First measurement of tW production cross-section at s\sqrt s~= 13 TeV with CMS

The inclusive cross-section for tW production in proton-proton collisions at s=13\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV is measured for an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb1^{-1} collected by the CMS experiment. The measurement is performed using events with one electron and one muon in the final state and at least one b-quark jet, and utilises kinematic differences between the signal and the dominating ttˉt\bar{t} background using multivariant discriminants which is designed to disentangle the two processes. The measured cross-section of σ=63.1±1.8 (stat)±6.4 (syst)±2.1 (lumi)\sigma = 63.1 \pm 1.8~({\rm stat}) \pm 6.4~({\rm syst}) \pm 2.1~({\rm lumi}) pb is observed to be in agreement with the Standard Model.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, This conference proceeding is based on the poster presented at International Workshop on Top Quark Physics, Bad Neuenahr, Germany, September 16--21, 201

Hermeneutics of Lacerated Souls amidst Political Praxis of Partition in Amrita Pritam’s Pinjar

Pinjar (1950) is a precise novel which talks and envisages the status of women. Amrita Pritam has very well constructed the narration of partition from the women’s point of view. It is a snivel of women against her existential destiny and social cruelty. This novel is a demonstration of impactful narration of the archetypal social line against the weaker section of the society. She is the representation of what women had undergone during partition. These women had no thoughts in partition but they were the ones who suffered it the most. This research paper studies the unheard voices and pain of partition through literature. The novelist has used the mythos and ethos of partition to explore its various versions through fiction of the Indian subcontinent

Nurses as healthcare professionals focus on serving needs of humanity. Nurses face difficulty while communicating and giving care to patients with impaired communication abilities or compromised communication status. Nursing personnel should look forward to ways of improving patient care by developing communication skills and technical skills to help patients in fulfillment of their needs leading to satisfaction of both the patient and the nurse. Also, hospital administration can enhance patient satisfaction by introducing visual communication board in care of patients with compromised communication. Visual communication board can serve as a bridge for communication between the patient and the nurse, if it is readily available and nurses possess skills to use it

Background: This study was carried out to find the rate of Cesarean section (CS) in our institute from 2012 to 2016 and also to find any change in the indications of CS over these five years. Methods: A retrospective analysis of data was done from the records of the patients who underwent CS and the rate of Cesarean section and the indications were noticed. Results: The rate of Cesarean section has increased from 43.85% in 2012 to 48.18% in 2016. There is increase in the number of Primary Cesarean cases from 61.8% in 2012 to 68.4% in 2016.The percentage of Elective CS has increased in last five years from 10.2% in 2012 to 23.6% in 2016 which is due to the drastic increase in Elective Repeat CS from 13.3% in 2012 to 43.4% in 2016. The first and second major indication of Primary CS over the years remained the same i.e. fetal distress and CPD. Other major contributing indications were Non-progress of labour, failed induction and Malpresentation. Oligohydraminos and IUGR, Multiple pregnancy and precious pregnancy have emerged as the major indication in last three years. Previous CS and Previous 2 CS contributed as the main indication for Elective CS.Conclusions: The rate of Cesarean section need to be reduced. The overall main indication for CS was Previous CS and thus Primary CS rate should be reduced. Fetal distress being the main indication for Primary CS should be further confirmed by fetal scalp pH findings and Repeat CS cases should be given more trial of labour

CloudHealth: A Model-Driven Approach to Watch the Health of Cloud Services

Cloud systems are complex and large systems where services provided by different operators must coexist and eventually cooperate. In such a complex environment, controlling the health of both the whole environment and the individual services is extremely important to timely and effectively react to misbehaviours, unexpected events, and failures. Although there are solutions to monitor cloud systems at different granularity levels, how to relate the many KPIs that can be collected about the health of the system and how health information can be properly reported to operators are open questions. This paper reports the early results we achieved in the challenge of monitoring the health of cloud systems. In particular we present CloudHealth, a model-based health monitoring approach that can be used by operators to watch specific quality attributes. The CloudHealth Monitoring Model describes how to operationalize high level monitoring goals by dividing them into subgoals, deriving metrics for the subgoals, and using probes to collect the metrics. We use the CloudHealth Monitoring Model to control the probes that must be deployed on the target system, the KPIs that are dynamically collected, and the visualization of the data in dashboards.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl

AbstractPostoperative sore throat (POST) is a minor complication after general anaesthesia. Many agents have been used as lubricant to reduce the incidence of POST with variable efficacy. We conducted a study to compare the incidence of POST with 0.05% betamethasone gel and 2% lignocaine jelly as a lubricant for PLMA insertion in patients undergoing general anaesthesia.Sixty subjects were divided randomly into two groups. Patients in Group I (n=30) had 2.5ml of 0.05% of betamethasone gel while the Group II had 2.5ml of 2% lignocaine jelly applied on the cuff of PLMA. After standard induction and insertion of PLMA cuff inflated to 60cm of H2O and was maintained at the same throughout the surgery. In PACU, patients were inquired about sore throat at immediate and 24h post operative period.POST was not observed in any of the patients of Group I. In group II 33% of the patients had 1st degree and 10% had 2nd degree of sore-throat in immediate post-operative period. After 24h 16% patients had 1st degree sore-throat and 3% patients had 2nd degree of sore-throat in Group II patients. We conclude that lubricating cuff of PLMA with 0.05% of betamethasone gel is effective in reducing the incidence of POST

