    The recent statistical literature attests to a considerable current interest in specialised statistical methods for the analysis of time to occurrence or failure time data in medical research. Frequently the primary objective of a failure time Study concerns with the association between certain co-variates Z = (Z1, ..., Zp) and the time T > 0 to the occurrence of a certain event. For example a clinical study may be designed to compare several treatment programmes in respect to the time T to recurrence of a disease or response to treatment of a disease. The regression vector Z would include indicator components for treatment as well as other prognostic factors

    Acoustical-Mode-Driven Electron-Phonon Coupling in Transition-Metal Diborides

    We show that the electron-phonon coupling in the transition-metal diborides NbB2 and TaB2 is dominated by the longitudinal acoustical (LA) mode, in contrast to the optical E_{2g} mode dominated coupling in MgB2. Our ab initio results, described in terms of phonon dispersion, linewidth, and partial electron-phonon coupling along Gamma to A, also show that (i) NbB2 and TaB2 have a relatively weak electron-phonon coupling, (ii) the E_{2g} linewidth is an order of magnitude larger in MgB2 than in NbB2 or TaB2, (iii) the E_{2g} frequency in NbB2 and TaB2 is considerably higher than in MgB2, and (iv) the LA frequency at A for TaB2 is almost half of that of MgB2 or NbB2.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, and 1 tabl

    Co-variate analysis of tuberculosis data using Cox's regression model

    A regression model which allows for analysis of censored survival data adjusting for continuous as well as discrete covariates and varying with time has been proposed by Cox. The hazard rate could be modelled as a function of both time and covariates and the hazard rate could be represented as the product of two terms, the funs representing an unadjusted force of mortality which can be estimated non-parametrically and the second adjusting for the linear combination of a particular covariate profile. In this paper an attempt is made to demonstrate the value of this model with pulmonary tuberculosis data in quantifying the effects of disease, demographic and treatment variables

    Macro and microscopic characters of Maerua oblongifolia (Forssk.) A. Rich leaf

    The paper deals with a detailed investigation on the leaves of Maerua oblongifolia (Forssk.) A. Rich. which includes it’s morphological, anatomical and powder analysis. It is a low woody bushy under-shrub belonging to the family Capparaceae. The leaves are used in treatment of as fever, ear ache, stomach ache, skin infections, urinary calculii, diabetes mellitus, epilepsy, rigidity in lower limbs, and abdominal colic. The leaf amphistomatic, with mostly anamocytic, few tetracytic stomata. In transverse section of leaf is ribbed on either sides at midvein, epidermis one layered. Mesophyll differentiated into palisade and spongy tissues. Ground tissue of midvein differentiated into palisade, collenchyma and parenchyma. The midvien consists of one large oval shaped vascular bundles arranged are at the centre. Petiole in transverse section is circular adaxially small, grooved at centre and epidermis is having one layered, a single circular vascular bundle present at the centre, vascular bundle is enclosed by endodermis. The powder microscopic and organoleptic characters are also presented in this study. This study would helps as an appropriate source for authentification of the present studied drug. &nbsp

    Synthesis and characterization of Ru(II) complexes with polyfunctional quinazo line-(3H)-4-ones

    1066-1069A few Ru(II) complexes of the type Ru (O – N - O)2 with tridentate O – N - O donors and of the type RuCl2(O-N)2 with bidentate O - O and O – N donors have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of analytical, conductivity, thermal, magnetic, IR, electronic and PMR spectral data. The IR and PMR spectral data of the metalcomplexes indicate that the ligands like 2-methyl/phenyl-3- (2'-hydroxybenzalamino) quinazoline-(3H)-4-one (MHBQ/ PHBQ) act as uninegative tridentate, 2-methyl/phenyl- 3-(carboxymethyl) quinazoline-(3H)-4-one (MCMQ/PCMQ) as uninegative bidentate and 2-methyl/phenyl-3-(furfuralamino) quinazoline-(3H)-4-one (MFQ/PFQ), 2-methyl/phenyl-3-(acetamino) quinazoline-(3H)-4-one (MAQ/PAQ), 2-methyl/phenyl 3-(uramino) quinazoline- (3H)-4-one (MUQ/PUQ) and 2-methyl/phenyl-3- thiouramino)quinazoline-(3H)-4-one-(MTUQ/PTUQ) as neutral bidentate ligands.The electronic spectral data of the complexes indicate that the arrangement around Ru(II) is octahedral
