    Autenticitetsstrategier i Triers triologier - om at skabe affekt via effekt

    I denne artikel anskueliggøres, hvorledes forskellige filmiske strategier kan medvirke til at formidle autenticitetsfølelser til tilskueren. Artiklen diskuterer desuden ud fra eksempler, hvorledes filmisk autenticitet kan indkredses ved hjælp af Jay David Bolter og Richard Grusins begreber ’immediacy og ’hypermediacy’. Der argumenteres for, at der eksempelvis i film af Lars von Trier eksisterer et langt mere komplekst forhold mellem disse to begreber, end det anskues i Bolter og Grusins bog, Remediation. Men at begreberne fra denne bog kan medvirke til at kvalificere diskussionen om og forskning i autenticitet, bl.a. i nye film. Autenticitet, eller immediacy, optræder i Triers værker side om side og synes nærmest at betinge hinanden. Især filmen Idioterne (1999) analyseres i nærværende artikel som en film, der rummer en kompleks og særdeles iscenesat form for autenticitet. I denne film er bl.a. den radikale brug af filmiske virkemidler med til at skabe autenticitet. Artiklen medtænker endvidere, at ’de såkaldte naturlige historier’ ligeledes er strategier, der fremmaner følelsen af virkelighed både i Idioterne og andre nyere danske film

    A Game with Aesthetics and Ethics: On the Film The Five Obstructions:In this article my approach is to analyse what kind of ethics is implied in the experimental documentary film The Five Obstructions (2003) made by the Danish directors Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth. What are the consequences for Leth when Trier tries to push him into making a miserable and ugly film through the help of certain rules that Leth would never have invented himself? What are the consequences for the citizens when Leth chooses to create a scene in the Red Light District in Mumbai? And how is the audience supposed to respond to this unusual film, in which Leth is creating five new interpretations of the short fiction film The Perfect Human Being (1967)? My answers to these questions will be that the life of the prostitutes in the Red Light District will carry on as usual after Leth has left this area. For Leth the constraints given to him by Trier have worked as a kind of ‘scaffolding’ (Wood, Bruner and Ross, 1976) and have inspired him to innovate in his own filmmaking. Concerning the audience of the film, they will be forced to judge for themselves whether they agree with the moral that Trier and Leth use in the film and what kind of ‘ethos’ this produces. Leth is going through an interesting development in The Five Obstructions, but this is certainly not the direction that Trier initially hoped he would take. The short films Leth creates – as demonstrated in the film as a whole – are primarily influenced not by the ethical approach from Trier, but by the scaffolding he offers Leth

    A Method Off the Beaten Track: Refining Creative Writing Process through Practice-led Research

    How can you improve your writing processes and your creative projects by examining your own working conditions? In this article, we address this question and the possibilities and challenges of the method called ‘practice-led research’, which is a method off the beaten track in media production studies. We examine assignments by students from the educational program of ‘Screenplay Development’ at the University of Southern Den-mark. Our purpose is to clarify how the students have used practice-led research to enhance their screenwriting, and whether this method has contributed to their talent development. The theoretical framework in the article is constituted by Donald Schön’s (2013) practice epistemology. As our analytical lens we use Robin Nelson’s (2013) modes of thinking, as well as talent development theories by Anders Ericsson (Ericsson & Pool, 2016) and Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi (1996). Based on our findings, we suggest how to get started you’re your creative writing and improve your writing processes

    At skabe sociale relationer ud fra Badehotellet

    In this article we study fan culture and activities of viewers in relation to one of the most popular, contemporary Danish tv series: Badehotellet. More specifically, we reflect upon fan practices in a particular digital Facebook group. This is an underdeveloped research field in Danish media studies. Based on reception analysis and observations of Facebook followers’ digital communication, we highlight why and how so many followers are motivated to interact with a fictional universe of a series and how this relates to a participatory culture. The activities in the Facebook group illustrate how followers are able to express and share their enthusiasm towards the story world. This leads us to reflect on the significant ways in which a fan group on Facebook facilitates a sense of belonging to a ‘club’, due to pertinent social functions
