    STUDY CONCERNING THE HONEY QUALITIES IN TRANSYLVANIA REGION

    The sources of micro-organisms (yeasts and fungi) found in honey are nectar andpollen, honey processing areas, equipments that have not been properly cleaned or wrappings. There are few types of yeast in honey and the most common are Saccharomyces melis, whichgrows in media with water content over 20-25% and Saccharomyces rosei, which can ferment inmedia with 60% carbohydrates. Yeasts can produce microbiological faults in honey with more than102 cells /g honey, stored at temperatures over 15 0C (Sindilar, E., 2000). Fungi can come from dust contamination, from the water with which installations orcontainers are washed and to a smaller degree, they can come from the honeybees. If they arefound in honey in a vegetative state, they can metabolise carbohydrates, amino-acids and evenpollen, causing various organoleptic changes (taste and smell of mildew). The present paper is a comparative microbiological and physical-chemical analysis ofvarious types of honey (polyfloral, tilia, acacia, sunflower, and honeydew) collected frombeekeepers The results have enabled us to make correlations between moisture, acidity, pH and themicrobiological characteristics of the tested honey samples and processors.quality, product quality, honey quality

    Prenatal Diagnosis and Management of Sacrococcygeal Teratomas

    Sacrococcygeal teratomas (SCT) represents a group tumors deriving from the primordial germ cells. It is the most common tumor affecting neonates, with a female to male ratio of almost 4:1.78. SCT are either benign (mature) or malignant (immature) with different outcome. With advancements in ultrasonography, more SCT are diagnosed prenatally. magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is more accurate in describing the intrapelvic and abdominal extent of the tumor. Most fetal teratomas could be managed by planned delivery and postnatal surgery. The earlier the diagnosis and surgical intervention, the better the prognosis. A complete surgical excision of the tumor is necessary, including coccygectomy, to prevent recurrence. At the time of birth, most lesions are benign and surgical resection can be accomplished with relatively low morbidity and mortality. Recurrence is reported as 2–35% in patients with immature teratomas, tumor spillage, incomplete resection or failure to remove the coccyx. A long-term follow-up is required for any urinary or bowel dysfunction

    Depression and breast cancer; postoperative short-term implications

    Introduction. Pre and postoperative psychological status is an important aspect in patients diagnosed with breast cancer, having a great impact on their quality of life. Considering the high incidence, mortality rate, and the added effect on self-image, breast cancer is considered a major stressor for women worldwide, almost 50% of these experiencing psychological distress. Methods. Our study retrospectively analysed the relationship between preoperative diagnosed depression and the number of medical care days, on patients diagnosed with breast cancer and admitted for surgical treatment in Colțea Clinical Hospital between 2017 and 2018. Results. We had 62 patients scheduled for breast cancer surgery, who had been preoperatively evaluated using psychological tests. Of those patients, 18 had scores indicating significant symptoms of depression (moderate or severe symptoms, HDSR \u3e17). Patients with high HDSR scores needed an 18.4% longer hospitalization than patients without symptoms of depression. They also had 35.4% more ambulatory visits in the month following discharge, and a higher incidence of postoperative complications. Conclusions. There seem to be both physiological and somatic determinants responsible for the need of prolonged medical care, but the mechanisms responsible for these effects remain unclear. Identifying high-risk patients could not only lower the postoperative morbidity, but also increase the therapeutic outcomes

    Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, immunologically mediated disease, defined by periods of exacerbation and quiescence. The disease is associated with a low mortality risk, but in some instances, morbidity can be important, especially in extensive, erosive forms, with a significant impact on the quality of life. OLP is a chronic T-cell mediated inflammatory disease involving the oral cavity, the most common lesions being located on the oral mucosa, tongue and gums. Its etiology remains in part unknown, but several factors proved to be involved in the development of the disease (drugs, dental materials, infectious agents, psychological factors, autoimmunity and genetic predisposition). The therapeutic approach should take into account the type of lesion and the extent of the disease, as well as the possible adverse effects. Although several therapies are available, OLP treatment still remains a challenge. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is widely used in dermatology, finding applicability in the treatment of an increasing number of conditions. Recent research has shown the role of PDT in the treatment of OLP. It is a minimally invasive therapy with few side effects and promising results

    Enhanced adsorption of methyl orange from aqueous solutions using a functionalized styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer

    The adsorption efficiency of the styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer functionalized with carboxylic acid groups (SDVBF) was investigated for methyl orange (MO) removal from aqueous solutions. The effects of contact time and of the initial concentration on the amount of MO adsorbed were studied. The kinetics of MO adsorption onto SDVBF copolymer was described by the pseudo-second order model. It was demonstrated that Redlich-Peterson model is the most suitable to describe the adsorption of MO onto SDVBF copolymer. The maximum adsorption capacity of the SDVBF adsorbent, resulted from the Langmuir isotherm was 53.12 mg g-1
