    Personality profiles of cultures: aggregate personality traits

    Personality profiles of cultures can be operationalized as the mean trait levels of culture members. College students from 51 cultures rated an individual from their country whom they knew well (N = 12, 156). Aggregate scores on Revised NEO Personality Inventory scales generalized across age and gender groups, approximated the individual-level Five-Factor Model, and correlated with aggregate self-report personality scores and other culture-level variables. Results were not attributable to national differences in economic development or to acquiescence. Geographical differences in scale variances and mean levels were replicated, with Europeans and Americans generally scoring higher in Extraversion than Asians and Africans. Findings support the rough scalar equivalence of NEO-PI-R factors and facets across cultures, and suggest that aggregate personality profiles provide insight into cultural differences

    In this study we examined the score that a group of outpatient children obtained in the Cuestionario de Personalidad de Niños y Adolescentes. We the compared the scores of this group with a control group of children that were in school. The results revealed that children in treatment obtained higher in the Psychoticism scale, lower scores in the Extraversion Scale and similar scores in the Neuroticism and Lie Scale

    Parallel Algorithm for Extended Star Clustering

    Abstract. In this paper we present a new parallel clustering algorithm based on the extended star clustering method. This algorithm can be used for example to cluster massive data sets of documents on distributed memory multiprocessors. The algorithm exploits the inherent data-parallelism in the extended star clustering algorithm. We implemented our algorithm on a cluster of personal computers connected through a Myrinet network. The code is portable to different architectures and it uses the MPI message-passing library. The experimental results show that the parallel algorithm clearly improves its sequential version with large data sets. We show that the speedup of our algorithm approaches the optimal as the number of objects increases

    Extended Star Clustering Algorithm

    Abstract. In this paper we propose the extended star clustering algorithm and compare it with the original star clustering algorithm. We introduce a new concept of star and as a consequence, we obtain different star-shaped clusters. The evaluation experiments on TREC data, show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the original algorithm. Our algorithm is independent of the data order and obtains a smaller number of clusters
