The fabric of contradictions and the welft of equivalences : gender, art and society in the essayistic production of Gilda de Mello e Souza

Procurando estabelecer nexos de sentido entre experiência feminina e a produção de ideias, a dissertação traça um panorama geral do quadro de mudança social no Brasil do início do século XX, focalizando o aumento da participação de mulheres no mundo intelectual e no espaço público. A experiência pessoal e profissional da ensaísta no espaço acadêmico, preponderantemente masculino, torna-se uma chave de inflexão analítica para compreender aspectos fundamentais da produção de suas ideias. Em um segundo momento, investiga-se como as relações e os diálogos por ela estabelecidos contribuem para a formulação de seus argumentos sobre a experiência artística brasileira, contextualizando sua inserção no quadro de ideias de sua geração e sua ambiência no pensamento brasileiro. Tendo em vista este horizonte de pesquisa, a análise se propõe a investigar o modo como Gilda opera a articulação entre gênero, arte e sociedadeAbstract: The guiding thread of this research is the study of the trajectory and essayistic production of Gilda de Mello e Souza (1919-2005). Attempting to establish connections between the female experience and the production of ideas, the dissertation draws a general framework of the social changes in Brazil in the beginning of the 20th century, focusing on the increase of women¿s participation on the intellectual environment and public space. The personal and professional experience of the essayist in the male-dominated academic space become an analytic key that unlocks fundamental aspects of the development of her ideas. In a second moment, we investigate how the relations and dialogues established by Gilda contribute to the constitution of her arguments concerning the Brazilian artistic experience, contextualizing her place in her generation¿s frame of ideas and, in a wider sense, where she stands in the scenario of Brazilian social thought.
