There has been an existing understanding in West Borneo that the word Dayak is affiliated with Christianity and/or local beliefs. The existence of the Katab Kebahan Dayak identity which is ethnically rooted from the Kebahan Dayak and religiously affiliated with Islam is unique. And it is interesting not only for further elaboration about the exceptionality of the identity of the Islam Dayak but also for public to know more about social and political policies of local government related to local culture and social changes in the region with regards to the community. The Katab Kebahan Dayak identity indicates a social identification carrying a significant factor of Dayak cultures that is very important to consider in policy making process. Therefore, the study plays a significant role in the efforts of understanding identity issues with regards to ethnicity and religiosity which are significantly interrelated in the contexts of West Borneo society, especially in Melawi District. As an ethnographic and anthropological work, this project aims at discovering a comprehensive information and knowledge and finding better explanation of the local identity construction, especially on the aspects of ethnicity and religiosity. The focus of this works is the growing of cultural awareness of the people of Katab Kebahan Dayak on the issue of ethno-religious identity of being Muslim Dayak in the contexts of Dayak as (understood) non-Muslim. This project emphasizes ethnicity and religiosity as the two significant aspects on the construction of communal identities in West Borneo, especially for Malay and Dayak ethnic groups. This work is a field research project conducted in Melawi District area employing qualitative method. The data gathering is conducted through observation

Library as a cultural product constitutes a dynamic arena in which various different actors are on the encounters. This phenomenon becomes an interesting object to research in order to understand power constellations and relations amongst library actors. That the process shows their social practice and interaction demonstrates highly contested power for ideologies in the management of Islamic university libraries in Yogyakarta. In relation to the practice and interaction amongst those actors, this research tries to find out the power representation amongst them at the library management as well as to investigate those ideologies involved in the contest and finally to show how these ideologies are contested in the library management. In doing so, the researcher employs the concepts of power by Michel Foucault, trio-concept (Habitus, Field, and Capital) by Pierre Bourdieu, and some other related theories such as ideology by Louis Althusser and culture by Raymond Williams as a conceptual framework to analyse discursive practices of those libraries. This analysis was based on a constructionist-phenomenological approach using a cultural studies paradigm through a case study at three Islamic university libraries in Yogyakarta (libraries of UIN (Universitas Islam Negeri) Sunan Kalijaga, UII (Universitas Islam Indonesia), and UMY (Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta)). As a qualitative approach, depth interview with 15 informants has become a main technique for data collection accompanied with direct observation and documentation techniques as a way to clarify primary data in research. All data collected were analysed, in a critical interpretive way, through Miles and Huberman technique of analysis by three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or verification. In addition, secondary data collection technique of questionnaire (Scale-Four of Likert) given to 65 respondents was used as a way to verify obscure data and find a clear conclusion. Through the above theoretical and methodological approach, the researcher concludes that the library discursive practices demonstrate unbalanced power representation which takes place amongst library actors, both internally and externally. This imbalance influences the professionalism of the management of Islamic university libraries in Yogyakarta. In such situation, various groups and ideologies represented in the library management, such as religious thoughts, organisation lines, and gender issues, have played their roles to achieve their domination and hegemony. Such processes lead those libraries to serve as an ideological site which can be seen in several issues such as ideological types and preserved cultures in the libraries. In addition, contestation amongst actors as seen in the field is embodied in various forms of struggle such as librarian versus nonlibrarian and those from both internal and external which all demonstrate their games to achieve power
