, study tour method, and demonstration method. The third stage is observation and evaluation of activities carried out by collecting and concluding data from each stage. of the activity.
