A Stochastic Decoder for Neural Machine Translation
The process of translation is ambiguous, in that there are typically many
valid trans- lations for a given sentence. This gives rise to significant
variation in parallel cor- pora, however, most current models of machine
translation do not account for this variation, instead treating the prob- lem
as a deterministic process. To this end, we present a deep generative model of
machine translation which incorporates a chain of latent variables, in order to
ac- count for local lexical and syntactic varia- tion in parallel corpora. We
provide an in- depth analysis of the pitfalls encountered in variational
inference for training deep generative models. Experiments on sev- eral
different language pairs demonstrate that the model consistently improves over

TFE and Spt4/5 open and close the RNA polymerase clamp during the transcription cycle
Transcription is an intrinsically dynamic process and requires the coordinated interplay of RNA polymerases (RNAPs) with nucleic acids and transcription factors. Classical structural biology techniques have revealed detailed snapshots of a subset of conformational states of the RNAP as they exist in crystals. A detailed view of the conformational space sampled by the RNAP and the molecular mechanisms of the basal transcription factors E (TFE) and Spt4/5 through conformational constraints has remained elusive. We monitored the conformational changes of the flexible clamp of the RNAP by combining a fluorescently labeled recombinant 12-subunit RNAP system with single-molecule FRET measurements. We measured and compared the distances across the DNA binding channel of the archaeal RNAP. Our results show that the transition of the closed to the open initiation complex, which occurs concomitant with DNA melting, is coordinated with an opening of the RNAP clamp that is stimulated by TFE. We show that the clamp in elongation complexes is modulated by the nontemplate strand and by the processivity factor Spt4/5, both of which stimulate transcription processivity. Taken together, our results reveal an intricate network of interactions within transcription complexes between RNAP, transcription factors, and nucleic acids that allosterically modulate the RNAP during the transcription cycle
Caregiver Integration During Discharge Planning for Older Adults to Reduce Resource Use: A Metaanalysis

Of 10,715 abstracts identified, 15 studies met the inclusion criteria. Eleven studies provided sufficient detail to calculate readmission rates for treatment and control participants. Discharge planning interventions with caregiver integration were associated with a 25% fewer readmissions at 90 days (relative risk (RR) = 0.75, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.62–0.91) and 24% fewer readmissions at 180 days (RR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.64–0.90). The majority of studies reported statistically significant shorter time to readmission, shorter rehospitalization, and lower costs of postdischarge care among discharge planning interventions with caregiver integration. For older adults discharged to a community setting, the integration of caregivers into the discharge planning process reduces the risk of hospital readmission

Salts of HCN-Cyanide Aggregates : [CN(HCN)2]− and [CN(HCN)3]−
Although pure hydrogen cyanide can spontaneously polymerize or even explode, when initiated by small amounts of bases (e.g. CN−), the reaction of liquid HCN with [WCC]CN (WCC=weakly coordinating cation=Ph4P, Ph3PNPPh3=PNP) was investigated. Depending on the cation, it was possible to extract salts containing the formal dihydrogen tricyanide [CN(HCN)2]− and trihydrogen tetracyanide ions [CN(HCN)3]− from liquid HCN when a fast crystallization was carried out at low temperatures. X-ray structure elucidation revealed hydrogen-bridged linear [CN(HCN)2]− and Y-shaped [CN(HCN)3]− molecular ions in the crystal. Both anions can be considered members of highly labile cyanide-HCN solvates of the type [CN(HCN)n]− (n=1, 2, 3 …) as well as formal polypseudohalide ions. © 2020 The Authors. Coming home upset: Gender, marital satisfaction and the daily spillover of workday experience into couple interactions
This study explored how daily changes in workday pace and end-of-the-workday mood were related to nightly variations in withdrawn and angry marital behavior. For 3 days, 82 husbands and wives from 42 couples completed questionnaires at the end of the workday and at bedtime. More negatively arousing workdays were linked with angrier marital behavior for women and less angry and more withdrawn behavior for men. Daily changes in workday pace predicted fluctuations in women\u27s, but not men\u27s, marital behavior. Several of these workday-marital behavior connections varied by level of marital satisfaction. In contrast to the gender differences in responses to workday stress, no differences were found in typical marital behaviors. These findings suggest that gender differences are enhanced under stress
