The use of reproductive healthcare at commune health stations in a changing health system in Vietnam

    Get PDF
Background: With health sector reform in Vietnam moving towards greater pluralism, commune health stations (CHSs) have been subject to growing competition from private health services and increasing numbers of patients bypassing CHSs for higher-level health facilities. This study describes the pattern of reproductive health (RH) and family planning (FP) service utilization among women at CHSs and other health facilities, and explores socio demographic determinants of RH service utilization at the CHS level

Bi-functional saltwater-based structure as UHF antenna and EMI shielding window

    No full text
Abstract This paper presents a transparent saltwater in glass structure working simultaneously as a UHF antenna and EMI shielding window. The proposed structure has high transparency (> 91%), which is achieved through the use of salt water as a conductive medium held between two clear glass layers, allowing its use as an optical window. On one hand, the saltwater in the glass structure functions as an EMI shielding window, with a shielding effectiveness above 20 dB. On the other hand, the proposed structure works as a transparent UHF antenna by adding only a feeding port

Pre-hospital delay in Vietnamese patients hospitalized with a first acute myocardial infarction: A short report [version 3; referees: 2 approved, 1 not approved]

Background: Administration of coronary reperfusion therapy to patients with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) within the proper timeframe is essential in avoiding clinical complications and death. However, the extent of pre-hospital delay is unexplored in Vietnam. This report aims to describe the duration of pre-hospital delay of Hanoi residents hospitalized with a first AMI at the Vietnam National Heart Institute .   Methods: A total of 103 Hanoi residents hospitalized at the largest tertiary care medical center in the city for first AMI, who have information on  prehospital delay was included in this report. Results: One third of the study sample was women and mean age was 66 years. The mean and median pre-hospital delay duration were 14.9 hours and 4.8 hours, respectively. The proportion of patients who delayed <6 , 6-<12, and ≥ 12 hours were 45%, 13%, and 42%, respectively. Conclusions: Our data shows that a prolonged pre-hospital delay is often observed in patients with a first AMI in Vietnam. In order to confirm these preliminary descriptive findings, a full-scale investigation of all Hanoi residents hospitalized with first AMI is needed. Increasing public awareness about AMI treatment is vital in encouraging patients to seek medical care timely after experiencing AMI symptoms such that received treatment is most effective

Modelling localised failure in porous reservoir rocks using a continuum model with an embedded localisation band

    No full text
The localised failure of highly porous rocks usually involves the size-dependent responses governed by the presence of planar bands in the form of compaction bands under high confinements. Deformations inside these bands induced by grain crushing are much higher than the surrounding host rock, making the rock structure inhomogeneous. This post-localisation mechanism is not able to be correctly captured by classical constitutive models for rocks due to the assumption of homogeneous deformation. The inhomogeneous behaviour can be addressed by our mechanism-based constitutive model in this paper, accounting for properties of the mesoscale localisation bands. In this model, the inclination and thickness of compaction bands are taken into account in kinematic enrichments to connect elastic responses outside and inelastic responses based on breakage mechanics theory inside them. The potential of the proposed approach is presented through several numerical examples, using triaxial tests on rocks.</p

Spatial Analysis of Drug-Susceptible and Multidrug-Resistant Cases of Tuberculosis, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, 2020–2023

    No full text
We characterized the spatial distribution of drug-susceptible (DS) and multidrug-resistant (MDR) tuberculosis (TB) cases in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, a major metropolis in southeastern Asia, and explored demographic and socioeconomic factors associated with local TB burden. Hot spots of DS and MDR TB incidence were observed in the central parts of Ho Chi Minh City, and substantial heterogeneity was observed across wards. Positive spatial autocorrelation was observed for both DS TB and MDR TB. Ward-level TB incidence was associated with HIV prevalence and the male proportion of the population. No ward-level demographic and socioeconomic indicators were associated with MDR TB case count relative to total TB case count. Our findings might inform spatially targeted TB control strategies and provide insights for generating hypotheses about the nature of the relationship between DS and MDR TB in Ho Chi Minh City and the wider southeastern region of Asia
