Entanglement Capacity of Nonlocal Hamiltonians : A Geometric Approach
We develop a geometric approach to quantify the capability of creating
entanglement for a general physical interaction acting on two qubits. We use
the entanglement measure proposed by us for -qubit pure states (PRA
\textbf{77}, 062334 (2008)). Our procedure reproduces the earlier results (PRL
\textbf{87}, 137901 (2001)). The geometric method has the distinct advantage
that it gives an experimental way to monitor the process of optimizing
entanglement production.Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure
Fabrication, Mechanical and Wear Properties of Aluminum (Al6061)-Silicon Carbide-Graphite Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites
In recent times, the use of aluminum alloy-based Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites (HMMCs) is being increased in aerospace and automotive applications. HMMCs compensate for the low desirable properties of each filler used. However, the mechanical properties of HMMCs are not well understood. In particular, microstructural investigations and wear optimization studies of HMMCs are not clear. Therefore, further studies are required. The present study is aimed at fabricating and mechanical and wear characterizing and microstructure investigating of Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Graphite (Gr) added in Aluminum (Al) alloy Al6061 HMMCs. The addition of SiC particles was in the range from 0 to 9 weight percentage (wt.%) in steps of 3, along with the addition of 1 wt.% Gr in powder form. The presence of alloying elements in the Al6061 alloy was identified using the Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX). The dispersion of SiC and Gr particles in the alloy was investigated using metallurgical microscope and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The gain in strength can be attributed to the growth in dislocation density. The nature of fracture was quasi-cleavage. The microstructure examination reveals the uniform dispersion of the reinforcement. Density, hardness, and Ultimate Tensile Strength values observed to be increased with increased contents of SiC reinforcement. Besides, wear studies were performed in dry sliding conditions. Optimization studies were performed to investigate the effect of parameters that affecting the wear. The sliding wear resistance was noticed to be improved concerning higher amounts of reinforcement leading to a decrease in delamination and adhesive wear. The predicted values for the wear rate have also been compared with the experimental results and good correlation is obtained
Impact of farmer producer organization on organic chilli production in Telangana, India
Input intensive modern agriculture is adversely affecting human health and environment. Farmers of Telangana state have taken up organic chilli production with the assistance of FPOs. Primary data was collected from 120 farmers comprising 60 members and 60 non-members of FPO from two districts of Telangana through semi-structured interviews. The study found that the shift to organic chilli cultivation led to decrease in input use by 9.06% and yield by 23.4%. However, the gross return from organic chilli farming was 13.85% higher over that realised by non-members due to the efforts of FPOs. DEA analysis revealed that a higher proportion of member farmers (48%) had technical efficiency of more than 60% as compared to non-members (18%). FPOs were instrumental in reduction of transaction cost and number of intermediaries leading to the realization of a higher proportion of producer’s share in consumer’s rupee (65%). Discriminant function analysis revealed that the FPO promoting institutions (44%), ease of doing business (16%) and infrastructure facilities like storage, irrigation, electricity and credit have high influence on performance of the states with respect to FPOs
Theoretical band energetics of Ba(M0.5Sn0.5)O-3 for solar photoactive applications
We report here a comparative study of the theoretically calculated electronic structures of cubic BaSnO3 and cubic Ba(M0.5Sn0.5)O-3 with M=Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Ce, and Pb, the tetravalent metal ions, to explore their possible efficacy for the visible light photocatalysis and solar energy conversion. We performed the calculations within the framework of density functional theory by using WIEN97 code. The 3d orbitals of Ti, V, and Cr, 4d of Zr, and the 4f and 6s orbitals of Ce and Pb, respectively, contributed to the bottom of the conduction band for narrowing of the band gap of cubic BaSnO3. Calculation of the frequency dependent absorption coefficient I(omega) of Ba(M0.5Sn0.5)O-3 indicated that among the transition metal (Ti, V, Cr, and Zr) doped systems, Cr has comparatively higher visible absorption efficiency, whereas among other metal (Pb and Ce) systems, Pb showed significant absorption coefficient in low energy range (E V > Ti among first row transition metals and (ii) Pb > Ce > Zr among rest of tetravalent metals, in decreasing order of photoresponse towards low energy photons (E <= 2.5 eV). An Experimentally accessible geometric measure for entanglement in -qubit pure states