The involvement of chlamydiae in abortion and pneumonitis cases among sheep and goat flocks was investigated during the trans Himalayan seasonal migration in a northern mountaneous region of India. A total of 243 samples from clinical cases of abortions (n = 104) from sheep (n = 55) and goats (n = 49), as well as pneumonia (n = 139) from sheep (n = 58) and goats (n = 81), were tested using order Chlamydiales specific 23S rRNA gene based PCR, and family Chlamydiaceae specific ompA gene based PCR tests. Sampling was done from 4 different tracks during the seasonal migration between high altitude pastures and grass lands in plains. Involvement of chlamydiae was detected in 30.9% and 16.3% abortion cases, and in 12.0% and 18.5% pneumonitis cases in sheep and goats, respectively. The associated species/strains of chlamydiae were identified initially by PCR-RFLP, and then genetic diversity at species/strain level was analysed depending upon variations in the VD2 region of the ompA gene. It revealed that 78.9% abortions and 72.7% pneumonic cases were due to C. psittaci, whereas, 21.1% cases of abortion and 27.3% cases of pneumonia were due to C. abortus, respectively. Two predominantly prevalent strains of C. psittaci and C. abortus were also identified. Thus, this study conclusively identified, for the first time, the endemic species/strains of chlamydiae in this region causing frequent abortions and pneumonitis among migratory flocks of sheep and goats. This will help to adopt specific preventive and control measures to curtail the economical losses to farmers and also chances of zoonosis.Nalaz klamidija u slučajevima pobačaja i upale pluća u stadima ovaca i koza istražen je tijekom sezonske selidbe preko Himalaja u sjevernom, planinskom, području Indije.

Integrated graphene quantum dot decorated functionalized nanosheet biosensor for mycotoxin detection

    Get PDF
Decoration of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets serves as an active electrode material which enhances the electrochemical performance of the analyte detection system. Herein, ionic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)-exfoliated MoS2 nanosheets decorated with GQD material are used to construct an electrochemical biosensor for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) detection. An antibody of AFB1 (aAFB1) was immobilized on the electrophoretically deposited MoS2@GQDs film on the indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass surface using a crosslinker for the fabrication of the biosensor. The immunosensing study investigated by the electrochemical method revealed a signal response in the range of 0.1 to 3.0 ng/mL AFB1 concentration with a detection limit of 0.09 ng/mL. Also, electrochemical parameters such as diffusion coefficient and heterogeneous electron transfer (HET) were calculated and found to be 1.67 x 10(-5) cm(2)/s and 2 x 10(-5)cm/s, respectively. The effective conjugation of MoS2@GQDs that provides abundant exposed edge sites, large surface area, improved electrical conductivity, and electrocatalytic activity has led to an excellent biosensing performance with enhanced electrochemical parameters. Validation of the fabricated immunosensor was performed in a spiked maize sample, and a good percentage of recoveries within an acceptable range were obtained (80.2 to 98.3%)

Ameliorating potentials of N-acetyl-l-cysteine against methoxychlor instigated modulation in structural characteristics of granulosa cells of caprine antral follicles

Follicular granulosa cells (GCs) form an important association with follicle’s survival and health that determines ovulation. Apoptosis induction in GCs leads to follicular atresia and infertility problems. The present study aims at assessing the ultrastructural toxicity of methoxychlor (MXC), an organochlorine insecticide and reproductive toxin, on structural aspects of GCs owing to its potential for inducing apoptosis and the ameliorating potential of N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) in this toxicity. The ultrastructural morphology revealed MXC induced degenerative changes in GCs like loss of cellular junction complexes and membrane integrity; nuclear abnormalities like occurrence of condensed and marginated chromatin, crescent shaped or blebbed nucleus; presence of disrupted mitochondria with disrupted cristae, vacuolization, empty spaces, large number of homogenous lipid droplets and extensive network of rough endoplasmic reticulum and several cytoplasmic processes at various doses of MXC with maximum degeneration observed at 100 µg/mL. NAC supplementation reduced the observed apoptotic characteristics of GCs with most significant changes at 5 and 10 mM concentration. Thus, it is evident that MXC acts as an apoptotic inducer in GCs that influences the quality of antral follicles in mammals; however, NAC, with its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, turns out to be a potential therapeutic and anti-apoptotic agent against MXC toxicity
