Investigating biological activity spectrum for novel styrylquinazoline analogues

    Get PDF
In this study, series of ring-substituted 2-styrylquinazolin-4(3H)-one and 4-chloro-2-styrylquinazoline derivatives were prepared. The syntheses of the discussed compounds are presented. The compounds were analyzed by RP-HPLC to determine lipophilicity. They were tested for their inhibitory activity on photosynthetic electron transport (PET) in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) chloroplasts. Primary in vitro screening of the synthesized compounds was also performed against four mycobacterial strains and against eight fungal strains. Several compounds showed biological activity comparable with or higher than that of the standard isoniazid. It was found that the electronic properties of the R substituent, and not the total lipophilicity of the compound, were decisive for the photosynthesis-inhibiting activity of tested compounds

Distinct microbial and immune niches of the human colon.

Gastrointestinal microbiota and immune cells interact closely and display regional specificity; however, little is known about how these communities differ with location. Here, we simultaneously assess microbiota and single immune cells across the healthy, adult human colon, with paired characterization of immune cells in the mesenteric lymph nodes, to delineate colonic immune niches at steady state. We describe distinct helper T cell activation and migration profiles along the colon and characterize the transcriptional adaptation trajectory of regulatory T cells between lymphoid tissue and colon. Finally, we show increasing B cell accumulation, clonal expansion and mutational frequency from the cecum to the sigmoid colon and link this to the increasing number of reactive bacterial species

The elemental composition, mineral composition and microstructure of the HaH 286 eucrite found in Lybia in 2000 were studied by analytical electron microscopy. It was established that the mean elemental composition of HaH 286 and atomic and molar ratios: Fe/Mn = 34, Mg/Mg+Fe = 36, Na/Al = 0.066, and Ca/Al = 0.73 are typical of eucrites, and two main meteorite minerals have the mean composition: clinopyroxene En34Fs59Wo7 and plagioclase feldspar An88Ab12. Variations in the composition of pyroxenes and plagioclases are as follows: pyroxene En34-36Fs53-62Wo3-13 and plagioclase: An86-100Ab14-0. Pyroxene is represented by pigeonite and by orthopyroxene. Chromite, ilmenite and silica are minor minerals. The composition, atomic ratios and microstructure indicate that the HaH 286 meteorite is a pyroxene-plagioclase basaltic achondrite, a non-cumulate eucrite with the composition of plagioclase changing between anorthite and bytownite

On Temperature Dependence of Domain Structure in Cobalt

The type-I magnetic contrast in a scanning electron microscope is used to study the domain behaviour on the basal planes of cobalt monocrystals of different thicknesses during a heating cycle. Digital image processing is applied to the original scanning electron microscope images for their restoration, enhancement and analysis. The main reasons for the application of digital image processing are: low level of type-I magnetic contrast, particularly used at the higher temperatures, and the complex character of the magnetic domain structure. The changes in both domain structures and type-I magnetic contrast are due to the strong temperature dependence of magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy for the hcp phase of cobalt, which implies the rotation of magnetic easy axis from the c-axis to the basal plane. The temperature of the magnetic phase transition between an open-flux and a closed-flux domain configuration was found to be dependent on the specimen thickness. The changes in domain structure during the heating cycle were reversible under the condition that the specimen was not carried through the hcp-to-fcc phase transition. Otherwise, they were partially or completely irreversible and were caused by crystal imperfections originating from the transition. The paper shows the great advantage of using digital image processing system for data restoration, enhancement and analysis

Elemental composition, mineral composition and microstructure of Shisr 007 meteorite found in 2001 have been studied by analytical electron microscopy. It was established that the main meteorite minerals: olivines, pyroxenes, troilite, and graphite identified in the sample represent extraterrestrial minerals typical of olivine-pyroxene achondrites. Chemical and mineral composition, and texture confirm previous classification of this achondrite as ureilite.Badano skład pierwiastkowy, skład mineralny i mikrostrukturę meteorytu pustynnego Shisr 007 wykrytego w Omanie w 2001 roku. Do badań wykorzystywano analityczną mikroskopię elektronową.

The development of conventional and unconventional natural gas reservoir management includes continuous monitoring of hydrocarbon exploitation processes and its impact on the reservoir and environment. Raman spectroscopy, which allows for the identification of reservoir fluids (including natural gas) components can be a very promising method for the application of providing a quick, non-invasive, nondestructive analysis. The proposed in this paper measurement methods are focused on the use of:– a laboratory cell (autoclave) with sapphire window mounted on a specially prepared bypass pipeline;– a dedicated Raman probe mounted to the available installed stub pipe;– the construction of a special measurement cell. The article presents the basic technical assumptions for measurements of the composition of natural gas with the use Raman spectroscopy
