Evaluation of phenomenological findings in IS research : a study in developing web-based IS
This paper presents a phenomenological investigation of project managers’ experiences with the implementation of web-based employee service systems (ESS), a domain that has witnessed sharp growth in Australia in recent times. The rich, multidimensional account of project managers’ experiences with the implementation of ESS revealed the social obstacles and fragility of intraorganizational relationships that demanded a cautious and tactful approach. While arriving at such findings usually concludes the cyclical process of phenomenological study, Information Systems (IS) research usually demands some independent assessment of the empirical discovery, which led us to conducting a further study focusing on the evaluation of the collected and packaged project managers’ experience. This phenomenological evaluation is in the focus of this paper. By means of a small case study, this project engaged a number of professional teams to reflect upon the previously captured problem-solving experience and determine its applicability, usefulness and relevance in developing new web-based ESS products and services.<br /
Spectral Red-Shift Versus Broadening from Photon and Dilepton Spectra
We estimate the photon and dilepton emission rates from hot hadronic matter
with in-medium spectral shift and broadening of vector mesons. It is observed
that both the WA98 photon data and CERES/NA45 dilepton data can be well
reproduced with similar initial conditions. The freeze-out condition has been
constrained by the transverse mass spectra of pions and protons measured by the
NA49 collaboration. We argue that simultaneous measurement of the spectra
of single photons as well as invariant mass distribution of dileptons is
crucial to understand the in-medium spectral function of the vector mesons.Comment: Title and contents change
Blogs as a third place : The emergence of online alcoves sharing common interests
An abbreviated case study in narrative form of a weblog is presented. Preliminary observations in an ongoing longitudinal study suggest that the blog, whose discourse engages in the niche interest area of film music appreciation, is a representative example of an emergent social network dubbed in sociological terms as a “third place.” This is deemed to be an unanticipated consequence for a medium originally intended primarily for personal publishing
The Long Tail of Blogging: A Nurturing Mechanism for Sustainable Online Communities with Niche Interests
A qualitative study of the motivating factors behind sustainable weblogs is presented, based on the dissection of group behavioural characteristics in the common practice of two niche interest music blogs. Preliminary observations suggest that the emerging business consumer demographic known as the “long tail” (Anderson, 2006) is at play in the ecology of the blogosphere
