Space-time properties of the higher twist amplitudes
A consistent and intuitive description of the twist-4 corrections to the
hadron structure functions is presented in a QCD-improved parton model using
time-ordered perturbative theory, where the collinear singularities are
naturally eliminated. We identify the special propagators with the backward
propagators of partons in time order.Comment: 18 Pages, Latex, 8 Ps figures, To appear in Phys. Rev.
Q^2-Evolution of Nucleon's Chiral-Odd Twist-3 Structure Function: h_L(x,Q^2)
We investigate the -evolution of the chiral-odd spin-dependent parton
distribution relevant for the polarized Drell-Yan processes.
The results are obtained in the leading logarithmic order in the framework of
the renormalization group and the standard QCD perturbation theory. We
calculate the anomalous dimension matrix for the twist-3 operators for
in the one-loop order. The operator mixing among the relevant twist-3 operators
including the operators proportional to the QCD equations of motion is treated
properly in a consistent scheme. Implications for future experiments are also
discussed.Comment: HUPD-9419, Latex file, 21 pages, 7 figures available on reques
Twist Four Longitudinal Structure Function in Light-Front QCD
To resolve various outstanding issues associated with the twist four
longitudinal structure function we perform an analysis
based on the BJL expansion for the forward virtual photon-hadron Compton
scattering amplitude and equal (light-front) time current algebra. Using the
Fock space expansion for states and operators, we evaluate the twist four
longitudinal structure function for dressed quark and gluon targets in
perturbation theory. With the help of a new sum rule which we have derived
recently we show that the quadratic and logarithmic divergences generated in
the bare theory are related to corresponding mass shifts in old-fashioned
light-front perturbation theory. We present numerical results for the and
structure functions for the meson in two-dimensional QCD in the one pair
approximation. We discuss the relevance of our results for the problem of the
partitioning of hadron mass in QCD.Comment: 25 pages, 2 ps figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review
Leading and higher twists in the proton polarized structure function at large Bjorken x
A phenomenological parameterization of the proton polarized structure
function has been developed for x > 0.02 using deep inelastic data up to ~ 50
(GeV/c)**2 as well as available experimental results on both photo- and
electro-production of proton resonances. According to the new parameterization
the generalized Drell-Hearn-Gerasimov sum rule is predicted to have a
zero-crossing point at Q**2 = 0.16 +/- 0.04 (GeV/c)**2. Then, low-order
polarized Nachtmann moments have been estimated and their Q**2-behavior has
been investigated in terms of leading and higher twists for Q**2 > 1
(GeV/c)**2. The leading twist has been treated at NLO in the strong coupling
constant and the effects of higher orders of the perturbative series have been
estimated using soft-gluon resummation techniques. In case of the first moment
higher-twist effects are found to be quite small for Q**2 > 1 (GeV/c)**2, and
the singlet axial charge has been determined to be a0[10 (GeV/c)**2] = 0.16 +/-
0.09. In case of higher order moments, which are sensitive to the large-x
region, higher-twist effects are significantly reduced by the introduction of
soft gluon contributions, but they are still relevant at Q**2 ~ few (GeV/c)**2
at variance with the case of the unpolarized transverse structure function of
the proton. Our finding suggests that spin-dependent correlations among partons
may have more impact than spin-independent ones. As a byproduct, it is also
shown that the Bloom-Gilman local duality is strongly violated in the region of
polarized electroproduction of the Delta(1232) resonance.Comment: revised version to appear in Phys. Rev. D; extended discussion on the
