A Dynamic Simulation Model for a Heat Exchanger Malfunction Monitoring

Get PDF
Modelling and simulation is presented for a finned cross-flow heat exchanger with the aim to heat cold air to be fed to air conditioning batteries for marine purposes. The model employed in this paper is finalized to simulate the dynamic behavior of air and water temperatures fed to the air conditioning batteries operating in cold environments, in order to predict possible troubles owing to the change in input parameters, such as unwanted flow rate variations due to system malfunctions. In the investigated model, heat balance equations are presented and discretized by Laplace transform, which has the advantage to easily account for the different structures of heaters used for the purpose of validation. The model was implemented in the Matlab-Simulink environment for its high capacity of dealing with dynamic systems. The results of the model are satisfactory, as the dynamic behavior of the air stream temperature is correctly reproduced, as compared to experimental data, providing a suitable parameter for malfunctions prediction

A short review of the SDKs and wearable devices to be used for AR application for industrial working environment

Get PDF
During the last two decades, and especially the last few years, augmented reality helps workers manage safety risks on site and prevent injuries and increase the efficiency of safety. This review on the presently existing SDKs and their features is aimed at finding the most efficient AR SDK that would be suitable and would correspond to the purpose of the AR application for industrial working environment in terms of safety. The summarized information of the world’s most widely used platforms for AR development, with support for leading phones, tablets and eyewear, SDKs presently available on the market is intended to help developers to create their AR application as well as to which parameters one should pay attention to, when building augmented reality applications for industrial use

Investigation about use of drone in a patrol purpose and applicability of this surveillance particularly to existing legislation

Get PDF
This article represents an effort to investigate the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or ‘drone’ as patrolum service, bringing together its diverse forms, current and projected uses and legal challenges it raises, with a view to its large-scale capabilities for searching and identifying people. The relatively tight focus of contemporary recognition systems allows the use of this technology for searching of individuals. Now the degree of surveillance coverage in time and space that the UAV allows is having important effects, drones are increasingly being used in vast array of civilian and governmental situations. Application of drone’s usage in public places increases the chance that individuals will come under scrutiny from faraway aircraft without knowing it; there is apprehension in the use of domestic drones due to several safety and privacy concerns. After the introduction, the paper describes the overall features of propagation of drone usage from military to civil purposes; then, in section 3 description of the airship solution is carried out. In the next section, legislative problems are determined for UAVs and the airship basing civilian airspace regulation. Finally, the conclusions of the study are drawn

Simulation for risk assessment in LPG storage and distribution plant

No full text
This paper analyses the domino effects of LPG storage vessel rupture focusing on the downstream impacts on other plant components. For the purposes of the analysis a stochastic, discrete event simulation model was developed to account both for the heat radiation caused by BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion) and for the impact of vessel fragments projected in the surrounding environment. An example analysis is proposed with respect to an actual plant layout, which provides the context for scenario-based testing of the model

Analysis through Simulation of Unstable Variables based on Chaos Theory: Warehouse Management in a Port Terminal

Integrated AI techniques for industrial risk assessment

No full text
This paper illustrates and compares different AI-based modeling approaches for systematic risk assessment in complex industrial facilities. The computer-based tools presented in the paper are specifically designed to support and expedite the implementation of design for safety practices in industrial plant component specification and layout definition. An example analysis is proposed in the paper for the purposes of illustrating the use of the tools and of assessing their performance during development and use
