Bilateral Labial Talon Cusps on Permanent Maxillary Central Incisors: Report of a Rare Case

Talon cusp is a well delineated anomalous structure located on the surface of an anterior tooth. The exact etiology is unknown. Lingual talon cusps are widely reported but literature reports of facial talon cusps are few & mainly unilateral. Bilateral labial talon cusps have been reported, but only on mandibular teeth. This case documents a rare case of an isolated developmental abnormality of bilateral labial talon cusps on permanent maxillary central incisors in an 8year old girl

Contract Farming, Ecological Change and the Transformations of Reciprocal Gendered Social Relations in Eastern India

Debates on gender and the commodification of land highlight the loss of land rights, intensification of demands on women’s labour, and decline in their decision-making control. Supported by ‘extra-economic forces’ of religious nationalism (Hindutva), such neoliberal interventions are producing new gender ideologies involving a subtle shift from relations of reciprocity to those of subordination. Using data from fine grained fieldwork in Koraput district, Odisha, we analyse the tensions and transformations created jointly by corporate interventions (contract farming of eucalyptus by the paper industry) and religious nationalism in the local landscape. We examine how these phenomena are reshaping relations of asymmetric mutuality between nature and society, and between men and women

An intimate and imperial feminism: Meliscent Shephard and the regulation of prostitution in colonial India

This paper seeks to construct an antinostalgic portrait of an imperial feminist. As the representative of the Association for Moral and Social Hygiene (AMSH) in India between 1928 and 1947, Meliscent Shephard was an embodiment not only of the feminist urge to challenge patriarchal gender relations, but also of the imperialist urge to classify and fathom the world through a series of racist typologies. Despite an earlier belief that blame for the exploitation of prostitutes lay with the colonial state and economy, she later fell back on explanations based on notions of Indian society and religion. Operating in a period of heightened anticolonial nationalism, these latter views thwarted any hope of her forging successful connections with emergent Indian social reform groups. This failure to cultivate intimate relations with Indian colleagues marks a failure at the level of national and racial politics. Shephard did, however, cultivate an intimate relationship with correspondents at the AMSH in London, while her experiences of the sexual geographies of Indian cities provided a form of intimate interaction that would inspire her mission to close down tolerated brothels. As such, this paper marks an empirical engagement with the intimate frontiers at which the affective grid of colonial politics was marked out

Number of restrictions of a Boolean function act as a complexity measure

    No full text
Complexity of boolean functions can be computed in many ways. Various complexity measures exist which are based on different models of representation of the boolean function. The complexity measures range from very coarse and simple to very fine and hard to compute. The introduced complexity meausre called Restriction complexity is a measure based on number of restrictions of a boolean function. In this paper we define restriction complexity, compute its values for some functions, and determine its range in the form of upper and lower bounds on it. We also show that restriction complexity is close to the cardinality of support measure in an almost all sense as defined by Abu-Mostafa

On neural networks for analog-to-digital conversion

In this paper we compare analog to,digital conversion (ADC) delay in Hopfield ADC and asymmetrical (lower triangular) neural network-based ADC due to Avitabile et al. It is shown that, although Hopfield ADC; has extensive feedback, its behavior in asynchronous mode is similar to that of lower triangular ADC. It is also shown that any constant delay n-bit feedforward ADC must have an exponential number of neurons

The evaluation of different methods viz., acid etch and by air abrasion on retentivity of fissure sealant after 6 months: A clinical study

Background and Purpose: The objectives of the study were (1) to compare two techniques of sealant placement using Acid-etch technique and by using an Air abrasive technique, (2) to determine whether particular tooth locations are related to sealant loss or retention. Methodology: 30 children in age group 7-12 years were received sealant on non carious, non filled, occlusal, and buccal pit surfaces of both permanent first mandibular molars (36, 46) two in each subject of treatment groups: 1) Acid etch technique (Group A) and 2) Air abrasion without acid etch (Group B). A total of one hundred and twenty surfaces received sealants, and were evaluated at six months. Results: Rate of complete sealant retention at six months for occlusal surfaces were 89.29% for Acid etching and 78.57% for Air abrasion , and for buccal surface were 50% for Acid etching and 32.14% for Air abrasion. Conclusion: This study suggested that, rates of complete retention on the occlusal and buccal surfaces of both treatment groups were not significant. More research is needed to identify factors contributing to low retention rates on occlusal and buccal surfaces for Air abrasion technique
