Implementing universal multi-qubit quantum logic gates in three and four-spin systems at room temperature
In this paper, we present the experimental realization of multi-qubit gates
in macroscopic ensemble of three-qubit and four-qubit
molecules. Instead of depending heavily on the two-bit universal gate, which
served as the basic quantum operation in quantum computing, we use pulses of
well-defined frequency and length that simultaneously apply to all qubits in a
quantum register. It appears that this method is experimentally convenient when
this procedure is extended to more qubits on some quantum computation, and it

Experimental Study of the Effect of External Signal on Microwave Oscillations in a Nonrelativistic Electron Beam with Virtual Cathode
The effect of an external harmonic signal on the characteristics of microwave
generation in a nonrelativistic electron beam with virtual cathode (VC) formed
in a static retarding electric field (low-voltage vircator system) has been
experimentally studied. A significant increase in the vircator generation power
is observed when the frequency of the external signal is close to the frequency
of VC oscillations. At large detunings, a broadband chaotic generation is

On the Klein-Gordon equation and hyperbolic pseudoanalytic function theory
Elliptic pseudoanalytic function theory was considered independently by Bers
and Vekua decades ago. In this paper we develop a hyperbolic analogue of
pseudoanalytic function theory using the algebra of hyperbolic numbers. We
consider the Klein-Gordon equation with a potential. With the aid of one
particular solution we factorize the Klein-Gordon operator in terms of two
Vekua-type operators. We show that real parts of the solutions of one of these
Vekua-type operators are solutions of the considered Klein-Gordon equation.
Using hyperbolic pseudoanalytic function theory, we then obtain explicit
construction of infinite systems of solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation with
potential. Finally, we give some examples of application of the proposed
procedure
A new Plasmodium vivax reference sequence with improved assembly of the subtelomeres reveals an abundance of pir genes
Plasmodium vivax is now the predominant cause of malaria in the Asia-Pacific, South America and Horn of Africa. Laboratory studies of this species are constrained by the inability to maintain the parasite in continuous ex vivo culture, but genomic approaches provide an alternative and complementary avenue to investigate the parasite's biology and epidemiology. To date, molecular studies of P. vivax have relied on the Salvador-I reference genome sequence, derived from a monkey-adapted strain from South America. However, the Salvador-I reference remains highly fragmented with over 2500 unassembled scaffolds. Using high-depth Illumina sequence data, we assembled and annotated a new reference sequence, PvP01, sourced directly from a patient from Papua Indonesia. Draft assemblies of isolates from China (PvC01) and Thailand (PvT01) were also prepared for comparative purposes. The quality of the PvP01 assembly is improved greatly over Salvador-I, with fragmentation reduced to 226 scaffolds. Detailed manual curation has ensured highly comprehensive annotation, with functions attributed to 58% core genes in PvP01 versus 38% in Salvador-I. The assemblies of PvP01, PvC01 and PvT01 are larger than that of Salvador-I (28-30 versus 27 Mb), owing to improved assembly of the subtelomeres. An extensive repertoire of over 1200 Plasmodium interspersed repeat (pir) genes were identified in PvP01 compared to 346 in Salvador-I, suggesting a vital role in parasite survival or development. The manually curated PvP01 reference and PvC01 and PvT01 draft assemblies are important new resources to study vivax malaria. PvP01 is maintained at GeneDB and ongoing curation will ensure continual improvements in assembly and annotation quality
Stability of the Excitonic Phase in Bilayer Quantum Hall Systems at Total Filling One -- Effects of Finite Well Width and Pseudopotentials --
The ground state of a bilayer quantum Hall system at with
model pseudopotential is investigated by the DMRG method. Firstly,
pseudopotential parameters appropriate for the system with finite layer
thickness are derived, and it is found that the finite thickness makes the
excitonic phase more stable. Secondly, a model, where only a few
pseudopotentials with small relative angular momentum have finite values, is
studied, and it is clarified how the excitonic phase is destroyed as
intra-layer pseudopotential becomes larger. The importance of the intra-layer
repulsive interaction at distance twice of the magnetic length for the
destruction of the excitonic phase is found.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Phonons and Colossal Thermal Expansion Behavior of Ag3Co(CN)6 and Ag3Fe(CN)6
Recently colossal positive volume thermal expansion has been found in the
framework compounds Ag3Co(CN)6 and Ag3Fe(CN)6. Phonon spectra have been
measured using the inelastic neutron scattering technique as a function of
temperature and pressure. The data has been analyzed using ab-initio
calculations. We find that the bonding is very similar in both compounds. At
ambient pressure modes in the intermediate frequency part of the vibrational
spectra in the Co compound are shifted to slightly higher energies as compared
to the Fe compound. The temperature dependence of the phonon spectra gives
evidence for large explicit anharmonic contribution to the total anharmonicity
for low-energy modes below 5 meV. We found that modes are mainly affected by
the change in the size of unit cell, which in turn changes the bond lengths and
vibrational frequencies. Thermal expansion has been calculated via the volume
dependence of phonon spectra. Our analysis indicates that Ag phonon modes in
the energy range from 2 to 5 meV are strongly anharmonic and major contributors
to thermal expansion in both compounds. The application of pressure hardens the
low-energy part of the phonon spectra involving Ag vibrations and confirms the
highly anharmonic nature of these modes.Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures and one tabl
Causation, Measurement Relevance and No-conspiracy in EPR
In this paper I assess the adequacy of no-conspiracy conditions employed in
the usual derivations of the Bell inequality in the context of EPR
correlations. First, I look at the EPR correlations from a purely
phenomenological point of view and claim that common cause explanations of
these cannot be ruled out. I argue that an appropriate common cause explanation
requires that no-conspiracy conditions are re-interpreted as mere common
cause-measurement independence conditions. In the right circumstances then,
violations of measurement independence need not entail any kind of conspiracy
(nor backwards in time causation). To the contrary, if measurement operations
in the EPR context are taken to be causally relevant in a specific way to the
experiment outcomes, their explicit causal role provides the grounds for a
common cause explanation of the corresponding correlations.Comment: 20 pages, 1 figur
Measurement of Inverse Pion Photoproduction at Energies Spanning the N(1440) Resonance
Differential cross sections for the process pi^- p -> gamma n have been
measured at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Alternating Gradient Synchrotron
with the Crystal Ball multiphoton spectrometer. Measurements were made at 18
pion momenta from 238 to 748 MeV/c, corresponding to E_gamma for the inverse
reaction from 285 to 769 MeV. The data have been used to evaluate the gamma n
multipoles in the vicinity of the N(1440) resonance. We compare our data and
multipoles to previous determinations. A new three-parameter SAID fit yields 36
+/- 7 (GeV)^-1/2 X 10^-3 for the A^n_1/2 amplitude of the P_11.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, submitted to PR
