New Renormalization Group Equations and the Naturalness Problem
Looking for an observable manifestation of the so-called unnaturalness of
scalar fields we introduce a seemingly new set of differential equations for
connected Green functions. These equations describe the momentum dependence of
the Green functions and are close relatives to the previously known
renormalization group equations. Applying the new equations to the theory of
scalar field with interaction we identify a relation between the
four-point Green function and the propagator which expresses the unnaturalness
of the scalar field. Possible manifestations of the unnaturalness at low
momenta are briefly discussed.Comment: 12 revtex pages; a coefficient has been corrected in eq. (34), four

Calculating loops without loop calculations: NLO computation of pentaquark correlators
We compute next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD corrections to the
correlators of interpolating pentaquark currents. We employ modular techniques
in configuration space which saves us from the onus of having to do loop
calculations. The modular technique is explained in some detail. We present
explicit NLO results for several interpolating pentaquark currents that have
been written down in the literature. Our modular approach is easily adapted to
the case of NLO corrections to multiquark correlators with an arbitrary number
of quarks/antiquarks.Comment: 23 pages, 1 figure, published version. arXiv admin note: text overlap

Next-to-Leading Order perturbative QCD corrections to baryon correlators in matter
We compute the next-to-leading order perturbative QCD corrections to the
correlators of nucleon interpolating currents in relativistic nuclear matter.
The main new result is the calculation of the O(alpha_s) perturbative
corrections to the coefficient functions of the vector quark condensate in
matter. This condensate appears in matter due to the violation of Lorentz
invariance. The NLO perturbative QCD corrections turn out to be large which
implies that the NLO corrections must be included in a sum rule analysis of the
properties of both bound nucleons and relativistic nuclear matter.Comment: 19 pages in LaTeX, including 5 Postscript figure
B0 - anti-B0 mixing beyond factorization
We present a calculation of the B0 - anti-B0 mixing matrix element in the
framework of QCD sum rules for three-point functions. We compute alpha_s
corrections to a three-point function at the three-loop level in QCD
perturbation theory, which allows one to extract the matrix element with
next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy. This calculation is imperative for a
consistent evaluation of experimentally-measured mixing parameters since the
coefficient functions of the effective Hamiltonian for B0 - anti-B0 mixing are
known at NLO. We find that radiative corrections violate factorization at NLO;
this violation is under full control and amounts to 10%.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, LaTeX2
Heavy mass expansion, light-by-light scattering and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon
Contributions from light-by-light scattering to (g_\mu-2)/2, the anomalous
magnetic moment of the muon, are mediated by the exchange of charged fermions
or scalar bosons. Assuming large masses M for the virtual particles and
employing the technique of large mass expansion, analytical results are
obtained for virtual fermions and scalars in the form of a series in (m_\mu
/M)^2. This series is well convergent even for the case M=m_\mu. For virtual
fermions, the expansion confirms published analytical formulae. For virtual
scalars, the result can be used to evaluate the contribution from charged
pions. In this case our result confirms already available numerical
evaluations, however, it is significantly more precise.Comment: revtex4, eps figure
Plasmon channels in the electronic relaxation of diamond under high-order harmonics femtosecond irradiation
We used high order harmonics of a femtosecond titanium-doped sapphire system
(pulse duration 25 fs) to realise Ultraviolet Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS)
measurements on diamond. The UPS spectra were measured for harmonics in the
range 13 to 27. We also made ab initio calculations of the electronic lifetime
of conduction electrons in the energy range produced in the UPS experiment.
Such calculations show that the lifetime suddenly diminishes when the
conduction electron energy reaches the plasmon energy, whereas the UPS spectra
show evidence in this range of a strong relaxation mechanism with an increased
production of low energy secondary electrons. We propose that in this case the
electronic relaxation proceeds in two steps : excitation of a plasmon by the
high energy electron, the latter decaying into individual electron-hole pairs,
as in the case of metals. This process is observed for the first time in an
insulator and, on account of its high efficiency, should be introduced in the
models of laser breakdown under high intensity
Two-loop corrections to the correlator of tensor currents in gluodynamics
Results of evaluating the leading order corrections to the
correlator of tensor currents in pure gluodynamics are presented. These
corrections to the parton result for the correlator are not large numerically
that allows one to use perturbation theory for the analysis of the resonance
spectrum within the sum rules method.Comment: 10 pages, latex, no figure
Strong coupling constant from decay within renormalization scheme invariant treatment
We extract a numerical value for the strong coupling constant \alpha_s from
the \tau-lepton decay rate into nonstrange particles. A new feature of our
procedure is the explicit use of renormalization scheme invariance in
analytical form in order to perform the actual analysis in a particular
renormalization scheme. For the reference coupling constant in the
\MSsch-scheme we obtain \alpha_s(M_\tau)= 0.3184 \pm 0.0060_{exp} which
corresponds to \al_s(M_Z)= 0.1184 \pm 0.0007_{exp} \pm 0.0006_{hq mass}. This
new numerical value is smaller than the standard value from -data quoted
in the literature and is closer to \al_s(M_Z)-values obtained from high energy
experiments.Comment: 8 page
Low-energy gluon contributions to the vacuum polarization of heavy quarks
We calculate a correction to the electromagnetic current induced by a heavy
quark loop. The contribution of this correction to the vacuum polarization
function appears at the O(alpha_s^3) order of perturbation theory and has a
qualitatively new feature -- its absorptive part starts at zero energy in
contrast to other contributions where the absorptive parts start at the
two-particle threshold. Our result imposes a constraint on the order n of the
moments used in the heavy-quark sum rules, n<4.Comment: 8 pages in LaTeX, 1 PostScript figure included in the tex