We present a multipartite entanglement measure for -qubit pure states,
using the norm of the correlation tensor which occurs in the Bloch
representation of the state. We compute this measure for several important
classes of -qubit pure states such as GHZ states, W states and their
superpositions. We compute this measure for interesting applications like one
dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet. We use this measure to follow the
entanglement dynamics of Grover's algorithm. We prove that this measure
possesses almost all the properties expected of a good entanglement measure,
including monotonicity. Finally, we extend this measure to -qubit mixed
states via convex roof construction and establish its various properties,
including its monotonicity. We also introduce a related measure which has all
properties of the above measure and is also additive.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, presented in part at ISCQI (Bhubaneswar, India),

Phase Diagram of the Two Dimensional Lattice Coulomb Gas
We use Monte Carlo simulations to map out the phase diagram of the two
dimensional Coulomb gas on a square lattice, as a function of density and
temperature. We find that the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition remains up to
higher charge densities than has been suggested by recent theoretical
estimates.Comment: 4 pages, including 6 in-line eps figure
Instanton Corrected Non-Supersymmetric Attractors
We discuss non-supersymmetric attractors with an instanton correction in Type
IIA string theory compactified on a Calabi-Yau three-fold at large volume. For
a stable non-supersymmetric black hole, the attractor point must minimize the
effective black hole potential. We study the supersymmetric as well as
non-supersymmetric attractors for the D0-D4 system with instanton corrections.
We show that in simple models, like the STU model, the flat directions of the
mass matrix can be lifted by a suitable choice of the instanton parameters.Comment: Minor modifications, Corrected typos, 38 pages, 1 figur
Decoding the X-ray flare from MAXI J0709-159 using optical spectroscopy and multi-epoch photometry
We present a follow-up study on the recent detection of two X-ray flaring
events by MAXI/GSC observations in soft and hard X-rays from MAXI J0709-159 in
the direction of HD 54786 (LY CMa), on 2022 January 25. The X-ray luminosity
during the flare was around 10^(37) erg/s (MAXI), which got reduced to 10^(32)
erg/s (NuSTAR) after the flare. We took low-resolution spectra of HD 54786 from
HCT and VBT facilities in India, on 2022 February 1 and 2. In addition to
H-alpha emission, we found emission lines of He I in the optical spectrum of
this star. By comparing our spectrum of the object with those from literature
we found that He I lines show variability. Using photometric study we estimate
that the star is having effective temperature of 20000 K. Although HD 54786 is
reported as a supergiant in previous studies, our analysis favours it to be
evolving off the main sequence in the Color-Magnitude Diagram. We could not
detect any infrared excess, ruling out the possibility of IR emission from a
dusty circumstellar disc. Our present study suggests that HD 54786 is a
Be/X-ray binary system with a compact object companion, possibly a neutron
star.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in ApJ
Non-Supersymmetric Stringy Attractors
In this paper we examine the stability of non-supersymmetric attractors in
type IIA supergravity compactified on a Calabi-Yau manifold, in the presence of
sub-leading corrections to the N=$ pre-potential. We study black hole
configurations carrying D0-D6 and D0-D4 charges. We consider the O(1)
corrections to the pre-potential given by the Euler number of the Calabi-Yau
manifold. We argue that such corrections in general can not lift the zero modes
for the D0-D6 attractors. However, for the attractors carrying the D0-D4
charges, they affect the zero modes in the vector multiplet sector. We show
that, in the presence of such O(1) corrections, the D0-D4 attractors can either
be stable or unstable depending on the geometry of the underlying Calabi-Yau
manifold, and on the specific values of the charges they carry.Comment: corrected typos, minor modification
