Poisson's Ratios and Volume Changes for Plastically Orthotropic Material
Measurements of Poisson's ratios have been made in three orthogonal directions on aluminum alloy blocks in compression and on stainless-steel sheet in both tension and compression. These measurements, as well as those obtained by density determinations, show that there is no permanent plastic change in volume within the accuracy of observation. A method is suggested whereby a correlation may be effected between the measured individual values of the Poisson's ratios and the stress-strain curves for the material. Allowance must be made for the difference in the stress-strain in tension and compression; this difference, wherever it appears, is accompanied by significant changes in the Poisson's ratios
Experimental Study of a Hot Structure for a Reentry Vehicle
A large structural model of a reentry vehicle has been built incorporating design concepts applicable to a radiation-cooled vehicle. Thermal-stress alleviating features of the model are discussed. Environmental tests on the model include approximately 100 cycles of loading at room temperature and 33 cycles of combined loading and-heating up to temperatures of 1,6000 F. Measured temperatures are shown for typical parts of the model. Comparisons are made between experimental and calculated deflections and strains. The structure successfully survived the heating and loading environments
Rationale and Methods of the Study Protocol: Streptococcus pneumoniae Serotypes in Adults 18 Years and Older with Radiographically-Confirmed Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP)
This study was an active, prospective surveillance study of adults 18 years and older hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) due to Streptococcus pneumoniae conducted at 21 hospitals in ten cities across the United States. This report describes the surveillance methodology applied between October 7, 2013 and September 30, 2016, including the identification and description of surveillance areas and populations at-risk for CAP hospitalization for estimation of incidence rates for selected study sites
