Attitude Towards Online Retailing Services: A Comparison Of Student And Non-Student Samples

    Get PDF
This study examined the adequacy of using undergraduate student samples in research on online consumer attitudes by comparing the attitudes of students (n = 161) towards online retailing services with the attitudes of non-students (n = 252) towards such services. A structured questionnaire administered online was used to gather data on perceptions, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions with regard to online retailing services. The t-test results showed that, in general, students' attitude towards online retailing services is similar to that of non-students. Therefore, undergraduate students may be reasonable surrogates for consumers in research on online retailing

Effects of workplace incivility, negative affectivity and hurt feelings on coworker helping

Helping behavior among coworkers is important in ensuring organizational functioning. Some researchers propose that the presence of negative work behavior, such as workplace incivility, may reduce helping behavior among coworkers. Research testing the effects of workplace incivility on coworker helping is, however, limited. Therefore, this study sought to address this research gap. Underpinned by affective events theory, the theory of reasoned action, and the norm of reciprocity, this study examined the relationship between workplace incivility and coworker helping using a mediation-moderation framework with hurt feelings as a mediating variable and negative affectivity as a moderating variable. The study sample comprised 463 employees of a public sector organization in Malaysia. The study hypotheses were tested using PLS structural equation modeling. The results of the study showed that (a) workplace incivility was negatively related to coworker helping, and this relationship was mediated partially by hurt feelings, (b) workplace incivility and negative affectivity were both positively related to hurt feelings, (c) hurt feelings was negatively related to coworker helping, and (d) negative affectivity did not moderate the relationship between workplace incivility and hurt feelings. Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature by providing some support for (a) the presence of tit-for-tat exchanges in cases of workplace incivility, (b) the importance of examining discrete emotions in organizational research, and (c) the importance of affective events theory for explaining the link between a work event and a behavioral intention. This study also informs employers and human resource practitioners that workplace incivility is a real and costly problem; thus, appropriate managerial interventions are needed to address this issue

Search for eccentric black hole coalescences during the third observing run of LIGO and Virgo

Despite the growing number of confident binary black hole coalescences observed through gravitational waves so far, the astrophysical origin of these binaries remains uncertain. Orbital eccentricity is one of the clearest tracers of binary formation channels. Identifying binary eccentricity, however, remains challenging due to the limited availability of gravitational waveforms that include effects of eccentricity. Here, we present observational results for a waveform-independent search sensitive to eccentric black hole coalescences, covering the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. We identified no new high-significance candidates beyond those that were already identified with searches focusing on quasi-circular binaries. We determine the sensitivity of our search to high-mass (total mass M>70 M⊙) binaries covering eccentricities up to 0.3 at 15 Hz orbital frequency, and use this to compare model predictions to search results. Assuming all detections are indeed quasi-circular, for our fiducial population model, we place an upper limit for the merger rate density of high-mass binaries with eccentricities 0<e≤0.3 at 0.33 Gpc−3 yr−1 at 90\% confidence level

Ultralight vector dark matter search using data from the KAGRA O3GK run

    Get PDF
Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for U(1)B−L gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the U(1)B−L gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM

Effects of personal need for structure on cognitive and affective learning: a small scale pilot experimental study

    Get PDF
The primary purpose of this small-scale pilot experimental study was to examine whether or not matching instructional method to personal need for structure (PNS) would enhance learning outcomes. Master of Business Administration students of a large public university in Malaysia were randomly assigned into a lecture-method condition (n?=?11) and a case-method condition (n?=?10). Correlation results indicated that students taught using the lecture method acquired more declarative knowledge than did those taught using the case method. Moderated multiple regression results showed that instructional method interacted with PNS to predict cognitive and affective learning, but the nature of the interaction did not conform to our prediction

Career self-efficacy, organizational embeddedness, and inter-organizational mobility preparedness

Drawing on the literature on contemporary careers, career transitions, and employee turnover, we examined the predictive effects of career self-efficacy and organizational embeddedness on inter-organizational mobility preparedness. We surveyed employees of a medium-sized company and analyzed the data (N = 173) using moderated multiple regression analysis. As expected, organizational embeddedness was negatively related to interorganizational mobility preparedness. In addition, organizational embeddedness moderated the relationship between career self-efficacy and inter-organizational mobility preparedness such that this relationship was stronger among employees who perceived low rather than high organizational embeddedness

Kesan latihan silang budaya terhadap tanggapan kawalan dan sikap silang budaya

    Get PDF
