Insults and face work in the Bible
Insults play a key role in social interaction in the agonistic culture of the Middle East. This
article constructs a social scientific model of social interaction regarding face work and insults
and then filters the Gospel of Matthew through that model to highlight the prevalence of insult
in the biblical world.http://www.hts.org.zahb201
The wisdom of Ben Sira in MENA cultural context : a cultural topical index
The biblical Books of Proverbs and Ben Sira (Sirach; Ecclesiasticus) yield no narrative continuity
or logical outline. They are simply collections. The best way to interpret these books is with the
aid of a topical index. Most topical indexes are based on English (or another language)
translation. This article proposes a tentative topical index reflecting Middle East North African
culture and its values. It will serve as the outline for a full length commentary already in
process.Dr J.J. Pilch, John Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, died on Friday 22 July 2016.Prof. Dr John Pilch

Clinical Pain Scale Compendium
Title: Clinical Pain Scale Compendium
Authors: James Aiken, SPT1, Tiffany Crow, SPT1, Nicholas Pilch, SPT1
Affiliation(s): 1. Physical Therapy Program, University of Puget Sound
Theory:
Pain is one of the pivotal aspects of a healthcare examination. Clinicians cannot measure pain objectively, and thus, we can only obtain a subjective report of the patient’s experience. However, the human experience of pain can be measured beyond merely its intensity. The purpose of this compendium is to present a range of pain aspects; the who, what, where, when, and how much of pain measurement. This is accomplished with the following domains: affective, beliefs, intensity, sensory quality, location, temporal, impact on activities of daily living, and population. The aim of this compendium is to present a model of various pain dimensions and to expand the number of tools available to measure pain, as pain can mean different things. It is novel in its breadth of coverage of pain scales and comprehensive summarization for ease of use. With an improved capacity of pain measurement tools available, clinicians can better correlate care with more accurate pain assessments to meet a patient’s unique needs. In conclusion, we have compiled these measures to provide additional pain evaluation tools for physical therapists and other medical professionals in order to improve patient care
Salt for the earthen oven revisited
The symbolic interpretation of the salt sayings in the New Testament (Mt 5:13; Mk 9:42–50;
Lk 12:49–53; 14:34–35) is best based on the long-standing cultural practice of using salt as a
catalytic agent to burn dung, the common fuel for the typical earthen oven used by peasants
even to this day. Seasoning and preservation are culturally inappropriate.http://www.hts.org.z
