Nitrogen K-shell photoelectron angular distribution from NO molecules in the molecular frame

    Get PDF
Molecular-frame photoelectron angular distributions (MFPADs) for NO in the nitrogen K-shell ionization regions have been measured at five photon energies 412, 413, 413.22, 414.5 and 415 eV. All experimental information on the MFPAD is encapsulated in a set of four F(JN)(theta) functions for each energy, which are compared with the results of full ab initio vibrationally averaged calculations, performed using the multichannel Schwinger configuration interaction method within the framework of the adiabatic approximation for photoionization. The major features are fairly well reproduced by the calculations

Vibration-induced suppression of valence-Rydberg mixing in the O 1s -> ns sigma Rydberg series in N2O

    Get PDF
Symmetry-resolved ion-yield spectroscopy of vibrationally excited N2O in the vicinity of the O 1s ionization threshold has been carried out using an angle-resolved ion detection technique. The spectral intensity of the O 1s-->nssigma Rydberg series, which has sigma* valence character, is significantly reduced by the excitation of the bending vibration in the electronic ground state. Using an ab initio analysis of the electronic part of the second moment , this suppression is interpreted as being due to a decrease in the mixing of the valence character in the nssigma Rydberg states with decreasing bond angle
