    Proceeding into Iraq

...So, I was in Iraq from October 2004 until May 2005 and actually had the privilege of having Mara come over and visit me in Turkey and getting engaged in the biblical city of Ephesus. And then we got married in July of last year. So, I want to also share with some of you people who have husbands, boyfriends, fiancé’s, family members, especially you girls and women, come and talk to Mara because she knows a little bit more about what you\u27re going through than even I do, because I was in Iraq. I was in Iraq as a missionary, as a civilian, not in the service

Irregular Satellites of the Planets: Products of Capture in the Early Solar System

All four giant planets in the Solar system possess irregular satellites, characterized by large, highly eccentric and/or inclined orbits that are distinct from the nearly circular, uninclined orbits of the regular satellites. This difference can be traced directly to different modes of formation. Whereas the regular satellites grew by accretion within circumplanetary disks the irregular satellites were captured from initially heliocentric orbits at an early epoch. Recently, powerful survey observations have greatly increased the number of known irregular satellites, permitting a fresh look at the group properties of these objects and motivating a re-examination of the mechanisms of capture. None of the suggested mechanisms, including gas-drag, pull-down, and three-body capture, convincingly fit the group characteristics of the irregular satellites. The sources of the satellites also remain unidentified.Comment: 51 pages, 17 figures, 5 tables, to appear in ARAA 200

ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF FISHERIES EXCLUSION ZONES: A SICILIAN CASE STUDY

Spatial approaches to fisheries management in the form of total or partial exclusion zones have attracted much interest in recent years, though relatively little is known in practice about how such measures impact fishermen or other groups of stakeholders. The present paper hopes to shed light on this issue by reporting the results of a recently completed EU project investigating the effects of a trawl ban introduced in the Gulf of Castellammare, NW Sicily, in 1990. The results indicate that the prohibition on trawling led to stock recovery and improved financial returns for the artisanal fishermen who have been permitted to operate within the restricted area. There is evidence, however, that the displacement of trawlers to the outer periphery of the exclusion zone has impacted adversely on artisanal operators located immediately outside the trawl ban area.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

Border-busting microenterprises: handshakes and eye contact, not headshakes and binding contracts, the keys to stellar growth

Trust-based relationships impact foreign market success of NZ Micro-enterprises. Firms capable of building trust-based relationships as a springboard to foreign market entry and growth perform better than those reliant upon the protective mechanisms of a transactional cost approach. The implications of such findings are discussed
