Values play a vital role in any teacher-training program. The value practices, used by teacher educators affect students’ understanding and practicing of values. This study aimed to explore the value related practices of teacher educators and to rank the value practices of education programs at a public sector university. Survey method was used for the study and the population comprised prospective teachers of education program at the university.100 prospective teachers were selected through simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by using mean. It was found that there were several value related practices used by teacher educators such as realness, prizing, empathic understanding, fully functioning person, humility, lovingness, courage – overcoming one’s own fears, tolerance, decisiveness, living the tension between patience and impatience and the joy of living. With reference to ranking, realness stood above all other values. It is recommended that there may be more focus on different value related practices and that these are introduced in contents of teacher education program

Assessment is an integral component of learning and teaching. The main purpose of this study was to examine the current assessment practices of teachers and as well as examination system in the Beaconhouse school system. Six schools of Beacon house system of Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad cities and their male and female teachers were the population of the study. Fifty teachers were selected as a sample on convenient basis. Data were collected through developing a questionnaire to ask teachers report on their assessment practices. It contained 30 items, each at the 5 point Likert type scale ranging from ‘always’ to ‘never’. The means and standard deviations were calculated for each item to find out the assessment practices being used in Beacon house Schools. The findings of the study revealed that Beacon house school teachers are informed about their use of assessment practices to examine learners’ reading performance. The teachers always inform results to the students but keep confidential from the irrelevant- stakeholders. They do not interpret percentile bands to students and parents and they do not consider students’ participation behavior or attitude in the promotion of next class. ABSTRACT Providing feedback is an ethical and professional responsibility of the teacher. Students seldom make good use of the feedback and they often repeat the same mistakes in future writing assignments. This paper highlights how students can be encouraged to improve their written work by using "Self Correction" tool proposed by McDonough and Shaw (2003

Background: Occupational health is a neglected public health issue among healthcare workers in developing countries and they may expose them to various forms of hazards. Objectives: The study aims at exploring the forms of occupational health hazards among nurses in a tertiary care hospital, Lahore Methods: Total 151 staff nurses were enrolled for cross-sectional descriptive study to explore the occupational health hazard.  This study was conducted at Lahore General Hospital, Lahore for the duration of 02, 2021, to January 01, 2022. Only charge nurses working in medical and surgical units on permanent basis having experience more than six months were included. Results: The findings of this study showed that the mean age of the nurse was 25.87 ± 3.138 years (age range 21-32 year), the female nurse was  127(84.1%)while 24(15.9%) were male nurse. The participants faced occupational health hazards 51.8%, biological hazards73.5%, and physical hazards 59.2% and mechanical and psychology Hazards among Nurse 48.8% and 52.0% respectively. Conclusion:Occupational risks (biological hazards) are very common among the nurses in Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. To protect patients and medical staff, hospitals should implement preventative, infection control, and patient safety initiatives. 3D-QSPR Method of Computational Technique Applied on Red Reactive Dyes by Using CoMFA Strategy

    Get PDF
Cellulose fiber is a tremendous natural resource that has broad application in various productions including the textile industry. The dyes, which are commonly used for cellulose printing, are “reactive dyes” because of their high wet fastness and brilliant colors. The interaction of various dyes with the cellulose fiber depends upon the physiochemical properties that are governed by specific features of the dye molecule. The binding pattern of the reactive dye with cellulose fiber is called the ligand-receptor concept. In the current study, the three dimensional quantitative structure property relationship (3D-QSPR) technique was applied to understand the red reactive dyes interactions with the cellulose by the Comparative Molecular Field Analysis (CoMFA) method. This method was successfully utilized to predict a reliable model. The predicted model gives satisfactory statistical results and in the light of these, it was further analyzed. Additionally, the graphical outcomes (contour maps) help us to understand the modification pattern and to correlate the structural changes with respect to the absorptivity. Furthermore, the final selected model has potential to assist in understanding the charachteristics of the external test set. The study could be helpful to design new reactive dyes with better affinity and selectivity for the cellulose fiber

Education in general and Education for All (EFA) in particular, is one of the top priorities of government of Pakistan. After the Devolution plan, Punjab Government took many initiatives for enhancing students’ enrolment, and retention, at Primary level. This study focused on analyzing the effects of Punjab government’s educational initiatives (PGEIs) on students’ enrolment, retention, and achievement at primary level. The study was a cross-sectional survey design in nature. All the primary school teachers of district Mianwali were taken as population and sample of the study was taken in two stages, at first stage 21(40% proportional) out of 54 clusters from all three tehsils (Mianwali, Piplan and Isa Khal) were taken as sample of the study by using stratified cluster random sampling technique. At the second stage, 40 teachers (from each cluster) were selected as sample of the study by using convenient sampling technique. Validation of the instrument was carried out through expert opinions and pilot study. The internal consistency of instrument was found by using Cronbach Alpha, which was 0.804.The questionnaires were administered to 840 teachers and the response rate was 94% (392 male & 394 female teachers). The statistics such as percentage, mean scores, and standard deviation were used to analyze data. The findings of the study revealed that majority of PGEIs have positive and significant effects on pupils’ enrolment, retention, and achievement at primary level. It was recommended that effort of DSD for quality education may be continued and improved. Medium of curriculum may be optional. The research may also be conducted by using qualitative technique, so that some valuable subjective findings can be gained about the research topi

Objective: To analyse the efficacy of preoperative intravenous injection of 120mg of methylprednisolone acetate steroid on the formation of seroma after modified radical mastectomy in breast cancer patients. Method: The case-control study was conducted at Ward 3, Surgical Unit 1, Department of General Surgery, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, from November 2020 to April 2021, and comprised female patients with biopsy-proven carcinoma of breast who were scheduled for elective definitive breast cancer surgery. The subjects were randomised into treatment group A and control group B. Group A was given a single dose of intravenous injection methylprednisolone acetate 120mg half-an-hour before surgery, while group B underwent similar surgery without the said injection. Seroma was graded using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v3.0. The groups were compared for age, total drainage, duration of drainage, seroma grading and wound status. Data was analysed using SPSS 25. Results: Of the 60 patients, there were 30(50%) in each of the two groups. The age difference between groups was non-significant (p=0.346). There was a significant difference in the mean total drainage volume and mean duration of drainage between the groups (p=0.001). Seroma formation, seroma grading and wound status were not significantly different between the groups (p>0.05). The efficacy in treatment was high in group A (odds ratio: 2.78; 95% confidence interval: 0.65-13.94). Conclusion: A single preoperative dose of Injection methylprednisolone acetate was effective in terms of post-mastectomy outcomes. Key Words: Modified radical mastectomy, Methylprednisolone, Formation of seroma
