A pattern of serious adverse drug reactions reported in a tertiary care hospital, Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh
Background: Serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a major limitation in clinical development of a drug thus necessitating close monitoring. Studies regarding the pattern of serious ADRs are limited in southern India. The present study was conducted in tertiary care hospital in Andhra Pradesh with an objective to evaluate the pattern of severe cutaneous and non-cutaneous ADRs in our hospital and to assess the causality, severity, and preventability of these reactions.Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted over two years, from January 2016 till January 2018 in our ADR monitoring center. The pattern of serious adverse drug reactions, the nature of ADR, suspected drug, the outcome and preventability were analyzed using Modified Hartwig and Siegel scale, and modified Schumock and Thorton scale.Results: Out of 734 ADRs reported, 42 were serious, while 692 were non-serious. Out of 42, 22 were dermatological in origin while the others were acute kidney injury, acute psychosis, febrile neutropenia, gynecomastia, and lipodystrophy. According to WHO causality assessment scale, 27 were probable while 15 were possible. The majority were reported in the age group of 16 to 65 years with female (34) preponderance. The most common drug category responsible was antimicrobials, followed by antiretrovirals, anti-epileptics, and analgesics.Conclusions: Antimicrobial, anti-epileptics, and analgesics contributed to serious ADRs. Although non-cutaneous ADRs did not result in hospitalization, they caused social inhibition and mental stress in the patient

Rapid Prototyping for Aerospace Launch Vehicles
Initial studies of the aerodynamic characteristics of proposed launch vehicles can be made more
accurately if lower cost, high-fidelity aerodynamic models are available for wind tunnel testing
early in design phase. Rapid Prototyping (RP) is an emerging key technology for producing
accurate parts directly from CAD models quickly, with little need of human intervention. Use of
RP models was studied at the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). It was concluded
that RP methods and materials can be used only for preliminary design studies and limited
configurations because of the RP material properties that allow bending of models under higher
loading conditions. The reported results and analysis were based on wind tunnel balances. These
balances give total load on the body. Thus, there is a need for studying the pressure distribution,
the wave pattern and the system behavior under high-speed conditions. In order to study the
above goals, a blunt nose cone of a launch vehicle/ missile was tested which was made using the
solid based RP method FDM, with a Mach number of 2.0. It is concluded that RP models can
take the load at the Mach number 2.0 and also can capture the pressure distribution and wave

Effects of drilling parameters on TI-6Al-4V alloy using different coolants
The formulation or application of coolants plays a critical role in machining to bring out the best finished products. In this scientific article, the study focused on the effects of coolants and machining parameters of Ti-6Al-4V are investigated with consideration of their performances by using drilling operation. The design of experiments (DOE) was considered and the performance of machining was measured with respect to cutting temperatures and surface responses. The final results put forward that the excellent surface finish and minimal cutting temperatures are obtained by application of power metcut s plus when compared with pure water. The factors that impact the surface roughness of Ti-6Al-4V are coolant and feed rate. The coolant also helps in the machining process by reducing temperature at the cutting zone
Evaluation of safety and efficacy of intravenous iron sucrose therapy for moderate anaemia in antenatal women
Background: Prevalence of iron deficiency anaemia is high in developing countries like India. Treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy is very important to bring down maternal mortality rate as blood loss during delivery can lead to death of the patient. The aim and objective of our study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravenous iron sucrose infusions in antenatal women admitted in hospital suffering from moderate iron deficiency anaemia. Special emphasis was given to observe adverse drug effects.Methods: This was a prospective observational study conducted in Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, Government General Hospital, Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Study period was two months and study population included antenatal women with gestational age less than 37 weeks with moderate iron deficiency anaemia. Peripheral smear was examined for microcytic hypochromic anaemia and they were treated with intravenous infusion of iron sucrose. Haemoglobin levels were checked before and 5 weeks after iron infusions. Monitoring was done for adverse reactions.Results: Out of 322 admissions, 95% were found to be anaemic. 72 patients were suffering from moderate anaemia from which 25 have been included and treated with intravenous iron sucrose infusions. They were observed for efficacy and safety parameters. Two minor adverse events were reported (fever with chills and angioedema of lips) and they were excluded from study. Mean haemoglobin concentration was found to be raised from 7.08±0.73 (SD) to 11.33±0.48 (SD) within 5 weeks for 23 patients.Conclusions: Iron sucrose infusion is safe and effective for anaemia in pregnancy
Incidentally detected solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of pancreas in a child with an ovarian cyst: a case report
Solid pseudopapillary neoplasms (SPN) are the most common as well as very rare pediatric tumors of the pancreas. Most of the literature is derived from adult SPNs. As per world health organization, these tumors considered as low grade malignant with excellent survival outcomes after complete surgical resection. We report a case of incidentally detected SPN in a 16-year-old female child with an ovarian cyst. She underwent pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy and ovarian cystectomy. Histopathology revealed well differentiated SPN of the pancreas head and ovarian cystadenoma. She is symptom-free at the 6th month follow up
Melting with Viscous Dissipation on MHD Radiative Flow from a Vertical Plate Embedded in Non-Darcy Porous Medium
We analyzed in this paper the effect of radiation on melting from a vertical plate embedded in porous medium in MHD mixed convection with viscous dissipation under non-Darcy (Forchheimer) conditions. Both aiding and opposing flows are considered in the study. The numerical results were obtained for velocity and temperature variation in melting region and presented in a graphical form. Heat transfer in the melting region has also been studied and the effect of melting parameter and radiation on Nusselt number are presented in graphical form
A Study on Mixed Convective, MHD Flow from a Vertical Plate Embedded in Non-Newtonian Fluid Saturated Non- Darcy Porous Medium with Melting Effect
We analyzed in this paper the problem of mixed convection along a vertical plate in a non-Newtonian fluid
saturated non-Darcy porous medium in the presence of melting and thermal dispersion-radiation effects for
aiding and opposing external flows. Similarity solution for the governing equations is obtained for the flow
equations in steady state. The equations are numerically solved by using Runge-kutta fourth order method
coupled with shooting technique. The effects of melting (M), thermal dispersion (D), radiation (R), magnetic
field (MH), viscosity index (n) and mixed convection (Ra/Pe) on fluid velocity and temperature are examined
for aiding and opposing external flows
