Utilisation of sea nodules leaching residue for adsorption of Ni(II) ions

    Get PDF
Polymetallic sea nodules may be considered as lean grade ore of Cu, Ni & Co. After recovery of these valuable metals, a huge quantity of residue (~70% of ore body) is generated. In the present paper, investigations carried out for the application of leached sea nodule residue for the removal of Ni(II) from aqueous solution by adsorption, are described. Several parameters have been varied to study the feasibility of using residue as potential adsorbent for remediation Ni(II) contaminated water. The adsorption kinetics followed pseudo first-order equation and the rate of adsorption increased with solution temperature. Kinetics data of Ni(II) adsorption was also discussed using diffusion models of Webber-Morris and Dumwald-Wagner models. The equilibrium data was best fitted into Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacities was found to be 15.15 mg g-1 at pH 5.5 and temperature 303 K, which decreased to 10.64 mg g-1 upon raising the solution temperature to 323 K. The activation energy for Ni(II) adsorption onto leached sea nodule residue was 9.56 kJ mol−1 indicated physical sorption. Desorption studies showed successful regeneration of adsorbent and recovery of Ni. This process can be utilised for removal and recovery of Ni from the industrial effluent

Objective: To develop and validate UV spectrometric method for quantitative determination of ulipristal acetate. Methods: The solvent selected was methanol and detection was carried out at 302 nm.Results: Linearity of the proposed method was found to be between 5–20 μg/ml. LOD and LOQ were found to be 0.0062 μg/ml and 0.0187 μg/ml, respectively. The % recovery of the proposed method was found to be 98.83 %-100.32 %. The method was found to be precise as the values of % RSD obtained for both intraday and interday, precision studies were found to be<2.0 %. The method was robust and can be useful for routine analysis of formulations containing ulipristal acetate. Conclusion: The developed method was found to be simple, sensitive, linear, accurate, precise and robust. The developed and validated method can be used for quantitative determination of ulipristal acetate in bulk drugs and dosage form.Â

Human GUCY2C-Targeted Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-Expressing T Cells Eliminate Colorectal Cancer Metastases.

One major hurdle to the success of adoptive T-cell therapy is the identification of antigens that permit effective targeting of tumors in the absence of toxicities to essential organs. Previous work has demonstrated that T cells engineered to express chimeric antigen receptors (CAR-T cells) targeting the murine homolog of the colorectal cancer antigen GUCY2C treat established colorectal cancer metastases, without toxicity to the normal GUCY2C-expressing intestinal epithelium, reflecting structural compartmentalization of endogenous GUCY2C to apical membranes comprising the intestinal lumen. Here, we examined the utility of a human-specific, GUCY2C-directed single-chain variable fragment as the basis for a CAR construct targeting human GUCY2C-expressing metastases. Human GUCY2C-targeted murine CAR-T cells promoted antigen-dependent T-cell activation quantified by activation marker upregulation, cytokine production, and killing of GUCY2C-expressing, but not GUCY2C-deficient, cancer cells in vitro. GUCY2C CAR-T cells provided long-term protection against lung metastases of murine colorectal cancer cells engineered to express human GUCY2C in a syngeneic mouse model. GUCY2C murine CAR-T cells recognized and killed human colorectal cancer cells endogenously expressing GUCY2C, providing durable survival in a human xenograft model in immunodeficient mice. Thus, we have identified a human GUCY2C-specific CAR-T cell therapy approach that may be developed for the treatment of GUCY2C-expressing metastatic colorectal cancer

Quality control parameters of Gandhakadi Yoga tablets W. S. R. To its microscopic evaluation

    Get PDF
Gandhakadi Yoga is a formulation suggested for Loha Sevanajanya Vikara Prashamana (Iron overload) in Ayurveda Prakasha and can be used as iron chelator which might help to decrease the iron overload. The present study was carried out to standardize the finished product Gandhakadi Yoga tablets for confirmation of its identity, quality and purity. Thus a trial was made to establish the Quality assessing parameters for Gandhakadi Yoga tablets by simple microscopic technique. The characters i.e. black debris of Gandhaka treated with Bhringaraja, light yellow brown content of Gandhaka, fragment of spongy parenchyma of Agastya leaf, oil globules and epicarp cells with tannin content of Vidanga etc. were the characteristic features of the finished product

Evaluation of Perceptual Contrast and Sharpness Measures for Meteorological Satellite Images

    Get PDF
AbstractSharpness and contrast have great impact on perceived quality of an image. This paper focuses on sharpness and contrast measures to evaluate quality of Thermal Infrared (TIR1) channel of Indian National Satellite-3D (INSAT-3D) without using any reference image. Most of the sharpness metrics can scarcely manage to discern image quality degradation against high frequency behavior due to noise. Six Image Quality Measures (IQMs) are employed to study their behavior in terms of blur, noise and intensity changes simultaneously. Results show that (1) change in value of Measure Of Enhancement By Entropy (EMEE) is more discernible with change in contrast of an INSAT-3D image as compared to other measures and (2) Second Derivative Like Measure Of Enhancement (SDME) has a potential to distinguish high frequency content due to sharpness arisen due to un estimated noise up to some remarkable level in case of TIR1 INSAT-3D satellite images. Performance comparison of six measures against blur, noise, contrast and sharpness changes is presented

The facile and efficient three-component one-pot Mannich-type reaction of indoles catalyzed by In(OTf)3 under microwave irradiations

Indium triflate catalysed the three-component one-pot reaction of indole 1 with a heteroimine generated in situ under microwave irradiations and afforded predominately secondary indolyl amines 4 in excellent yields as well as bisindolyl methane 5 in poor yields. The catalyst indium triflate can be recovered after the reaction and reused in the subsequent experiments
